***Make sure to watch the video of us diving!!!*** Bangkok (again) The smiles on our faces could not have been bigger when we landed on the Bangkok tarmac, knowing we were only about an hour away from some spicy Pad Thai street food, LOTS of amazing shopping, and cheap rooms. As we arrived by Khao San Rd, it was an immediate sigh of relief for us, accompanied by an unfamiliar feeling of…wait, we actually know where we’re going without exploring for a whole day. After dropping our things off and checking in at Merry V, the first thing on our agenda was heading to the corner for $1 Pad Thai and a fruit shake. Our first FULL day however, would be spent going back to our favorite market to date…the Chatuchuk Market with enough stalls wear ... read more

Waiting for the clouds to clear in Sapa Needless to say, we were more than ready to get out of Hanoi. We killed some time walking around until it was time to get to the travel agency we booked with. We got there a little early, waited for a bit, and then were told that we weren’t getting picked up for another hour instead. We both looked at each other with that same look, “Here we go again.” Ok, let’s stay positive. We were more than over walking around the city at this point, so we grabbed a couple Tiger beers and sat down for a while instead. As we were sitting, we noticed a couple get off of a motorbike. The girl was dressed up with her high heels and hair done as they both ... read more

Cat Ba Island and Hanoi We had a little bit of time to chill out at the bus station before our bus arrived, so we grabbed our favorite, well second favorite, drink in Vietnam…red bull! This is no ordinary red bull either mind you. We’ve decided that they have to put some kind of speed in these things because it’s better than espresso and lasts twice as long. When the bus pulled up, one of the guys at the bus station let us know right away and we all piled in. The ride was fairly easy compared to some of the others we’ve had, other than the fact that our driver was on the horn THE..ENTIRE…TIME. You’d think the guy was deaf and couldn’t hear it going off. Everyone in Vietnam is on the horn at ... read more

Ninh Binh and our first taste of the insanity that is Hanoi Ninh Binh So, we tried our luck with a 3rd sleeping bus and booked through Sinh Café (the real one), the same place we booked the nice sitting bus through. The bus left right on time, we had 2 drivers who were taking turns instead of one coked out one, and we even got the seats we were assigned to sit in! Sweet! Almost every other person on our bus was headed to Hanoi and not stopping in Ninh Binh, so we have to say we were a little worried that they might drive right through the town and just take us straight there instead. Just to be safe, we set the alarm at 5 am to make sure we were awake well before ... read more

One hell of a week...NhaTrang, Hoi An and Hue NHA TRANG After killing some time at a coffee shop so we could get wifi and having dinner, we were boarding our overnight bus to Nha Trang. All of the pictures we had seen of this city looked so beautiful, so we were quite excited to get there…not to mention we’d be at the beach again! As we got onto our bus, we were instructed to take off our sandals and put them in the plastic bag provided, obviously to keep the bus as clean as possible. We were in the very back of the bus on the top row, and Nate was very grateful for the seat he had on this ride. Most buses have 3 rows, top and bottom, of lying down seats with 5 ... read more

Saigon AKA Ho Chi Minh...Same Same After having such a “GREAT” time with trying to use the public transportation getting to Vinh Long, we decided to just book a ticket through our guesthouse to get to Ho Chi Minh City. We have to admit, sometimes, it’s just not worth the aggravation and hassle to try doing things the extra cheap way as we were taken right to the bus we needed to get on and had an easy ride to the city. The only thing we weren’t planning on, was being dropped off at the end of the ride at a bus station far from where we wanted to be (far enough to not even be on our map). As we got off the bus, it was the usual bombardment of guys with motorbikes trying to ... read more

Checking out the River of Nine Dragons...the Mekong Delta We definitely had a lot of great memories from Cambodia, but we were looking forward to getting into the next country on our list, Vietnam. We were up bright and early in the morning to get picked up by a minivan which would take us to our bus. When we arrived in Neak Loung, we got off the bus and onto the boat that would take us the rest of the way to Chau Doc. This was no normal boat dock either, more like walking through someone’s house to get to a small board that was the “dock.” As we were riding on the boat, we started talking to a few American guys who were on vacation after having just graduated from medical school. They had been ... read more

Cambodia wrap up...Kep, Kampot and one last time in Phnom Penh We have to admit, it was REALLY hard to peel ourselves away from Sihanoukville, mostly because of our love for the beach. The thing is, we’d feel like we were missing out on seeing other parts of the country if we decided to stay any longer, so we made our way to Kampot. We booked a bus ticket right next door to Sea Horse, said our goodbyes and gave our gratitude to the family before getting picked up right in front of our guesthouse. It was yet another painless bus ride to reach our destination, and we ended up being dropped off at Kampot guesthouse (obviously where they make commission if you stay there). We had done a little research and wanted to stay at ... read more

Thanks for the memories Snooky, we'll miss you! After not being at the beach for better than 3 months, we were more than excited to get to Sihanoukville (aka Snooky) for some relaxing time in the sun. Not to mention, we couldn’t think of a better place to take Sarah since she was coming from some cold, nasty Midwest weather. Before we left, we just had to get one last breakfast at Mama’s, and of course, she delivered. We hopped on the bus early in the morning, and the 3 of us made our way south. The bus ride down was not bad at all. At first, we thought we were going to be dropped off at the bus stop further from town. As we pulled up, you could see the hoards of vultures ready to ... read more

Learning the sad history in the capitol of Cambodia-Phnom Penh Siem Reap turned out to be a mixed bag of emotions, and we were looking forward to checking out the capitol of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. It seems that the cheapest bus company we can use is Sorya, and luckily there was a Sorya booking office right down from Lisa Café. We booked 2 tickets to Phnom Penh for $9 and were on our way bright and early in the morning after making a reservation at Capitol Tours and Guesthouse. The bus ride was really painless and took about 6 hours. Just like every other town/city we’ve been to, we had no idea what to expect. We DID know, however, that we would be attacked by tuk-tuk drivers as soon as we pulled into the bus station. ... read more
