your blog = my memories
hey guys, congratulations for your decision to start such a wonderful journey and also for your great work here in the blog. I lived in Cambodia for A YEAR and now your blog refreshed all my memories from there: dirty and noisy phnom penh, phsar thmey, orrusey market, their weird foods, bugs and frogs, fried bananas…you are damn right! The food in BB world sucks! I could only eat Indian food. Although you haven’t stayed there for a long time, you could address the character of city and people pretty well. Congratulations! And I liked this post especially for the matching pyjamas! Damn right about Cambodian women …! Nate and Jessie, I wish you success throughout your journey and life…

Hi Donna and Neil
Yeah, we totally agree with you! It's totally going to get worse yet. Definitely not our favorite place

Oh dear!
Seems like Phi Phi hasn't improved at all. Our first, last and only visit to Phi Phi was back in 2007 and we found the same things as you but it seems like it has got much, much worse since then. We are sure it once had a charm to it but from all reports now as you say it's just like a full moon party every night. Most of your criticisms in this blog, we have in ours and it's just going to keep getting worse we think! We will never go back to Phi Phi, but Lanta was an amazing island - we spent Christmas there and will definitely go back. Enjoy Malaysia!

Hi Paul and Emma
Thank you so much for sharing how you felt in Vietnam!! It wasn't the most positve experience for us either but we are glad we ended in Sapa on a good note. Honestly, we have found from talking to people that those who take the easy way out with transportation (open bus), food and accomodation are those that love Vietnam. Well, it also helps to have a lot of money to burn! But those on a budget struggle to make a go of it on their own. The Thai islands helped us forget some of the issues we delt with there :)...on to Malaysia tomorrow. Cheers! Nate and Jessie

Glad you've joined the ranks of scuba divers. It's a wonderful water world. Can't wait to read about more travels.

Don't worry guys it's not just you. I've travelled lots of places many in Asia and Vietnam is the one place I would never return to. The country has some stunning places and interesting history but the people (I realise I'm generalising) are truly awful. Its basically just rip off the tourist for as much as you can as quick as you can and move on to the next, and be ignorant of the fact that not only will you not eat at that restaurant/use that tour taxi operator/shop at that market again for the three or four days that your in that particular place and tell everyone else you meet not to also. It was nice to get back to Thailand Malaysia etc where you could organise a trip/hostel/train etc or just ask for info and advice without five guys in your face shouting flailing and basically trying to confuse and bully you into handing over the cash. As you can tell I didn't like the place Ha ha safe travels mytb.org/paul-and-emma

heart kayaking!
love your photos from kayaking! kayaking in halong bay was one of my fav activities on my trip. i'm sorry you're been having such shit luck in vietnam :(, i loooved it!! we did on overnight boat trip in halong bay and was super fun, still keep in touch with people i met on it. but everyone's experience is different. i think ya'll deserve to break the "rules" more often ;)... you don't want to get burnt out too soon! a little pampering on occasion can go a long way for the psyche. i've never been to sapa, i'm excited to hear how you liked it!

Vietnam
Hi Wanderly Wagon, Thank you for your honesty and letting us know you had the same frustrations. We never heard anything near as bad as what we experienced. Everything is relative though and maybe most people travel through the country on package tours. It's definitely not easy doing it on your own...and we sure met a lot of people that felt the same way! The country is really beautiful and we had some great experiences to help make up for being ripped off every day :) Cheers! Nate and Jessie

Vietnam :(
Reading this blog brings back all my bad memories about Vietnam. The constant battle of trying not to being ripped off or screwed. Shame though, as its an amazing country. ps Good read!

Hi Jenny and Justin!
How are you guys?! So glad you are enjoying the blog...it's been interesting in Vietnam and definitely been patience testing. Although we've been together all day every day things are awesome between us. I think experiencing things together brings people together. As you know, both our jobs were so demanding and stressful...we feel like we can actually spend some quality time together! Any news I should know about???!!! ;) Lots of love, Jessie and Nate

Hi you two!!
Ahhh how the trip has changed over the course of the past few months...we are extending our SE Asia leg into October and moving India to after Central and South America. We spend a lot of time looking into the Indian visa and due to where we will be the hassle of getting it abroad (and the extra $$) just isn't worth it. We'll stop back in the US, grab it while we are there and be set when we get to that point. We're really looking forward to our beach time...Sapa is georgous but cold and wet at the same time :) Jessie and Nate

Hi Kris and Kate
Yes, the peeing is a little out of control. For some reason, it just struck us as extra funny that the kids would just let their stream fly into the street. And yes, we know about Sinh Cafe chaning their name which was probably a good thing. Now all the fake's will be doing the same. Amazing to us how many "Sinh Cafe's" there were in Hanoi!! Cheers! Jessie and Nate

Good one again guys;-) Like the informative side of it and will use it in the future for sure;-) So are you getting your SE Asia part shorter or still staying till end of may as planned originally? Enjoy

It doesn't stop when they're kids!
The peeing in the street is done by all ages! You've probably noticed. Great blog. In case this is useful, the REAL Sinh Cafe is now called Sinh Tourist. Any still called Sinh Cafe have stolen the name.
