Well, considering we are all back in New Zealand now, I thought I would wrap up the Travel Blog with some of what we got up to from Bosnia onwards. I left the last blog with us exiting Sarajevo (and Bosnia) on route to Belgrade, Serbia. The train ride to Belgrade was one of the least enjoyable of the trip … it was long, hot, and even broke down at one stage. As Air Conditioning, I had our water bottle holding the window open, which at one of the stations I managed to knock out the window so we went most of the journey with no water whatsoever! Did I mention the train ride was long and hot … and slow too. We ended up going back up into Croatia before coming down into Serbia and ... read more

Howdy peoples, Well Taryn is correct in that my blog wasn’t going to take a whopping 1 month to write! Although, we’ve got some catching up to do as I’m starting this on a train in Romania from Arad to Sibiu, finishing it in Brasov, and a lot has happened since, including cutting our travels shorter than originally expected. Taryn left off in Spain and that’s where I will pick it up. It was a random decision to fly from Spain to Croatia. Basically, we knew we’d seen enough of Spain (although we loved it and could of spent heaps more time we did want to see other places on this trip) and didn’t know where to head next. We would of liked to have gone to Italia before Croatia but the timing meant that tourists ... read more

Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole…… Hola, Buenos dias, un café con leche (me) y un café solo (Jeff) and dos cervezas por favor (both of us) have become apart of our every day language and under the hot Spanish sun, dos cervezas por favor, has made its way to the very top of our list!!! It has been a while since our last blog, my apologies…. I’ve decided to do it a little differently this time, breaking it down into a statistical summary of our travels so far and then a summary of our Spain adventures. Here goes: Number of flights: · 10 (including one flight from Mallorca to what we thought was a Barcelona Airport, which turned out to be 100 kms outside of Barcelona, so an hour and a half bus ride to the city ... read more

Taryn left our adventure on our last night in London. After we finished with some final sightseeing, notably viewing Buckingham Palace from afar as crowds gathered for the Jubilee celebrations, we headed back to Clapham Junction to meet Jo for dinner. We went to a fantastic Thai restaurant where we succumbed to the temptations of a starter, main and dessert ... absolutely mouth smacking delicious so thanks Jo for a great choice! I’m a little ashamed to say that such are the glutinous eaters Taryn and I are that we happily helped mop up what was left on Jo’s plate too! I even started eyeing other tables for some tasty left morsels! The next morning we made our way on foot back to the Victoria Coach station to catch our bus to Portsmouth where a 24 ... read more

Long live the Queen of England, ay Jeff….. I tend to procrastinate when it comes to writing blogs, which is why the Scottish one took so long to come out and why Jeff had to write the Irish one too… so I’ve promised Jeff that our English blog will be completed before we touch down on Spanish soil… so here we are on our Ferry from Portsmouth, England to Santander Spain. A 24 hour sailing, so you’d think I have ample time to accomplish this – I have 5 hours left and the clock is ticking… Ireland to England – 24th May - We had a beautiful day for sailing the Irish Sea, leaving Dun Laoghaire for Holyhead and then Manchester. Luckily for us, all our transportation from Ireland to Manchester was ... read more

Well I was more than a little excited to be heading back to Dublin, a city I lived in for 14 months back in 2002-2003. Dublin is a fantastic city. It has that old world charm to it but unlike Scottish towns and cities that tend to still be quite backwards and reluctant to combine the old with the new, Dublin has a very modern feel to it. When I lived here Dublin was going through a big transition by installing a tram service and building an underground tunnel to divert all the heavy traffic from the Liffey port and central city. These projects were still underway when I left which was disappointing, but they are now complete and make a huge difference with less congestion in the city and greater transport options and city character ... read more

Firstly, I must confess, I’ve been quite the slacker in writing this installment of our travel blog, we have been so busy in Scotland and Ireland and now we are enjoying some chill time in Marple, Stockport, just outside of Manchester, and the weather is bliss! So, Scotland….We arrived in Edinburgh at approximately 9.30pm on 9th May. Welcomed by the cool crisp Scottish air. Jeff was very much correct in that rain features quite heavily in this part of the trip, though there was none to speak of on that very first evening. Luckily for us, our accommodation host had provided us with exceptional walking directions to get to her place, so even though it was 9.30pm, given that it was a lovely evening and Niamhie was already asleep in her pushchair, we decided to walk. ... read more

Well it turns out that as amazing as we know Niamhie is, she is yet to master actual typing but she did want us to write a wee sentence from her so here it is … “goo goo gah goo pfft ahhh goo gah eeeeeftt” … so there you have it, wise words indeed I’m sure you’ll agree. She was so excited to say these things to you all that on completion she shat her pants, which I believe in baby language is her way of saying that Paris is the shiz. Well, our next full day started by heading out to Château de Versailles. Now, unfortunately you get my views on our morning in Versailles and I hate any type of royalty with a passion (and I mean with a passion!) so probably have a ... read more

Bonjour, Taryn here and I’ll be your host for this blog…. Firstly, I must address the issue of being trained like a monkey….ain’t gonna happen!! EVER!! Well, I believe Jeff left off somewhere over the Indian Ocean on our way to Paris via Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Flying over Saudi Arabia was amazing, seeing the sand stretch out before us, quite different from the country we just left behind with its lush green vegetation. We stepped off the plane into the hazy heat of an early Riyadh evening on to a bus headed for the airport terminal, where we were to wait it out for the next 6.5 hours. Our flight to Paris wasn’t due to leave till after midnight, so our mission was to try and get Niamhie to sleep in the departure lounge and keep ... read more

Our adventure started when we left Christchurch for Kuala Lumpur (translates to Mud Valley). After going through customs, we waited to board our plane, which gave Niamhie a chance to throw up on me not once, but twice before we even left New Zealand. Our flight was late leaving, but that didn’t really matter as we had a long 11 hours on board to look forward to and I wasn’t really sure how Niamhie would take it. As it turns out she was amazing and we needn’t have worried. She had her moments, but we managed to get her to sleep often and when she grizzled we just walked her up and down the aisles. Taryn and I, on the other hand did not sleep, but managed to doze a few times, so upon arriving into ... read more
