Up early with the birds. As always. Someone told us about a bakery down the road, that's attached to the library, that is amazing so we are heading there to find some treats for in between our dives today. We gave away the rest of our PB yesterday thinking we wouldn't need it today, oh well, & it's impossible to find PB out here supposedly. The bakery is owned by a Spanish woman who, like most Spanish women, chatted away to us while we were checking out her baked goods. I love how chatty the Spanish are. We bought a couple slices of Tortilla Espanola & a loaf of baguette & headed back to our hostel. We made some egg sandwiches on baguette for breakfast & switched rooms before heading out to the dive shop. We'll ... read more

Can you find the frogfish?
Ocotopus!

Apparently I was tired (or perhaps it was the Benadryl?). I slept for about 10 hours. Wow. Of course it poured rain last night, but is perfectly clear & sunny & hot this morning. So far the early onset of rainy season isn't bothering me at all. It's working with my schedule. Thanks! In the morning the bugs are quiet but the birds are on point. There are so many birds up singing & squawking & making all kinds of funny noises. I love the jungle (with the exception of the bugs that bite). I got out of bed & looked out the window only to see two monkeys jumping around in the tree next to our room. Awesome!! We could hear the Howler's off in the trees somewhere & the Green Parrots were going nuts ... read more

This morning we made egg sandwiches for breakfast. I'm becoming accustomed to American cheese, which I normally really dislike, but when that is all you have to choose from you can't be too picky. We also made some hard boiled eggs to take with us & a bunch of random snacks, like PB & banana sandwiches, chips & cookies, to tide us over during the day between dives. It is clear blue skies this morning. Yippee! After getting our dive gear at the shop we headed out to the boat on the beach. The boats were all kind of stuck in this little lagoon that is easier to access during high tide when the waterway is full, it's now low tide & not quite so easy. But exciting! We got on the boat & headed out ... read more

Up before 5a.m. to get ready to catch our bus. We headed to the bus terminal with 2 girls from London who are also going to Santa Catalina. Our cab dropped us off next to the bus heading to Santiago. 3 hours on this bus. The chairs reclined all the way back almost flat. It was great. We actually cuddled on the bus & slept well except for the fact that the A/C was on full blast & it was freezing. We are not accustomed to A/C & it was great for a few but then we were practically shivering, that's why we had to cuddle. In Santiago we took a cab to the other bus terminal. Always more than one for some reason. Organization is not a quality that is held in high regard in ... read more

This morning we had our last Tesoro Club & espresso for breakfast (addicted!). Matty got up early to make it for us. Thanks Matty! Our cab arrived, we said our goodbyes & he left us with these parting words, we'll have great travels because we're Carebears! He he he! Love it. We headed into town & straight to the dive shop. A different dive shop than the one we went with the other day. They weren't super impressive so we'll give someone else a shot. We figured we'd dive our way out of town. May as well make the most out of a travel day. We did two dives. It poured down rain in between dive 1 & 2 & it made us so cold. By the time we finished our second dive it had cleared ... read more

This morning I had my usual overload of espresso. It's just too good. We shared what has become our daily breakfast, the Tesoro Club & delicious banana pancakes with real maple syrup. So tasty. They also have this homemade hot sauce that is so good. I think it's made from roasted peppers & some perfect secret spices. Then we prepared ourselves for our Goonie walk. Matty insisted that we take the dogs with us, probably because they will make sure we don't miss the turnoff to La Piscina. With sneakers on our feet & 4 dogs trotting along with us, we headed out. Somehow it is already 11:30 by the time we leave, there isn't a cloud in the sky, & it is hot. Hottest part of the day & we're going to hike for hours. ... read more

Today we are taking it easy. We were going to head to Bastimientos to stay out there but from what we've heard from other guests & Matty, it doesn't sound like it can even compare to being out here. It was an easy sell actually, we love it out here & could stay a long time. Plus Matty offered to buy us dinner if we stay, so that was another easy choice. He's an excellent chef & we have eaten very very well here. I sat upstairs on the "comfy chairs" overlooking the water. We've named them the comfy chairs because they have lots of cushions & they are comfy. The kitty that lives here, Mineux, has one chair all to herself, she's almost always sitting in it, unless she's sitting next to me at the ... read more

Up early to dive. Caught cab out front & went into town for breakfast at the Pirate's Restaurant. American cheese, why? with our scrambled eggs y jamon. Went to dive shop next door, waited for awhile for them to get organized. Our DM Manuel is from Guatemala. Dive 1 @ Dolphin Rock where we saw: Eagle Ray, Lionfish, lots of Fireworms, & 6 Lobsters lined up side by side under an overhang. Funny. Not a lot of coral, with just ok visibility. 2nd site at Sachen. Amazing coral reef, beautiful. The most colorful since Belize. Pink, red, blue, purple, lavender, yellow, orange, black, fans, just amazing. We saw a RN shark in a cave who just stared at each of us as we went down to look at her, from the back of the cave we ... read more

**Don't forget to look at all the pics on the bottom of the blog! :) Had breakfast (open egg sandwich aka Tesoro Club) & of course a lot of espresso. Matty gives us freebies daily, like samples, today was the passionfruit smoothie & Wow! I now am in love with Passionfruit! We made a quesadilla with cheese & green onion for the Goonies walk. Went on Goonies walk. Turned off the trail early (we learned later) & walked on tide pools. There was a lot of time spent shell collecting. Lots & lots. Cloud cover but really hot. Swam in most amazing beautiful bay on the way back. Walked in flips, probably not best idea. Our feets were really really tired upon our return to Tesoro Escondido. Made it back to hotel, hot, dehydrated & starving. ... read more

I was up before every single person in the dorm room. Go figure. Although I was also the first person in bed. So maybe there's a correlation. I got up & had some free coffee & the got started on breakfast. We are of course having George bowls to start us off on the right foot for another decent sized travel day. Once we packed up we headed out to the bus terminal & got in line to catch our mini-bus. This bus terminal is exceptionally organized which is always appreciated. The bus bays are labeled with the names of the towns the buses are heading to. Wow! Of course, the bus we want to catch has the longest line. Shoot. The problem with lines here is that not everyone follows the rules to line waiting ... read more
