NOT FAIR
The Camel's going to get to the Wakhan corridor before me...carousing with Tajik tribesmen in the Pamir mountains probably...not fair at all!!!

Chasing Ecstasy
We're glad the Camel is traveling to lands few experience. It would be great to track how many travel bloggers decide to go now that you have been there. Hope your mascots are with you. Geogorian chants sound like a great choice. Wish we'd been in the church listening with you. Sorry you didn't get to see the eagles.

Mascots and eagles and bloggers
Mascots are definitely with me, but they've spent most of their time resting in the hotel room. That will change once the journey gets into more adventurous terrain. Despite not seeing the eagles, Almaty was still a very enjoyable stay. It will be interesting to see if other bloggers are influenced by these blogs to travel to Central Asia, but it would likely take many months and even years for such influence to become apparent.

What a beautifully written intro, but my favorite part of this blog was your interpretation of the street sign vs. Jens' translation. What a hilarious example of the mysteries and confusions of travel. Keep us updated with more great descriptions and tales~! :)

Adrenaline Addiction? Could be.
What you describe sounds like adrenaline addiction and I think most of us on this site have at least a touch of it. Can't wait to read the next installment!

Adrenaline Addcition
I had never given this idea serious thought before. I will need to consider this further, but it could well be one of a number of factors that drives me to explore.

I WANT TO GO
It is so good that you take us to those places. You are very lucky!!! (me too). I like the way you describe your feelings previously to every trip, I feel the same. Thank you.

Thanks for paving the way
For some reason I have always wanted to go to Kazakhstan, never really knew why, but now I do. The place has just gone up a couple of notches on my travel list. Cannot wait to read of your travels across the Pamir mountains.

No sir, Mr. Stereotypist, it's not about vodka ;)
It says 'Memorise the first signs of tuberculosis'! The top, blue writing is in Kazakh with some Cyrillic letters I don't even know and the bottom writing is in standard Russian. The signs are 'Coughing for longer than two weeks', 'Excessive sweating', 'Fever', 'Weakness', 'Reduced appetite and weight loss'. At the very bottom they recommend you go to regular check-ups. Nice sign, btw. :)

Thanks for the explanation!
I thought the first picture in the top left was someone drinking, not coughing. Thus my incorrect assumption carried onto the rest of the signs, which looked liked the effect of too much alcohol and a hangover. But what should I know, I don't drink alcohol and have never been drunk in my life! ;)

Food in Central Asia
I don't really know because I was self-catering in an apartment in Almaty. That will change from now on. However, I do have some food trivia - Kazakhstan sells Strawberry Nesquik, the first time I have seen that flavour outside of Australia.

You are doing the overland route that I couldn't do earlier this year because of lack of time and snow...
so I am really looking forward to reading about your adventures! Keep safe.

respect and passion
I agree with the general concept of the blog. When you start travelling everything changes: your mind, your dreams, your own country, your projects and much more. I write several blogs in Spanish on different circumstances and I can see that many people change their own opinions about travelling and being a traveller with responsibility and passion. Great job!!!! You are inspiring me.

THE experience
I am thinking more and more about Africa and the Omo Valley. It´s amazing, different, and I suppose there is no adjective to describe such a place. But, as usual, the most important aspect for me is THE PEOPLE. Excellent pictures.

Another excellent Travel Camel insight....
into the world of tourism and travel. Although I teach every day, I still wouldn't fancy giving a lecture to several hundred students. You are a much braver man than me!

Look like this is becoming an annual event.
It is great having an international speaker in Travel Blog. Toastmasters would be proud. The power of one is excellent. Wish we could have been there to hear your speech. Bravo.

Food for thought
Have also been mulling over specter of criticisms, both in relation to a bloggers depiction of place and how local residents react...flip-sides of the same coin. Tis the reason I am having trouble progressing with my latest blog. Though agree with the apparent conclusion to your discussions on the matter, that each situation is different and needs to be approached as such... It is this difference rather than the search for universal truths, academia has been honing in on this last two-decades.

Re: Food for thought
To expand slightly, factors to be considered included the popularity of the blogger, harshness of the claims and the number of bloggers commenting negatively. But as someone pointed out, if numerous bloggers start complaining on the unscrupulous practices of taxi drivers in a town, then it is more likely to be an actual problem rather than any incorrect perception. Thus, efforts should be made to rectify the situation rather than defend the accusation.
