| 12th December 2006 Martina | I loved Peru as well - From: Cuckoo for coca leaves Hi Paul and Casey, It was a pleasure reading your bit about Peru, I was 5 months pregnant when we did Peru, and it brought back happy memories reading your Blog. I thought i was going to die in Cusco and basically wanted to leave the minute no, second we got off the plane. I wasn't allowed the coco leaves, so nature took care instead. I was soo nauseus. We had to cancel the Inca Trail on doc's recomendations, and it is good to read how beautiful the trail was. I am ok for missing it, as we spent 3 nights in Aqua Caliente resting and looking into the local life with lovely food, the healthiest I ate during my whole pregnancy. Don't know where you are now, but have fun, enjoy and keep sending updates. I love them. Have a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2007, lots of love Martina |
| 27th November 2006 The Travel Bugs | Thanks! - From: From the armpit of the world to the belly button Thanks for the comment. I went to Wikipedia where I found that indeed Coca Cola does now own 50% of Inca Kola (but Inca Kola Company gained bottling rights for Coke products in Peru) plus learned lots of other interesting tidbits. If anyone is interested hereīs the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inca_Kola |

| 8th November 2006 Darwing | FANTASTICO! - From: It must be the altitude or something THANKS FOR SHARING! I'LL TAKE OFF NEXT YEAR FOR SURE |
| 4th November 2006 Marilyn | Ecuador is just so colorful and Beautiful! - From: It must be the altitude or something Yes.... you still have sooooo much more to see of this AMAZING little country. One thing I want to correct you is that "Panama Hats" are NOT from Panama they're 100% from Ecuador they're known as Panama Hats because they were sold in the Panama Canal many years ago by Ecuadorians, but unfortunately due to the tourists that bought them there that name was given. Weird that you didn't learn about that!!! every Ecuadorian knows that and you'll read it on ALL the Ecuador Trip books! In spanish they're called sombrero de Paja Toquilla nobody calls tthem Sombrero de Panama |
| 3rd November 2006 The Byford Mob | Totally cleansed - From: It must be the altitude or something Wow, what an experience, with the cleansing of body and soul, you must be ready to continue your journey with renewed stamina, it made great reading, when you get back to Australia, if I see you lurking down the paddock on all fours I will just assume you are reliving this event. After having a horse at home nearly all of your life Paul I must say what a pleasure it was at last to see you sitting astride one, you look so comfortable and relaxed on it, all I can say Casey is well done to have managed to get him to take the ride. Take care..Mum. |
| 2nd November 2006 Noel | Quito is great - From: It must be the altitude or something I just got back from a long tour of South America and after reading your blog I thought I would suggest I couple things to you. 1) Check out the Secret Garden hostel in Quito. It is probably one of my favorite stops in all of SA. 2) Be sure to do some biking while you are in the area. I would check out the flying (or biking? I can't remember) Dutchman. I did a couple tours with them and they were great. 3) Hike Gua Gua Pachinchia (forget proper spelling). It is a great hike in the area and more rewarding than Cotopaxi (although you HAVE to go there too). enjoy! Noel My blog: www.travelblog.org/bloggers/wiggy |

| 24th October 2006 Mom | Thanks for the picture! - From: It’s not just for fancy hats and drug lords anymore I didn't know you cared so much about me. I was going to say if you and Paul moved to Panama I could come visit you because I could find something to eat at the food court AND get a whole body liposuction. But then you had to go and put that picture of the snake on your blog, so now I can't come to visit. I was going to thank you for the pictures and the blog but changed my mind. Thanks for the blog! I can hardly wait to hear how SO.AM. is. Be safe....love Mom |
| 22nd October 2006 Mom | A first for everything - From: Costa Rica: Red hot lava and pretty little butterflies Have fun in South America! I loved the picture of the orange eyed frog. He is soo cute. It's pretty amazing at everything you guys are seeing. What a trip! Be safe, Love Mom |
| 21st October 2006 Byford Mob | The beauty of nature - From: Costa Rica: Red hot lava and pretty little butterflies The greatest pleasure is to check the emails and find a new blog once again a great one, I love the diversity of your journeys and the way you describe them. |
| 20th October 2006 Just Jen | Sounds like a grand adventure - From: Costa Rica: Red hot lava and pretty little butterflies Glad you wrote about the blessing of misfortunes, missed busses turned into days you couldn't have planned any better. We live here now and find our best days are the ones the cosmos arrange for us. Enjoy the rest of your trip in Costa Rica! |
| 16th October 2006 The Travel Bugs | Response to Jen Klaus - From: Church bells, fire crackers, and manic mariachis Hi Jen. Thanks for checking out out blog. The name of the place in San Miguel is Parador de San Sebastian. It's only about two hours from Guanajuato to SMA by bus. I'm not sure how long it is from Divisadero, but it's a bit of a journey. Most folks we talked to went through Zacatecas (where you'd probably want to spend the night), but we took the longer route on the Pacific Coast. As for finding places to stay, we used our guide book some (which isn't Lonely Planet, and I wouldn't recommend it) as well as talking to other travelers and just wandering around once we got to a place. Hope this info helps and that you have a terrific trip. If you have the time, I highly recommend the bus ride to Batopilas (as well as the train trip-but check out the condition of the track, I just heard from other travelers that the track between Creel and Divisadero recently collapsed). --Casey and Paul |
| 16th October 2006 Jen Klaus | Travel Questions - From: Church bells, fire crackers, and manic mariachis Hello Travel Bugs, Could you tell me the name of the beautiful little hacienda you stayed at in San Miguel de Allende? It looks/sounds great! Also, how far is Guanajuato from San Miguel de Allende? And...how far would it be to Guanajuato if we started from Divisadero to check the train ride out? We have approx. 6 days. Last, did you find the hotels from your Lonely Planet Guide, or by just cruising around when you got there? Thanks, Jen Klaus |
| 11th October 2006 Bruce | still lovin it - From: Honduragua The Blog is always a pleasure to read and view. Unfotunately moronic individuals pop up everywhere but fortunately number but a few. Don't waste your time giving them a second thought. I, as I'm sure most, love the writing and the pics and I look forward to each new entry. I also note that Paul and I have the same hairstyle. |
| 10th October 2006 Cara | - From: Honduragua Well, I just want you to know that I love your blogs- pictures, text and all!!! They make great lunch time reading at my office. I too felt very unsafe in Honduras, but Utila was fun, eh... I hope you continue to have a fun-filled and magical trip! That hike looked alot like the one we just did in Hawaii, except we had 40 lb. packs on! Top that... Love Cara |
| 10th October 2006 Misty | Wow! - From: Honduragua Even if I never get to make a trip through Latin America, I am getting to visit it through you and Paul. The pictures are beautilful and the storytelling makes me want to start saving my pennies to take a trip too. |
| 10th October 2006 Martina | I surely miss the travels myself - From: Honduragua Hey Paul and Casey, Now I know how my family and friends felt when I wrote them when I backpacked through Aussie and lived in Africa. I am living in your trip. I had a chance to do South America through my Africa boss, however declined, and am now able to experience it through you guys. I was in macchu picchu in April this year, as I was 5 months preggy, just make sure you have the dosh!!! They are New York prices there, and know how to make a buck or six!!! However it is worth every penny, and the Peruvian food is amazing and ever sooo healthy!!! Take the corn when on the train from Cusco to Aguas Caliente, yummie!!! Ok, be safe, and happy travels............adios mis amigos, buen viaje! Lots of love, the new mommy Martina |
| 10th October 2006 Mom | Do you ever just pinch yourself to make sure all of this is all real.......... - From: Honduragua What unbelievable travel! Thanks so much for your awesome blogs. Who needs to travel when somebody else will do it for you. I have to confess I would have loved to see the turtles. Be safe. Lots of Love |
| 10th October 2006 kimary | keep the details coming!! - From: Honduragua hey guys, i can't tell you how happy (and jealous) it makes me to read all of your adventures. i can't believe i've been back in the states almost 2 months and you all are just getting through central america...there's still so much more exciting tales to come. i love the way you tell stories - with all the important details to fully take us along for the ride. i can really picture all the places and people you meet. thanks so much for not giving up on the journaling (both in words and pictures) even though i know it must be tough this far along in the journey. stay safe and happy! love, kimary |
| 9th October 2006 The Byford Mob | Great read - From: You better hope the chicken dances-Part 2 Great Blog. Hope your keeping up the language skills Paul. xxx |
| 7th October 2006 The Travel Bugs | Response to Citlalli - From: All because of an eagle and a snake and a cactus Hi Citlalli. First I just want to say thanks for leaving us a comment, we always love to get them, and frankly our friends and family donīt leave us enough. While I have to say you were a wee bit sharp in the tone of your comment, I appreciate you pointing out things that I described incorrectly. I am always open to learning more about the countries I visit, so I would truly appreciate it if you would share what you know with both Paul and I as well as our friends and families who read our blog. Although I try to do my best to learn about the history and culture of the countries I visit and share it with the folks at home who donīt have the chance to visit the countries themselves, I simply cannot become an expert on every place we go. I read the guide books, ask lots of questions to tour guides and folks I meet in the streets, and even make a point of reading literature from the area Iīm in. And I do all of this because I want to learn. So please, instead of just critizing us, why donīt you help us learn more about the things we are a little ignorant about. Hope to hear back from you. Casey and Paul |
| 6th October 2006 Citlalli | all because an eagle, a catus and a snake you think? - From: All because of an eagle and a snake and a cactus Well your subject line couldnt be more ignorant...the "aztecs" didnt just see an eagle with a snake in its beak and said hey this is where we'll stay now since we saw that eagle with a snake on that cactus...please if youre going to write about someones culture do it correctly or else just keep your trap shut. |

| 13th September 2006 anonymous | Snorkel-rama - From: So long and thanks for all the fish . . . Hey Case- I was just in Hawaii smorkeling with sea turtles... Of course I love snorkeling and have no fear of the fishies and such! The sand fleas on the islands off Hoduras are terrible as well, but only after the rain, and it's some of the best diving and snorkeling anywhere! Enjoy Guatemala!!! Love Cara |

| 8th September 2006 Rebeka Thomas | Brave Aunty Casey - From: So long and thanks for all the fish . . . Aunty Casey you should go snorkelling at Coral Bay one day when you get to Australia the last time I went there when you get to the waters edge there are lots and lots of Zebra Fish? (black and white striped fish) and they are great fun to chase. There are jelly fish there too but don't worry they only come up when the tide is high. The tide was high when we went there and there where lots of dead ones on the shore, Someone was skipping on them but I was not too sure but i accidently stepped on one and they were awfully gross. there are these big fish that i call Snappers there was one with a hook in his mouth his name is Hook mouth. Oh yea good on ya Aunty Casey i would never be brave enough to hold a crayfish? ( dead or alive) "Hi Uncle Paul!!!!!!!!!" Love from your niece REBEKA !!!!!!!!! P.S Aunty Casey did you say sorry to Uncle Paul for nearly drowning him? :) (: |

| 27th August 2006 Janet Green | Friend of mums. - From: All because of an eagle and a snake and a cactus Hi Casey and Paul, I am a friend of mums from art class. She kindly passed on your website address. What a fascinating holiday you two are having. How I wish we could have done that when we were younger. We did Europe but nothing as adventurous as you two. What a fascinating place Mexico City and surrounding areas are. The Aztecs could certainly teach mum and I a thing or two about art especially with us doing mosaics. That tile house was amazing. Must go and do some work on my mosaics. Mum and the others are a lot further ahead that I. Good luck with the rest of your trip. I look forward to reading all about it. Particularly enjoyed the photos. Regards Jan (and Dave my husband who swims with mum at the club). |
