| 22nd August 2006 geoff | - From: Down South I checked out the exhibit at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and highly recommend it to all who don't mind a beautiful ride up the coast, a sunny stroll down Main Street in downtown Santa Barbara, and a provactive display of the burgeoning art scene that is taking fligh out of China. Yang Yong's work was one of my favorites as was one by the name of Dali (eponymous homage to Salvador?) and a few others, of whom I can't remember their names. |
| 22nd August 2006 The Rising Tide | The Future Is Now - From: Between Past and Future I saw Between Past and Future, a show that originated in NYC in 2004, prior to my trip to China. This was after spending a year reading everything I could find about the explosive art scene in China. I have met several leading figures, interviewed them and have gained rights to their work. I have been spending nights reviewing cd's and reading even more. It's a race to take in more and more, and I'm only touching the surface. This is the beginning of a renaissance. China has a 5000 year old tradition of artistic endeavor and with its opening up to the global market, more and more exchange is take place and waves of talented artists coninue to appear. I interviewed Cao Fei today. She's prolific. video, photography, playwriting, you name it. Watch her shine. |
