| 24th July 2008 MISS PUDI | UPDATE PLEEZ - From: Ciao, Bonjour, Hola! Hi there you two. Waiting, waiting, waiting on the adventures of R&R. You must be having fun, finding internet cafes a pain or forgotten us. Know the last is not true thanx to the steady flow of Post Cards. Very impressive. Sun is out in the Eastern Bay, life's great and go the All Blacks on Saturday night. Bummer Richie is still out of it but then so is Sterling Mortlock. An eye for an eye and all that. I might miss the game being otherwise occupied at a Pyjama Party doing charades, drinking Chocolate Marguritas with chasers of JB. Forecast for Sunday...a VERY quiet day. LOL...Jude |
| 22nd July 2008 The R and R Show | More coming! - From: Ciao, Bonjour, Hola! Yum, Cin Cin! Took Mum there for Mother's Day lunch last year. Photos coming, just heading back to London today, so we'll have a big session on Lisa's computer soon! |
| 21st July 2008 Lauren | Hi - From: Ciao, Bonjour, Hola! Hi trendy travellers Home sick today with the flu so tucked up in my dressing gown and catching up on the news. Went to Cin Cin's on Sunday for Lewis's birthday lunch. Yum! Rob couldn't come cos he had the flu', hence where mine has come from! Work sucks, weather sucks, but life is good. Roast pork on the menu for Sunday but I guess that doesn't appeal when tapas and tortillas are on the menu. Molly is being a good girl and I'm actively looking for her a sister for her. Must be mad! Rick get those photos on the blog, and another video or two please. It was great listening to Rohani's radio voice! Miss you heaps Love and hugs Mum |
| 20th July 2008 Sarah | - From: Schnitzel, strudel, Julie Andrews.... Hey just followed the link to your blog from the Busabout forums. I'm almost caught up! I so agree with your comment about football though. I'm from North America and it's not that big here, but I have really tried to get into it. But the only impression I get is of lots of running around and falling while clutching yourself with little action other than that! Also about your post a few days ago with the woman in the car accident. :( I read about that on someone else travelogue, how horrible. I hope she is okay. How are you finding Busabout? I've noticed a couple of negative comments with regards to the guides and bus drivers so far. Anyways, happy travels! Glad you're enjoying yourselves! Sarah |
| 18th July 2008 JUDI | UP TO DATE - From: Ciao, Bonjour, Hola! Hi R & R. Finally up to date with the blog and loving it. Chatting about your travels etc over morning tea this morning. We've been doing Palmers and Baxters who are putting their best food forward for usl Very impressive. Mmmm....bed bugs, shared accommodation, curtain dorms - give me the heat and hills any day. Now I am really showing my age or am I just insane? Loving the Post Cards. Got the one from Barcelona this morning. Spain and Portugal are on the Bucket List. T-Lee is now driving a 2005 XJ something, black Ford Falcon. Sarah Holmes(Mayors daughter) is coming to work in the newsroom. Di still incapacitated. No other gos. Keep blogging. LOL Jude |
| 16th July 2008 Christine | At Last... - From: Ciao, Bonjour, Hola! Hi Guys, well guess what, I finally got Deanna to find your Blog site for me and have sat and read your whole site - what a wonderful book this would make - you really have had the most wonderful time I know it is hard to describe things to people who have not been to these places but I have to say you're doing a pretty good job - keep up the good work oh and happy birthday Richard for the 20th June! Will be able to check in regularly now and enjoy all the giggles! Don't worry about the bad language nana's not averse to a few choice words herself! |
| 8th July 2008 Jan | More for nana to read - From: A little interlude Hi Guys, Nice to see that bandage thingee off your hand Rick, I was worried about how u managed eating properly with that on. We hope to be in the house on the 19th July. About time, we have been at Nana's for 6 months & at 58 years of age u don't need your mum to tell u how to do things, but once a mum always a mum so they say. Just printed your last 4 blogs off for her (Nana) Aaron, Rhonda & the boys are over in Cairn's till the 16th July & it sounds as if they are having lovely weather like u. Keep the blogs coming we do enjoy them Cheers Jan |
| 7th July 2008 Stacey | Thanks! - From: A little interlude Hi guys, thanks so much for that - perfect timing as I fly to Prague tomorow - cannot believe I am here!!! Went and hung out in hyde park yesterday and listened to some crows singing (please don't get angry with me Richard). I recorded some bits and pieces on my phone, so maybe I will figure out how to download them some time and send them to you. Right, time to pack!!! Stacey |
| 7th July 2008 Loren | Dubai Showers... - From: Cute little cottage on Little Roke Ave...owight? ... were brilliant when we were there! Twas a spa like place near the 5 star hotel in the airport that you could hire by the hour, nice n private like, but during our 4 hr layover having flown from NZ via every city possible, we decided to take advantage! Loving the comments, 2 man show is great guns - and when are you back in London town so I can come see you????? xxxx |
| 6th July 2008 Lisa | Buggered.... - From: A little interlude S**t, just done my first workout at home with my fitness instructor on the internet - live! Didn't realise I was so unfit. Am going to try pilates on my next session. Terence has one more week left before he returns to work. He is still limping without crutches, getting quite restless and sick of daytime TV shows. He has watched every Wimbledon tennis match - live on TV and it is the mens finals today. Having a big bar-bq this weekend with friends then we hope to go camping the weekend after if the weather is good. How is your hand? Never been to Monaco but I hear it is quite an extravagant city with fancy big yachts and fast cars. I guess you might spot a couple of Ferrari's there. Well, back to the usual boring chores now - cook dinner, wash up, iron my pants, a cup of English tea then bed! |
| 3rd July 2008 Kartina | yeah I would be spewing - From: Buon Giorno from Rome well that sucks for you. Really does. lots of friends have told me that it's pretty impressive inside. but I guess you don't want to hear that right? Well put it this way...least you're not stuck inside a production control room in the shittiest of buildings where the only ladies toilets are 3 floors up and are vile. Sri Lanka are currently 235-4,40.1 overs. first ball was 4pm and it's now 6.50pm. kill. me. now. well hope the rest of the trip does not hold any more disappointment. let me know when you hit Madrid and I can hook you up with my old flatmate Pablo. |
| 3rd July 2008 Dad | You poor bastards.... - From: Buon Giorno from Rome You poor bastards.... All that bloody heat, whilst we have about 10degrees, pissin down with rain, have to go to work every day, fight asian drivers, mow lawns in the rain.. then the day after you wash the car it rains again...( When did you say you guys were comming home.) Stay dry love yas...Dad.xx |
| 1st July 2008 Dax | Hey bro with the bung hand! (and ur lady) - From: Buon Giorno from Rome Sorry it has taken me ages to subscribe! Been busy with final exams and then the belated wonderful honeymoon in Australia with Sara. Love your pics! the Italian food got me drooling bro! Whats up with the bung hand? Ready to copy the queen's waving? Glad to see you guys are not lost in Europe yet (apart from Venice eh?). The hot weather over there looks brilliant. Lucky, it is freezing here in Wellington!! Make the most of your wicked times aboard and be merry. Enjoy! Love Dax (and Sara) :D |
| 29th June 2008 Dad E | Welcome to the the 'real' world - From: Buon Giorno from Rome AT least the wine and food was OK. Rome does not figure highly on my horizons - spent too much time in Catholic churches in my youth as it were. Could handle the Vitcan I suppose, but they'd better be open! |
| 29th June 2008 Tas Evans | Roma - From: Buon Giorno from Rome So, it was an adventure in Rome then. |
| 26th June 2008 Kartina | such a shame.... - From: Zig Zag to Italia about the hand and also that I've just found out today that Daniella will be in Venice in about two weeks. So you'll miss seeing each other. Although I hear she's due to head somewhere in France afterwards and then a spell back in the UK too. Might find out her dates and see if they clash at all, otherwise you'll see her back here in the Pore. Bonfires sound lovely, wiping with left hand was more than I needed to know :) |
| 22nd June 2008 Lisa | The venetian glass... - From: A Very Quick One Oh, I so luuurrrvvveee Venice even though it is quite touristy. Get the public boat to Murano - the glass island where I got the green necklace for Mum. I can't remember the name of this small glass jewellery shop and who knows if it's still there. This store was small, quirky and had a wooden theme (wooden walls). Some of these necklaces were already displayed in cute brown recycled boxes. Hell, there are glass stores everywhere on this island so no point in me trying to explain where I got it exactly. I've sent you an email with a picture of Mum wearing it so, check it out and see if you can get a similiar one. If you don't have time to visit Murano, then I'm sure there are a few glass shops in Venice. Lurrvv big Sis. x |
| 21st June 2008 Jan,Barry & Nana | Happeee Birthday - From: Schnitzel, strudel, Julie Andrews.... So sorreeee Rick we forgot your birthday, its nana's fault as she didn't have it written down on her calander in the toilet for all to see,& with all our house alterations etc, we just plain forgot. But knowing all the Alexander boys as well as I do I'm sure u had a very merry time & it will be one birthday u will always remember. You both seem to be having a great time, as my computer is up at the house I go up and print off all your blogie stuff for nana to read every week, she just loves it, so keep it coming. Barry & I are in the middle of pulling up the carpet so better go help the old boy. Happy b/day from us all Rick. Cheers Jan, Barry & Nana Oh by the way Rohani its Rick that meant to give u those little (love) bites not the bed bugs !!! (I'll have to have a chat to him when he returns a) |
| 21st June 2008 Mum | Cheating - From: A Very Quick One Hey Ro Rick It was so good to talk to you yesterday. I know it's sort of cheating but I was having withdrawals! I hope the rest of your day, (birthday), was a memorable one. Molly says Hi as does Robbo. When in Venice can you find me a small piece of yellow venetian glass? Was going to hint but thought I should just ask outright!!! Cheeky eh. Lisa got me a green piece, when she was there, to wear round my neck, so thought I could have an unmatching pair. Birthday money going into your Visa on Wednesday. How much you ask? Surprise! Rick, hope your hand is feeling better. Forget not drinking beer, drink as much as possible it kills the pain in your hand and moves to your head. At least your not thinking about your hand then! Gotta go have gardening to do. Can't wait to see more photos!!!!! Love and hugs Mum xxxxxxxx |
| 20th June 2008 Dad E | - From: A Very Quick One Happy Birthday Richard. Are the German beer steins too heavy or something? |
| 20th June 2008 Lisa | Harpy Birthsday! - From: A Very Quick One I know I've already sent you a text this morning but here we go again: *sings* Harrppyy Biirrrthsdddaaayyyyy toooo yooouuuuu!! Have fun in Austria and take care of your hand. Love big Sis x |
| 20th June 2008 Mum Evans | Born Day - From: A Very Quick One Many Happies Richard. Although it doesn't sound like you're having a happy time with the cast on your arm. All the best for your 'Born Day' anyway. |
| 20th June 2008 Miss Marple | Bed Bugs - From: A Very Quick One Must have been a far better class of traveller when I went around Europe, not a bed bug in sight (or maybe I was drinking too much to notice them!!) Please wish the one arm bandit Happy Birthday, all the best people have their birthdays at this time of the year, I can think of at least 8 other people with birthdays 20, 21, 22 June including moi tomorrow. |
| 18th June 2008 Dad | Hello birhday boy.. - From: Schnitzel, strudel, Julie Andrews.... Happy birthday bud, Keep the comments comming from the R&R show there great.. | 18th June 2008 Miss Marple | Well what will you be drinking?? - From: Schnitzel, strudel, Julie Andrews.... Hello Double R's Beautiful, 11 pm and I will be off to bed humming that jolly old Sound of Music tune all night... perhaps by the time you get to do your next post some other tune will have popped into your heads... We have recieved the CK postcard, thanks very much, the Prince has commented that he has never seen Czech Republic stamps before. How did the schnitzels compare with the Drury Butchers? Something else about travelling ie CK vs Prague, it will be all the smaller places that will stand out but you have to go to the big ones too just to prove it to yourself, but dont miss out on Paris, looking forward to hearing about food in French railway stations. Highlight of the week was finding Harrys bedroom window wide open the other day (middle of winter, strange thing) as it turns out he was piddling out of it, must have given builders in the paddock next door a good laugh watching an 8 year old stand on his bed to piddle out of the window. Keep on trucking...MM |
| 15th June 2008 Liz | - From: Czech it out...how many people have made that joke? and by this friday's birthday, i mean like, in a few weeks... |

| 11th June 2008 Kartina | Clearly not the right drugs... - From: Germany I've been in Bali. No internet access in our rock n roll villa. (well there was, just chose to ignore it for a few days). Wedding rocked! Pictures up on Facebook. Hundreds of them. Ok, gotta go...still at work 9.15pm. Just got told today that I'm off to Pakistan on the 30th June. Can't wait...hear it's a blast over there...place really goes off! (Thank you, thank you very much, I'm here all week!) |
| 11th June 2008 The R and R Show | reply to all comments! - From: Germany Mum - yes we did have pain relief in our box of tricks, the supply is now quite depleted. Didn't make it to Wenceslas Square. Miss M - yes we did bring gout medication from home. Char - seriously, flag Prague and go to Cesky Krumlov instead! It's way, WAY better, nobody on our bus who we've been hanging out with really liked Prague, this little town has all the same attractions and none of the crap (mess, dog poo, graffiti, rude people). |
| 10th June 2008 Charlene | Yay!! - From: Germany Oh my gosh!! You both are having such a fabulous time :-) You have given me some excellent ideas for my next trip to Europe (maybe next year) We had roast chicken for dinner last Sunday, ( I just caught up on your previous blog) it was great, tender yummy and the veges just right, this is amazing as its the first roast I haven't completed stuffed up, yay!! Rohani, you should pose for touristy pics, its just part of the joy of travelling, Prague is one of the places I really want to go to along with Paris. I can't wait to see your night time pics of Prague. Ok, I have raved on, hope you are both good, don't get sick for goodness sake, it sounds like your czech hospital trip was a mission!! Take care, Char xox |
| 10th June 2008 Miss Marple | Working the Northern Loop - From: Germany Hope the gout has cleared up by now, maybe its the drugs they are giving you arent real drugs - or did you bring some gout drugs from home, thats what John does!! Perhaps there is something in the sausages that induces gout?? No roast meals here but schnitzel for tea, I dont suppose that sounds like you are missing much, no kartofflen salat with that though.... Did you get my email requesting a post card, PO Box 43, Drury, 2247 in case you didnt.... Enjoy the free beer at Cesky Krumlov Rohani!! Cheers MM |
| 9th June 2008 Liz! | - From: Germany you two buggers look like your having a freaking blast! just as well that wasn't one of you ricocheting through the air! happy bday for friday rich! you big oldie xxxx |
| 9th June 2008 Mum Evans | Berlin & Prague - From: Germany Hey you two. Glad you got to Checkpoint Charlie. I stayed about 100 metres away (on the eastern side) from the gateway in '95. I was in Prague in '93 and enjoyed Herodjgeny (sp) Castle and Wenceslas Square (did you get there?). Hope the weather cools down a little for you - maybe in Austria, with any luck. Did you carry some pain relief in your medical box of tricks? Did you have to get into it for the pain Richard? Keep safe and take care. Mum |
| 8th June 2008 Lauren | - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride Well.........been home from Broome a week and just caught up with you both. I have been crying again cos yous is so funny!!!!! Nice to hear Lisa a weepy woo just like her Mum!XX Molly loved the dog hotel and has been a bit naughty since she came home but I'm whipping her in to shape. (Loves ragging ALL the bears out of the teddy bear room as I can attest to when I picked up 103 from around the house.) I came home looking like Hiawatha with fantastic tan. Booked again for next year, without Grandma, who was lovely but full on and never relaxes!. Worked out how to get around that, by breakfast at 7am then poolside by 8. Travel safely darlings. Miss you. Love Mum |
| 7th June 2008 Stacey | Greetings! - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride I love your commentary - very entertaining to read while eating my muesli and yoghurt for breakfast (didn't have a sunday roast so thought I would tell you about sunday breakfast instead). I can confirm that that nephew of ours is walking and doing a little talking - I have told him he has got three weeks to learn how to say Aunty Stacey. Its not really working so far! This weekend I have booked busabout from Prague to Rome and the greek Islands thing. So, I will be waiting for more travel advice about the hostels etc!! Thanks for making my breakfast entertaining! Stacey |
| 3rd June 2008 Lisa | - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride Yay, another Heineiken freak - just like me! Ahh, Berlin is quite interesting. Three things you must see in Berlin - the Berlin Wall (a barrier separating West Berlin from East Berlin), Brandenburg Gate (a famous landmark over 200 years old and symbolises the division during the Cold War) and the Checkpoint Charlie (remains of the border control - a crossing point between East / West Berlin). All free sights. Munich is good. Make sure you have a “Bavarian” mass beer at the Hofbrauhaus and have a wurst (sausage) at the food market - can’t remember where. I’ve been to Dachau concentration camp twice and it is one of my best highlights because it truly has opened my eyes. A very eerie place and if you’re the emotional kind, make sure you bring a pack of tissues. As soon as you read their stories, it’ll blow your mind away! It was great to see Pam, Len and Jennie when they came to stay for a few days. They loved our cottage and as all mothers do, they pott about in our house, pull weeds from the garden, made a yummy cheese platter, cooked dinner and done the dishes (ahhh, bliss)! We chatted and drank gin and tonic every night - they are sooo funny. Terence is having his knee operation on Thursday and will be practically handicapped for a few weeks. I’m not really looking forward to do all the feeding, washing up and stuff. Bugger! We want photos sooooonnn!!! Love big Sis x |
| 3rd June 2008 Kartina | - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride actually if you must know, I found some nice kiwi meat at one of the supermarkets so made a yummy warm beef salad. Nadiah got traffic light macaroni cheese. (red and green peppers and carrots - you work it out). So will that count instead of a sunday roast? |
| 3rd June 2008 Kartina | - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride we didn't have roast. sorry. |
| 3rd June 2008 Kartina | news from the Pore - From: Four Seasons in One Ten Hour Bus Ride Hello. Well news from the Pore is that I'm leaving on a jet plane tomorrow morning with Margie, Heather and Dan and absolutely HANGING OUT to hit our villa in Bali. Jo leaves this afternoon in a group of 9 (her and parentals and siblings). we are all just SOOOOO excited. taking the laptop so will hopefully have access at our villa to post piccies. Sorry to hear amsterdam wasn't as fabulous as you had hoped...not much else happening here except for your neice being a massive drama queen and telling me that she has a "big idea" which is that I'm a "silly buggar". she did however put a baseball cap on backwards on her head last night in the garden and said "peace out homie" un-prompted. you must be SO proud. |

I'm very jealous of all the sightseeing you're doing. You know, all the the times I've been to London and I have never ever visited the Queen in her city crib? I've seen her country manor from afar driving down the highway....does that count? have a fabulous trip across Europe...I'm a wee bit excited to hear about the rest of your journey! |
| 27th May 2008 Stacey | Men in Fluffy hats - From: I left too many jerseys at home... glad you guys are having a good time - your blog is actually making me exciting for 5th July when I will be back in London. Jealous that you got a good pic of the guards on your first weekend! They eluded me the whole time I was there (well, I saw them, just not close up!). Am gonna book buasbout soon - might give you an email sometime re: the accomodation and your recomendations! Re: Bruges - ahhh so much chocolate! I recomend the river tour, climbing the tower and maybe trying to see a bit of Christ's blood. oh, and the Fritz (chips with tom sauce and alioli), the peach beer, and the mussels. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... |
| 26th May 2008 The R and R Show | So about the other rugby stuff... - From: I left too many jerseys at home... When we got home from Leicester we checked some NZ news sites to see if they reported the game - of course not, there was much better rugby to talk about...the London Sevens at Twickenham. Yes, we feel like twats for missing that one but we still had a great time. |
