Sometimes you just have to order the thing with the most ridiculous name on the menu. Ko Tao ended rather successfully. Our middle of nowhere resort had a bar which we never bothered to check out until the last day. Mostly because it's also in the middle of nowhere. To get to the bar, you have to climb a mountain at night with only a few torch lights as aids. I felt like there was going to be a sensei on top of the hill that will teach me some deep truth about myself as well as karate. What we found [View Full Entry]

Well sorry for being away for a few days. Things have been getting a little crazy in the Thailand neck of the woods. We spent the last few days in Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party and all the accompanying nonsense. The better part of these few days really shouldn't be repeated in blog form so I'll leave it to the imagination. Two days ago we jetted for an island a little more North, Koh Tao. After being from and center for the party for a few days and hearing nonstop techno music, we decided it best to stay somewhere [View Full Entry]

Ben and I finally made it out of the dirty cities and into the islands off the East of Thailand. Good thing too. Much better down here than in Bangkok. It's really strange at the same time here though. It doesn't feel like I'm in Thailand....maybe an upgraded Caribbean or something. There are few, if any, Thai restaurants here, everyone's white and every single bar here shows either Friends or Family Guy all day. Besides that, the place is beautiful. We have a sweet bungalow on a hill overlooking Sunset Beach which keeps us far away from the all-night parties to [View Full Entry]

Well we finally made it out of the gongshow that is Bangkok. The heavy air, scams and ladyboys are a little too much after 2 or 3 days. After getting sucked in to the ridiculous party scene for a few days, we decided that we would be semi-respectable people, get up early and start to see the sights. We managed to see The Standing Buddha, The Lucky Buddha etc., but once we made a break for The Grand Palace, the skies opened up and flash flooded the entire city. Streets were over ankle deep in water and we got caught out [View Full Entry]

Crazy tuk-tuk rides
Khao San Rd.

Well, we made it to Bangkok a few days ago. I must say, on the banana scale, this place is a bushel. I think our first night here, we didn't sleep until 10am...and that seems to be about the norm here. We're staying at a little hotel on the famous Khao San Rd. in downtown Bangkok and the place never sleeps. It's the type of place where you use fake names in case anything comes back to haunt you in your real life. Between the prostitutes constantly hanging around outside the hotel and the 2-4 booze, it seems like a place [View Full Entry]

Wow, is The Outback ever a different world from the East Coast I've been sticking to for the last 3 or 4 weeks. I hate to call it a wasteland because it's a great place, but there's NOTHING there. The heat is unbelievable too. I arrived in Yulara, which is right outside Uluru Park, around noon and it was hot. Like 42 degrees hot and no water in sight kind of hot. I didn't really plan on doing much my first day so I thought I would just get a lay of the land. As I walked to my room through [View Full Entry]

No time to write an entry. Just thought I upload some pics. Also, I think I have an early candidate for a winner in the 'booze' contest. After hanging around a bar in Cairns for a few hours and talking to the bartender, I asked her for a booze. Knowing where I was from and what I was doing, she gave me the pride of Saint John NB, a Moosehead. That's all folks. [View Full Entry]

Well I've finally made it all the way up the coast, or at least pretty much as far as I'm going. The Whitsunday trip was a good time. The first day, we were plagued by awful weather, as expected, and I felt terrible on the boat. Between huge winds, rain, waves, a hangover and a lack of sleep, I spend most of the day at the back of the boat telling myself I wasn't going to puke. I wasn't alone. Pretty much everyone on the boat just wanted to curl up and die. Being the smart guy that I am, I [View Full Entry]

Well I've just been hanging around the coast for the last few days. Nothing too crazy really. Being here makes me realize just how safe we are as Canadians though. Even though Australia's a western country, and VERY similar to home, there are still so many threats around. Just going on bushwalks here not too far from the cities, I've seen tons of poisonous snakes and spiders. The water here is infested with box jellyfish and great white sharks meaning you can't swim. Yesterday, I woke up about 5 feet from a Huntsman Spider. Now, I have no particular fear of [View Full Entry]

Well I left Paradise a few days ago and have been running ever since. My first stop was Brisbane where I only stayed for a night. I went to the Brisbane Broncos rugby game. Now, I don't know much about rugby. I know what a try is, and the general rules but little of it makes sense to me. It appeared to be a pretty solid game with the home side winning by 1 pt on a goal in the last few mins. I went out and partied on nearby Caxton St. afterwards til all hours of the morning. The rugby [View Full Entry]
