Cape tribulation, 2 and a half hours driving abovve Carins and beyond the surfaced roads, is isolated! The only place where tropical rain forests meet the sea. Our cabins are in the forest and the bar is on the beach (see photo) we spent time on beaches, cruising among the mangroves and crocs and had a two hour guided walk int he forest at night- complete with huntsman spiders!! We met a wild cassowary the next day!! [View Full Entry]

We have gone our separate ways for a few days. Eleanor and Rachel to Noosa, Hilary and Russell to Cape Tribulation. The Noosa trippers have come to do a special tour of Fraser Island, the largest sandbank Island in the world. Having only got to the Halse Lodge YHA at 10pm the night before, we were up again before 6am to catch the huge 4by4 which housed our group of 20 for the day. A large part was travelling there, across the most unspoilt coastline of Rainbow beach. We caught the ferry across to the Island, but had been warned a [View Full Entry]

We arrived from Sydney to a red desert place in the centre of Australia. The sky was clear blue, there was hot sun and a cold winter wind. The outback Pioneer Hostel was where we stayed in a ‘four dorm’ - It was a bizarre resort a 1000miles (literally!) from anywhere! The first day we went to Uluru (or Ayers rock as the white immigrants have named it) and walked though the red desert with no one round to the base of this enormous rock. It was fascinating, tall, bright, and very out of place on such flat land. Apparently it [View Full Entry]

Russell and Rachel got up far too early to venture out on a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb!! In a group of ten, lead by Matt who was lots of fun as our guide, we had an hour going through all the safety instructions and putting up ‘space age’ jumpsuits. Then it was up along the walkways and ladders to the very top of the bridge where you see the Australian flags flying. It was a wonderful morning, with the most spectacular views across the harbour. We saw four speed boats from Special Forces come right underneath us, practicing for when Mr [View Full Entry]

Rachel and Eleanor spent a fab day in Sydney and took the ferry to Manly Beach. The night we arrived we walked to the dock and had a lovely (and expensive!) meal by the water. The next day was sunny and sort of warm (for winter!) and we set off sightseeing about 11am (late for a Kirby adventure!). We took the rough ferry across to Manly Beach and went walking, eating and sunbathing for the afternoon- just check out the beautiful views!! After we'd seen enough of the surfers we went back to the hotel and met Tiffany and Changwon, (our [View Full Entry]

We start at the night before with a sundown search for the elusive fairy penguins! There was no one else on that stretch of rocks and the penguins were calling to each other which allowed us to spot the nests. We saw three but they were very hard to photograph, see attempt! Avis rented us a Yaris the next day and we headed via the Yarra wine growing valleys and the Hume highway on the two day journey to Sydney. We saw a part of Australia that many might miss. Some of the towns had a wild west feel, and the [View Full Entry]

Sydney is also a place for meeting old friends! Wendey and Sue (Russell's old work colleagues) moved to Australia in the last two years and we meet them on the steps of the Opera house. A lovely two days was had by all, specially the fab meal we all ate by the harbour bridge, Hilary getting a taste for kangaroo stake! We had a really interesting tour around the famous Opera house and walked through the botanic gardens- Very beautiful despite the rain. They showed us 'The Rocks', the oldest part of Sydney with great bars, resturants and shops. We all [View Full Entry]

After 20 years of watching Neighbours Eleanor and Rachel's dreams came true.. we met our heroes!! A day dedicated to our favourite soap, a bus tour of Ramsey street (smaller in real life), meeting the stars in person and a full night of Neighbours partying with Dr.Karl, Libby and Dylan. Whilst the Ramsey street tour was fab, nothing could top meeting our favourite stars and especially Karl Kennedy's band, aging rockers -The Waiting Room. Six of us went to the Elephant and Wheelbarrow and Mark's highlight was getting numerous pictures of Libby! A few other things happened today which [View Full Entry]
