We caught a bus from Saigon early in the morning and arrived in the coastal village of Mui Ne midday. We found a nice place by the beach, with a/c and TV so Chris was happy we could watch movies all evening. The area looks beautiful with lots of fishing boats and hills in the distance. A shame though as it is not very nice to swim in the sea as river water comes out making the sea murky and rubbish floating around in it. We spent the evening watching movies and relaxing in the cool hotel room as a big [View Full Entry]

Today we went on a tour to see co chi tunnels. Quite interesting. The co chi gerilla lived in this area and during a 20 y old period they built and lived in undergroung tunnels to avoid being killed by the us trops during the war. They had lots of diffent death traps made to ensure the they killed as many us soldiers as possible that came close. they usually faught in the morning and worked the risefields etc at night. At the end of the tour we were able to walk through 120 m in one part of the underground [View Full Entry]

Today we left at 8am with a bus that took us to My Tho a town from where we left with a small ferry to explore some islands on The Mekong river. Our first stop was at a place where coconut candy is made. We were shown how the candy is made and were given samples to taste, super nice, so we bought some. Chris been looking to buy bottles of snake wine, wine bottle containing a cobra's head with a scorpion in it's mouth, Very tasteful,, hmm. Here he was offered to taste some, and although he looked a bit [View Full Entry]

After doing two days of sweet nothing on Bamboo Island, we make our way back to Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Not much to report of the island really except for Linda falling on the hammock straight after I was on. She got on to the hammock to read a book and the rope came off, lucky not hurt but landed on her ass. Not so lucky was a girl in the bungalow next to us. We were on our veranda when we heard a thud. We looked next door and saw a girl getting a better view of a porcelain bowl of wateron [View Full Entry]

We left Mien Mien yesterday. The night before we left a new guy had come to stay there. Dave, he was from Ireland but had been living in Darwin, Australia where he was a fireman for bush fires. We asked if he would like to join us in a game of Yatzee, which he won and it was the first time he had played! Hustler! Anyway, that evening was very quiet, chatting to Dave, dinner then bed. It is amazing how tired you get in the early evening when you spend the day doing nothing, nothing but watch the tide come [View Full Entry]

The bus ride was same same, kareoke songs playing on a tv with a bad connection full blast. One thing I will say, Linda was laughing so hard at this one song, it brought tears to her eyes. What a stupid song! As I am wrighting, it will not have the same effect, but if you can use your imagination, it goes something like this, not the words but the idea behind the song! It is clearly a sad love song because every new verse was started with the singer pretending to cry, but no ordinary cry, the cry you do [View Full Entry]

We have been in Phnom Penh for 2 days doing the tourist sights. Phnom Penh is a hell hole. Being the capital of Cambodia, it is packed wil people living there trying to make a dollar or two. It is en exact copy of Point Road in Durban, South Africa. Full of guns, drugs and prostitution. With the rich being super rich and the poor just dying. We stayed at The Royal Highness Hotel, don't be fooled, there was nothing Royal about it! The room was average, for Cambodia, aircon, TV with a clear reception, a first! The sheets had cigarette [View Full Entry]

All Templed Out..... Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap
Wow, 3 days visiting pretty much most of all the Anchor temples. We are now all templed out! Our driver, John was very good. He knew a lot about all the temples and the Cambodian way of life and was more than happy to help us learn. Linda was being a bit of a Indiana Jones, reading up on every temple before we got there and getting very involved in photographing the temples and all the fine carvings on all the walls. After seeing Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, you realise that the english actually are usless and have nothing to [View Full Entry]

What a night! We all went for dinner and ate like kings. The beer was $3 a jug, they were practically giving it away! So we ordered starters and mains. One of the starters was curry prawns and I ordered chicken curry. Anyway, all the food comes and a pot that looks like my chicken curry so I tuck in. Very tasty indeed. I had almost finished it when I tasted something that was not tasting like chicken. I am allergic to shell fish, like prawns. So I ask Linda to taste it, yip, it was prawns! Now I started to [View Full Entry]

Yes, we woke up alive. Very happy for that. Now we had a 7 hour boat ride over flooded land and floating villages. The boat was not what was on the picture, more like a long barge! Anyway, all part of the fun. We passed lots of villages which were floating and some floating shacks in the middle of nowhere, amazing how people live there. We stopped for lunch on a floating shop. Amazing toilets, a hole in the wood straight into the water. Yes, there were people swimming and fishing in it! Nice, we never ordered the fish of the [View Full Entry]
