Travel Blog Posts

Apologies once again for the long time since a travel blog has been published. I have a tale of woe!!! After heading to the 6 Nations England - Italy game in Rome, Big Red decided that she would start to weep oil from the dip stick tube. In Italy, I got a garage to change the oil and I don’t know exactly what grade they put in. They also fixed a leaking diesel injector and replaced the small tubes that link them. They cleaned around the injector with some spray and washed it down with water. The injector does not leak anymore. However, when the camper is under load (I drove over the mountains to Rome) the oil was leaking out of the dip stick tube. I thought this may be the wrong grade oil so ... read more

Merry Christmas Everyone!! Again it has been a while since I sent out a Travel Blog. I have been pretty busy in Italy helping my mate out re-wiring his house. I have also not had a good internet connection as all the free broadband hook ups are outside of the sticks where I am at the moment. I have got myself an Italian pay as you go card so I should be able to get internet connection for Christmas and say hello to you all - still some ‘t’s to cross on the Italian way of making things happen over here.. Since my last Travel blog, I have not been travelling as I am in a little village called Alanno near Pescara on the east coast of Italy. I will be here for over the Christmas ... read more

Hello everyone, I bet you thought I had dropped off the face of the planet. I think it has been a month since I last wrote a travelblog and I can not remember myself everything that has happened. Needless to say, the month has gone very fast and now I am trying to recap through my photos. After spending 2 nights in Andorra (fantastic mountains), I headed back to France; Carcasonne where there is a lovely fairy tale castle built on a hill. This one is a city in itself and is where Kevin Costner filmed ‘Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’. I then headed for Narbonne where there was a beach parking spec to spend the night. My old school mate was flying in to Montpellier early on 4th Oct so I headed up the coast ... read more

Hi everyone, Well as I said, time really does go fast when you are having fun, so I thought I would do an update of the France trip so far. I have attended all three England rugby games so far and hopefully they will make the quater finals in Marseille as I am heading down to the south of France. After completing a full circle in the North of France, popping into Stad de France in Paris and heading back to good old Blighty for a refresh of the roses (and sales team!), we then headed around the North coast to Mont Saint Micheal. A wonderful castle built on a rock out to sea. The west coast beckoned for the England Samoa game in Neimes. We fanally got tickets for 20 euros each (face value 65 ... read more

I can not believe that it is over one month since I wrote a travelblog. Time certainly has flown by and I am now finding it difficult to recap everything that has gone on. I though I had sent a blog in Lithuania, but I must be mistaken. Here goes anyway. Since leaving Parnu in Estonia I headed for Latvia where I and had read in my travel guide that a place called Sigulda was a beautiful place. My lucky stars once again blessed me as when I arrived I found that they were celebrating their 800 year anniversary of the town. There were several very large free concerts which were great. There was a fantastic fireworks display and lots of famous artists performed including Monica Mancini. I met up with a Latvian girl who was ... read more

Hi Everyone. Well after hot footing into UK for 1 and a half weeks I am back on the road. It really was a quick stop in the UK for a wedding and so my apologies to everyone I missed while I was there. However, my flight out of Stansted on the 6th Aug proved to be one of the hardest connections to make. Arriving in Heathrow from Beijing was just the start of the UK transport issues. I could not get off the first plane to get to my Manchester connection as they had only laid on 1 bus to the terminal for a 300 seater boeing 777. Assuming I would miss my Manchester flight (transfer time to terminal 1 from 4 is 75 mins minimum!) I rushed through passport control etc... only to find ... read more

Neehow Guys, Well what a journey. My Trans-Siberian trains have now come to an end. I only have another 7 days before flying back to England. Hopefully I will not be there for more than a week before setting off to rendezvous with Big Red. After a whirl wind tour of Ulan Ude where we met up with 4 very nice locals (thanks very much for the guided tour and hospitality!) , the next stop was the Russian Mongolia border. 8 hours of nothing happening certainly can be difficult to pass. Luckily the travel scrabble was out again and the master of creative wordsmithing came to the fore. Finally getting into Mongolia was like passing into a different galaxy. The scenery is spectacular. There are very few trees and the landscape looks as though it has ... read more

Hi everyone. I know its been a while since I gave an update, however, I am now officially in the middle of nowhere. It is going to be difficult to re-cap the last few weeks, but here goes. After leaving Rauma, we decided to take a detour to the Aland Islands (pronounced Orwland). The ferry trips were great and we saved 70 pounds by staying overnight. (Some sort of tourist bonus). It just so happened that the Island were Celebrating their independance on this day and so free concerts, tea and cakes were the order of the day. They even have their own flag! There are over 6000 islands here and they are just spectacular. Luckily, we managed to book a ferry from Aland to Turku in good time as all the ferries had been ... read more

Hi everyone. Thought I would take some time out of my travelling (as the temperature outside is scorching... it was 34 degrees C in the van this morning at 8.00am!) and write you all an update. Hopefully I can get some photos uploaded also. From Tromso I headed further North on the way to Nordkapp. The first stop was Hammerfest where the van required a little bit more TLC. After picking up my new water temperature sensor I noticed that the front wheels were virtually bear! It looked like the tracking was out. After taking it to a new tire stockist and replacing the 2 front tyres (another 180 quid!) they recommended a visit back to the VW garage for re-alignment. Oooops... they inspected the front alignment and showed me a calapsed joint on the ... read more
