Thought it was time for another Blog Entry. The main reason I haven't updated it sooner is because nothing much has happened since the last one. Other than having done another 100 dives. In the last six weeks, I have probably spent 3,5 weeks on the boat and the rest on land. Once I was on the boat for 13 nights in a row diving on average five dives per day. Two in the morning, two in the afternoon and 1 night dive. I have also started my divemaster training and although it was a slow start (mainly because I was on the boat diving so often) I have almost finished it now. Another week or so to go. About four weeks ago I started guiding dives, which is pretty much the only fun thing to ... read more

Whale sharks and Manta Rays?? In the last couple of weeks I have mainly spent time on the boat. I left on Thursday the 13th and set foot on land again 10 days later. I'm now approaching my 100th dive! During the 10 days on the boat, I finished the National Geographic Specialty which focuses on becoming more broadly aware of the underwater world and having a greater understanding of the underwater ecology/life. I also assisted another student diver with the practical sessions of his Search and Recovery specialty which included completing different underwater search patterns and lifting techniques using lift bags - was pretty interesting. Whilst on the boat a Manta Ray and a Whale Shark swam past the boat, which is a rarity. I've met people who have been diving for years and never ... read more

After a few days of living without my backpack and buying emergency stuff and wearing whatever I had on me in every way possible, my backpack finally arrived 5 days later with everything in it. So as promised in my last blog entry, I won't write so much and add some pictures instead. Two and a half week into my trip to Thailand I have spent most of my time on the M/V ScubaCat moored in Racha Yai island approximately 1,5 hours away from Phuket by boat. I have since my arrival logged 40 dives, completed my advanced Open Water course, Emergency First Response & Care for Children courses and the rescue course. As part of my advanced course we went down to a speedboat wreck where cleaner shrimps give you a manicure and we did ... read more

This'll be my first update on my travel blog since arriving in Phuket and I have decided to keep it short. Not because there isn't anything to write about, but mainly because I can't add any pictures. I love travelling, but I don't enjoy the actual air travel much - especially when it involves long cheap flights, long stopovers, long legs and no legroom. So leaving Papamoa (thanks for the ride David) around 1am Friday morning, we finally made it through Tauranga by 2am and arrived at the airport around 4am (I think). My flight left at 5.50am so there was plenty of time to kill listening to my tunes on my new Ipod. The flight left on-time and I arrived in Sydney. Another 6,5hrs wait ahead of me. Sydney airport is a pretty average airport ... read more
