November 1, 2009 My training is done. This Halloween I spent in the nicest bus I’d ever been in. Encased in air conditioning, the seats reclined all the way, a nice stewardess came by with blankets, snacks and drinks and I passed out in exhaustion. I arrived in Bangkok and found our hostel with some difficulty. The cab pulled up to the address and the only thing there was a gate and a sign that says M.D.C Recruitment Agency LDC. We eventually woke our friends up and learned that the guesthouse was not supposed to have opened yet but opened especially for us. October 25, 2009 Loy Krathong Upon awaking from my nap at 4:30pm my roommate told me everyone was going to an early Loy Krathong celebration. Loy Krathong, is the celebration of the water goddess. I knew only that something regarding lanterns was involved. I stumbled out the door in a bit of a haze knowing I should not miss it but still feeling the effects of the previous night’s shenanigans. So we all piled in a Sing Tao, a taxi van of sorts and went off to the festival which was about 20 kilometers out of town. Arriving we were a bit befuddled. October 18, 2009 We are quickly approaching my second week in Thailand. Strange how far removed I already feel from my life and yet how quickly time has passed. I have been thrown back into being a student for 3 short weeks to learn how to be a teacher. Crazy, considering the rigorous requirements back home to become a teacher, I wonder that anyone would allow us to teach their children. Here, teachers are respected, even revered. In the social classes of Thailand, the King and the Monks are pretty much on par at the top (though high monks are above the king), and next in the social hiearchy comes teachers.
