| 4th December 2006 Bon | Love the dog - From: Hippies, Roma, Gypsies...they're all in Granada Love that dog, yurs is a great big doll and we are really getting attached to him. There is no way Catfish would ev er follow on anyone's heels. One furry little animal would scurry by and he would be off and running. I can also see that guys in bands look the same the world over. Love ya. Bon |
| 2nd December 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Paella, Chatting and the Alhambra Mike and Kel, I really like the arch pictures (Granada and Palacio Nazare). They make the scenery look very special. I have heard questions referring to how you guys are financing this trip. I let people know that it is very simple. You guys put out a blog on a regular basis. Bloggers have $25 per month automatically withdrawn from their checking accounts. With 150 bloggers things are going famously. I also let them know you give a bonus of $25 to whoever recommends a new blogger. OOPS . . . Just kidding. We don’t want to go down to 2 bloggers overnight, John and Bonnie and Bruce and Leslie. =) |
| 1st December 2006 Scott Neilson | teaching American - From: Paella, Chatting and the Alhambra "teaching American" - how does one do that exactly? is it like an anti-Miss Manners class? |
| 30th November 2006 Marge | Kitty - From: Marbella, A Place for the Rich, the Famous . . . and Us! Hey, I want that kitty! Bring her/him home for me. Precious thing. |
| 30th November 2006 Judy Graham | Friend of John and Bonnie - From: Marbella, A Place for the Rich, the Famous . . . and Us! Your Dad sent me your blog info, and I have been following your travels. Your comments on Marbella makes me wish I could join you! Such a beautiful place! My aunt lived in Spain for two years when her husband was in the Navy. I wish now I had taken the opportunity to visit for a month when she extended the invitation many years ago. I am looking forward to your next journal entry! |
| 30th November 2006 Deb Hazelwood | I am mesmerized.... - From: The Sort of Days That I Live for Kelley, I met you for such a brief time when I worked with you on the new payments products (but enough about work)... I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying reading your blog! I am a huge news hound, but night after night when I come home, I jump on your site and read about what you two are doing---without paying any attention to the nightly news! I find it amazing that you two are so willing to take the time to share your experiences! I went to Spain in 1991 ( yes, I am ancient) and found the place and the people absolutely marvelous! Glad that you found cafe con leche---it doesn't get much better than that! Keep those cards and letters coming.... THANK YOU, deb |
| 28th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: The Sort of Days That I Live for Kel and Mike, The hill towns look really pretty and the olive oil factory sounds fascinating. In one of your previous blogs someone referred to me as Bruce/Daddy. I realized in reading it that it would be a cool name, Bruce Daddy. It sounds like a name for a football player or a rock star. After doing a marketing survey (1 person, Leslie) and some major soul searching I decided not to use the moniker. However, I do like Bruce Daddy. |
| 28th November 2006 Tim K | - From: Happy Thanksgiving World Wow...absolutely beautify. I'm jealous! |
| 28th November 2006 Beth | wow, so wonderful - From: The Sort of Days That I Live for this leg of your trip looks so wonderful! The towns are gorgeous with the white stacking of buildings...makes us all salivate back in the USA, with our suburbia and lack of design.... While you are there, try the raisins and let me know if they are amazing. When Bruce and I were just in France in October, I fell in love with the raisins. They were very moist and succulent, and tasted nothing like ours at home. It was as if they were just off the vine ( which they probably were, as they vine dry them there) and so fresh. Hope you can find some for a real treat. I imagine they would be similar there. love, Beth |
| 27th November 2006 Haines | Driving - From: Arcos to Gibralter and Back It looks like they drive on the right side of the road (literally & figuratively). Does it switch sides within the same country? |
| 27th November 2006 laura white | keep writing - From: Happy Thanksgiving World I have come to look forward to reading about your adventures each day. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. Keep the stories coming! Have fun and safe travels. Laura |
| 27th November 2006 Haines | - From: A Spontaneous End to a Plodding Sort of Day Thanks for the shoutout! Sounds like you're finding the perfect activities that couldn't have been planned any better. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! |
| 26th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Happy Thanksgiving World Kel and Mike, I really liked your bull personifications; you guys aren’t scary but you are fun! |
| 24th November 2006 Laura Walger | Happy Thanksgiving! - From: A Spontaneous End to a Plodding Sort of Day Hi guys- I hope you were able to find a great place to celebrate the day. Maybe no turkey but in Spain with all the amazing choices who cares! Also, be happy you have missed the TV ad's Walmart is running now- open at 5am so shoppers can start the mass buying spree. I'm sure there will be something on cnn about a shopper trampled to death in a mad rush for the latest x-box or $49 laptop! The pics are beautiful and the stories are very entertaining! |
| 24th November 2006 Laura Walger | - From: Good Days and Bad News in Lagos The pics of the grottoes are amazing. Lagos looks like a beautiful place to hang out for a couple of extra days so you have zero sympathy from me for being stuck! take care guys! |
| 24th November 2006 Laura Walger | - From: Good Food and Rainy Days in Evora I have to 2nd Bruce/Daddy's comments. Even after eating T-Day leftovers and I'm still stuffed reading about the dinner made me wish I had something yummy & fun like that to eat! Glad you guys are having so many adventures! |
| 24th November 2006 Laura Walger | Barber of Seville - From: The Last Days in Lisbon the reason you got the haircut in Lisbon ;) |
| 24th November 2006 Linda and Al | We love reading about your adventures - From: Happy Thanksgiving World Kelley and Mike, Thank you for sharing your fantastic travel experiences with us. It is truly a treat. Don't forget about California as you are navigating the world. We'd love to have you spend time with us. Love, Linda and Al |
| 24th November 2006 Beth | look slike fun! - From: Happy Thanksgiving World Seems like you guys are having a great time. I loved the 'bull' pictures! (el toro) And I can imagine that El Alcazar is amazing. I love always getting your pictures. Makes me drool with envy! Glad your computer glitch is better. love, beth |
| 24th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: A Spontaneous End to a Plodding Sort of Day Mike and Kel, This note is especially to Mike. It's been good to see that your musical interests are not being stymied on your trip. I noticed that you were playing guitar on stage at Lazy Jacks in Lagos. Then it looks like you guys really enjoyed the brass band in Sevilla. I’m guessing this will continue wherever you go. |
| 23rd November 2006 Beth Shadur | whoops - From: A Spontaneous End to a Plodding Sort of Day Hi guys: Have a great thanksgiving! I especially loved the mural! Meanwhile, your blog messages came through about 30 times. Not sure what glitch is in the system, but I am still receiving it....over and over again. Yikes! Maybe you can notify the system somehow. thanks, beth |
| 23rd November 2006 Katie | Happy Thanksgiving - From: A Spontaneous End to a Plodding Sort of Day Congrats on your safe arrival in Sevilla. I completely agree with your comment that a little planning and research go a long way to making a trip more enjoyable. I remember travelling with a friend and looking at each other ("What do you want to do?" "I dunno, how about you?") and getting trapped in a state of complete inertia. Arghhhh. We're very happy to be home this Thanksgiving. Last year we were sitting in a hotel room in China, admiring our new little daughter that we had just met. During her nap, we huddled up in the bathroom to call home and eat some weird Chinese food as our Thanksgiving feast (it was knuckle of something in a broth...far cry from turkey and cranberries). Enjoy your memorable Thanksgiving away from home - cheers to both of you on your big adventure! |
| 22nd November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | Carriage Ride in Sevilla - From: Cathedral and Carriage Ride in Sevilla Mike and Kel, It was fascinating to hear how much you guys enjoyed the carriage ride, especially Kel. I thought of three possibilities when you get back. 1. Spend your vacations with the Amish people. You could ride in their carriages all day long. 2. You guys have been looking for a business opportunity. Carriage rides around Richmond could be a big money maker. 3. You could go all out and do what bikers and runners and walkers sometimes do. Carriage ride from the Atlantic to the Pacific. It may be a first. No matter what, carriage riding would certainly give you plenty of time to ‘horse around’. |
| 21st November 2006 Sticks Hicks | The Universal language - From: A New Country and City Await I was wondering how well you would manage away from the guitbox. That was one of my favorite things on the road in Europe - sitting in with the locals. Music is meant to share. Thanks Kel for the pics! |
| 20th November 2006 Haines | - From: Sunny Lagos Days It looks like a lot of stuff is in English over there. Interesting. Do the areas you stay in rely on english speaking tourism heavily? |
| 20th November 2006 Traci Kipers | Having a great day...right - From: Port Towns Get Tons of Rain Hmmm...as I prepare for Monday back at the office I am forced to compare your day to mine. You'll wake up around 10. I'll wake up at 5:30, to leave home by 6:30 so I can get a good parking space on campus since they destroyed everything but the front row to make the parking deck (which will be done in APRIL). You'll grab a leasurely coffee at a local cafe. I'll rush into Future-of-Work land so that I can get a desk before we run out of tables. You'll drink beer in the early afternoon - and I'll curse you, ALL DAY LONG~ Seriously, I'm thrilled y'all are having a good time and I'm green with jealousy!! |
| 19th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Sunny Lagos Days Kel and Mike, Kel, your seafaring experiences from Cape Cod and your New Hampshire mountain climbing trips have prepared you well for your activities in Lagos. I'm impressed with the adventurous spirit you and Mike have brought with you on your world trip. It’s fun for you and fun for others to read about. If you need any other climbing equipment let us know; EMS is great for that. We look forward to hearing all about Spain. |
| 18th November 2006 Marge Mack | Very interesting - From: Good Days and Bad News in Lagos Am enjoying your diary. I'm not able to receive the messages on my email (probably don't have newest technology), but I just go to the original blog address and get your most recent report there. God bless you and keep you well and happy. Having Dawn's birthday dinner on Sunday here (just 6 of us) and then Thanksgiving on Thurs. at Dawn's. Remember last Thanksgiving? That was a strange one! Good thing we planned on eating out or we would not have had a Thanksgiving dinner. Ha. It would have helped the waistline. What happens to "you guys" on Thanksgiving? Probably a bowl of soup. Love ya. |
| 18th November 2006 Caroline Oakes | Friend of your dad and mom - From: Emotions Run Deep and Strong I enjoyed your write up. I admire your courage to step out there and undertake this "great adventure". I think you are seizing a wonderful opportunity. I am 45 and wished I had done something like this. I am glad I can live vicariously through your travel blog. |
| 18th November 2006 John T | Miss you for birthday cake! - From: Good Days and Bad News in Lagos Thanks for the Birthday wishes. We are having a nice dinner at Morton's Steakhouse and Bon will have a Cosmo in you honor. Stay safe and be well. Enjoy a couple of days or relaxation. We love you. Bon & John |
| 17th November 2006 TeamTurner | HAHAHAHAHA - From: Lagos Here We Come You are ABSOLUTELY hilarious! Definitely the frontrunner for Commentator o' the Year |
| 17th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Lagos Here We Come Kel and Mike, It appears like the situation you were in with the hostel owner was not desirable. I then began to think of ways you could avoid such uncomfortable situations in the future. 1. Ask the person if they would like to try on your backpack to see how comfortable it is. They’ll probably end the whole thing at that point. 2. Take the pack off your back and by mistake set it on the person’s foot. That should definitely speed things up. 3. Fall over backwards from the weight of the pack and knock over a lamp or some other piece of furniture. This should produce immediate results. |
| 15th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Good Food and Rainy Days in Evora Kel and Mike, I've become increasingly aware of only one problem I have in reading the blogs. When I hear about all the great food you guys are enjoying it immediatley makes me hungry. I am then tempted to run to the kitchen and look for whatever goodies I can find. I think it is very possible that by the end of this trip you guys will be thinner and I'll be heavier. Oh well, it's all good. |
| 15th November 2006 Lorien | zoo - From: The Last Days in Lisbon I am so glad you shared the pictures from the zoo. The giraffe, of course, brings a huge smile to my face. I love it! I'm glad you are having fun! Take care! |
| 14th November 2006 Leigh K (not C) | Glad you liked it!!! - From: Carrying a Pack is Economical but less than Fun I'm glad you tried the wine and love hearing the effect it had. My job is done here. |
| 14th November 2006 Leigh | NO PICS OF TIGERS??? - From: The Last Days in Lisbon Tigers are my favorite animal and I must say I was quite disappointed that no pictures were posted of them. Okay, enough of constructive feedback...glad you guys enjoyed your Lisbon time and go Kel on the hike (previous journal)! |
| 14th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: The Last Days in Lisbon Kel and Mike, I certainly enjoyed the presentation of your trip to the zoo as I would find that interesting as well. I noticed that you featured a giraffe's tongue, a camel's toe, and an elephant's tail. I wondered whether I could fit all three of those into a sentence. The best I could come up with was, "Mike tells a 'tale' with his 'tongue' each day (blog) which makes everybody who reads it happy from head to 'toe'. |
| 13th November 2006 L&D | no halbo portuguesa - From: The Last Days in Lisbon but I do speak jive. Wassup peeps! Congrats on finding your reincarnation species. If you run in to an aye-aye, then you've found mine (closely followed by the north american lazy photographer). Get ready to practice your lisp. |
| 13th November 2006 Katie | Cool monkeys - From: The Last Days in Lisbon What cool monkeys! I may have to let my little Claire-monkey hop online with me to take a look. Hope the travel connections go great and look forward to hearing about the sleepier side of Portugal. |
| 13th November 2006 Lorien | tracking anklet - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon I am sitting in one of those standard 4pm meetings at Cap1...i laughed out loud about the pigion. I am so glad you are having fun! I will live vicariously. Cheers! |
| 13th November 2006 Mike Noland | hello - From: Hiking to Castles: An Adventure in Sintra Just wanted to say hey and let you guys know I enjoy everybit of the blog. Have fun! |
| 13th November 2006 haines | Is that Bo? - From: Tejo, Kazoo & Poo Poo...They All Sound The Same Is that a Bojangles ham biscuit? Wow, Europe is my kind of place! |
| 12th November 2006 Laura Walger | - From: Hiking to Castles: An Adventure in Sintra There will be no booty-licious Kel left with all the walking you guys are doing! It sounds way better than a stair master could ever be! |
| 12th November 2006 Laura Walger | - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon yep, Allen was actually "graceful" in his defeat. No recount! My brokers in FL were all so disappointed that VA couldn't take the spotlight this year and be the place for election mayhem! |
| 12th November 2006 Laura Walger | love Rick Steves! - From: And it all begins.... How funny, I just finished watching the Rick Steves show on PBS- I LOVE HIM! I'm so happy that you guys are having a good time and things are going well. We miss already miss you guys and no there is no "bun in the oven" ! |
| 12th November 2006 Bruce / Daddy | - From: Hiking to Castles: An Adventure in Sintra Kel, It sounds like you and Mike did a terrific job climbing to the castle. 2.5 miles uphill is a really good physical accomplishment. Who knows what opportunities you guys may have when you return in world class condition. The olympics might be a bit of a stretch. Love, Bruce / Daddy |
| 10th November 2006 Schiller | power bars - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon If you are going to keep moving at this pace you are going to need to find some of those super high calorie snacks to keep handy. I am reading too many action verbs and too little of comments like, "We sat at the cafe for the afternoon and watched the passerby." Glad you all are well. |
| 10th November 2006 Katie | - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon May your days continue to be exciting and your nights restful, until you catch up on your jet lag that is. I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. Look forward to more updates. |
| 10th November 2006 Rebecca | - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon It's clear you're having a great time! Thanks for taking us on your journey. =) |
| 9th November 2006 Leslie | - From: Climbing the steps to the top of Lisbon Kel and Mike, First of all, it was such a blessing to spend the last couple days with you both and then to see you off at the airport. You guys looked so adorable with your backpacks on, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready and excited to take on whatever this trip has in store. Secondly, Mike, thank you so-o much for taking the time to fill us all in on your adventures and for posting the photos which enable the rest of us to travel along with you. I'm delighted to see that you both look rested, relaxed and from the sound of things are enjoying yourselves immensely. It was quite observant of you to notice the rogue pigeon. Keep up the good work. Thirdly, Kel, thanks heaps for calling. Just hearing your happy, delightful voice on the answering machine makes me feel all better. =) You’re the best! Love ya like crazy, Leslie / Mom |
