Apologies for the shortness of this message however I am buggered and its nearly time to head home. Arrived in Franfurt late yesterday after a huge day on the road seeing lots of motorways - not very exciting but managed to pass the time by listening to oom pa music when we reached germany. Actually the radio stations were pretty good and an italian staion was playing little birdy and some other Aussie music. We were very dissapointed not to hear any David Hasslehoff. We had a meal near our campground which consisted of a schnitzel the size of an amphibious landing craft and a mountain of pomme frits washed down with a few stiens of beer the size of a large watering can. No wonder we have seen so many lard arses here in Frankfurt. ... read more

Tour Update July 24th Apologies if I cover some ground I have already gone over in brief detail in the last couple of blogs however this is the first chance I have had for a while to do a decent update. My last detailed blog saw us in the Pyrenees at Luz St Sauvier. We packed up the vans and headed (in various directions due to tom tom programming and dodgy navigation) for Carcassonne, a medieval walled city in central southern France. Some went back up over the Tormalet riding parts of it and the Aspin on the way . Carcassonne was fine but like many well visited tourist haunts, it had lost some of its magic to tacky tourist shops and loud American tourists. Having said that it was still a pretty awesome place with ... read more

Alp D'Huez Wow - I am sitting at the top of Alp D'Huez after riding up this morning. We just met with ·Phil Liggett and got our photo taken with him, he signed our jerseys and we presented him with one of his own! Phil loved it. All having a great time and we will be about 3 kms from the finish at Alp D'Huez yelling like hell for cadel. Heaps of Aussies here and cadel cadel cadel painted all over the road. Its wild up here in the village - thousands of people and a real party atmosphere. The dutch take over the mountain and they are everywhere - they even have their own radio station set up on turn 7. Lots of tales to tell and pics to add when I next get ... read more

Hi All, just a quick update on our travels following the tour. We spent yesterday in Carcossone checking out la cite and this morning on to Provence to see the tour wizz thru. We got stuck in a bit of traffic and then had a hard &é km ride over the luberon range to Bonnieux a great hill town that I visited with my family in 2002. Unfortuaely we missed the riders by 5 mins _ bugger. Just having a cooling drink in the local bar before a lap around town and then on to the Alps and Alp Huez as our base for the next week. Will fill in te gaps and add some more pics soon. Thanks for all your comments and feedback. R... read more

Week one of the tour down - two more to go. Anthony and I flew out of Perth at 6am Wednesday 9th July and after a longish flight landed weary but well in Dubai. It was hot! 42 degrees and humid as hell. Luckily we only had a short stop before boarding another flight to Frankfurt. Kindly the Emirates check in staff at Perth had slugged us for excess baggage as with our bikes etc it was hard to make the limit even with limited clothing! We were then thrilled to discover about 10kgs of crap magazines in every seat pocket and the flight from Dubai to Frankfurt mostly empty. The upside of this was I could stretch out over 4 seats and have a sleep for most of the 6 hours. Frankfurt was our van ... read more

Le tour begins Well we are here safely in Frankfurt after a marathon plane journey via Dubai. My travel partner - Anthony Dean and I managed to stay sane, and relatively fit after the two flights. Perth to Dubai was 11.5 hours on a seat designed by Boral Concrete - mmmm very comfy. Kept sane by a huge selection of entertainment and crying children. By the end I must have been flagging as I found Dodgeball hilarious! Dubai was hot - 40+ and humid - Ahhh - glad we were just passing thru. Dubai - frankfurt was good with few people on the flight I stretched out over four seats and had a kip. Last night stayed at an airport hotel and caught up on sleep. Last nights meal was an interesting intro to Germany. ... read more
