After our overnight in Jujuy we woke up early, grabbed our laundry and mad a 2 hour drive to Salta. We dropped off our rental car at the airport and took a short flight to Buenos Aires. I accidentally forgot that I had my pocket knife in my check on and got caught with it. This knife is a stainless steel swiss army knife. It was my wedding gift from Mark and engraved with my name and our wedding date. It cost $300. Would you believe that I also got Mark a knife as a wedding gift; he collects big knives [View Full Entry]

Vomit South America
Yesterday morning in Salta was actually quite enjoyable. while we waited for our laundry we had time to visit 2 small museums, the museum of anthropology which was very interesting and the archaeology museum which houses 2 mummified inca children. fascinating stuff. it was my luck that it was free day at the museum so we saved about $15 entrance fee. we then hit the road north. the road north to the province of jujuy is one lane. if you are picturing one lane going south and another going north then i have led you astray in thinking this. visualize one [View Full Entry]

2 days ago we awoke in cafayate and decided to spend about an hour touring the souvenir shops in the town square. every town in argentina has a town square, even the very tiny villages and all are named after dates i.e. 2 may square etc. whenever we find ourselves arriving in a new town we always find the square first and then move onwards and outwards from there. typically these squares are filled with stray dogs, lots of birds, couples and families enjoying the outdoors. they have been a great spot to let malaya run wild since there is no [View Full Entry]

Road trip South America » Argentina
Greetings from Cafayate, in the northern province of Salta. I am very sorry i have no photos to upload for you today. Today i took over 100 spectacular photos but alas the computer at our hotel has a floppy disk drive and no usb port. maybe next time i can go back and add. this morning we checked out of our dogdy youth hostel room and got our rental car. we hit the road south taking a route completely unknown to us. we had an amazing road trip today. it was awesome. the scenery here is breathtaking. we drove though the [View Full Entry]

the past few days have been quiet and relaxing. 2 days ago i went alone into town to make phone calls and stock up on groceries again, then spent the afternoon packing and watching old movies on t.v. yesterday we flew from bariloche to salta. all flights in argentina connect via buenos aires so we had 2 flights, about 2 hours each yesterday. malaya was good with the travel this time although she only got a 15 minute nap and was a touch cranky. she did fall asleep in the cab on the way to the airport but it was so [View Full Entry]

yesterday afternoon we were back to our room for nap time. after that we took a bus into the city centre and went shopping. patigonia, and particularly bariloche is famous here for chocolates. we went to 3 different chocolate shops and purchased a box of chocolates and some chocolate beer. malaya loved the free samples and the shop workers loved to keep giving her more chocolate. we walked up many hills and stairs with a stroller, carrying malaya, carrying a diaper bag and camera bag. i would say we definately worked off the chocolate and then some. we found a toy [View Full Entry]

After staying in bed nearly a full day and doing nothing but watch the sole english chanel in argentina <woo hoo 90210 reruns) we decided to book some day tours and get out and see bariloche. it is beautiful here. the scenery is spectacular. on our first day of guided tours we took a bus, then a boat to Victoria island which is a national park. we took a short walk with the stroller but could not venture out on most paths. malaya had to fall asleep in the stroller and it was so cold and snowy outside. we bundled her [View Full Entry]

hola from san carlos de bariloche 2 days ago we flew out of buenos aires. silly me didn´t realize there are 2 airports in b.a. and we went to the wrong airport. it costs us 80 in taxi fares to cross the city twice. luckily it was no charge to switch to a later flight. yesterday was pretty much a travel day. we got to bariloche around 3 p.m. and spent the evening unpacking at our very nice time share. we also walked to the grocery store and stocked up for the week. i was very very happy to cook on [View Full Entry]

<today malaya and i ventured out again just the two of us while mark rested in bed. his fever broke in the night and he is feeling a bit better. he slept most of the morning, part of the afternoon and after being up for a few hours he is back in bed by 730 p.m. what a trooper. <i decided to go to the famous recoleta cemetary. it is far from my hotel so i asked the hostel staff directions on how to get there by public transit. you cannot take a stroller on a bus so i had my [View Full Entry]

<hello again from buenos aires. this morning team condron took a guided city tour. it was scheduled to be from 9 a.m. to noon but it took until 1030 am to pick up everyone at their respective hotels and we didnt get back to our hotel until nearly 3 pm. we are getting better at adapting malayas schedule. malaya had a very short nap in my arms on the bus and since there was no lunch stop i had nuts from a street vendor. holding malaya in my arms on a full bus for 6 hours gave me flashbacks to the [View Full Entry]
