Well, for the past few days we have been exploring the beautiful and spotless city of Singapore! What astonishes both of us is that over 4,000,000 people live hear, all from various ethinic groups (its extremely multi-cultural), yet the roads are so well maintained, the cities barely have any little at all, and the streets and buildings appear carefully placed amongst a city of trees! You wouldn't relaize that this gorgeous city is home to so many people! The architecture hear of some of the buildings is amazing and the Chinatown and Little India are like hot spots of shopping and [View Full Entry]

After climbing Mount Kinabalu, we decided to head for some relaxation at the Poring Hot Springs, approximately an hour or so away from Kinabalu National Park. Sofia and Phillip, our Swedish companions, were lucky to be able to book a room at Poring last minute and after we all piled into a taxi and took a gorgeous drive through what seemed like the Borneo foothills, we arrived at Poring Hot Springs park, which was quite different than what any of us expected. We were greeted by the parks rangers who are all nicely dressed beautiful women (must be a hiring prerequisite [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone, we have been having a great time in Sabah and the weather has been outstanding ... even the locals that we meet tell us how lucky we have been! When we first arrived in Kota Kinabalu (KK), we immediately set-up a trip to Mount Kinabalu and the Poring Hot Springs. We spent a few days relaxing in the bustling provincial capital of KK, where we took in some pre-festivities to the approaching Chinese New Year, shopped around the Filipino market, and finally met Jennee, a friend of a former collague who has been our personal tour guide for KK! We Dive at Five!!! Asia » Malaysia » Sabah
And at every other time of the day with the Borneo Divers Mabul Resort, where we have been staying for the past few nights. The resort is incredible ... to give you an idea, we have not worn footwear, except for our diving fins, since we have arrived. We literally walk around the small Mabul island that the resort is located on to the dive shop, boat, our chalet style room, the beach, the pool, or to the dining area, which is the best damn grub we have had all trip (yes, it has gotten better with time; but mainly because [View Full Entry]

River Cruising! Asia » Malaysia » Sabah
So we just arrived in Semporna after spending two nights and three beautiful days in Sukau at the Sukau Tomanggong Riverview Lodge. On the afternoon of our arrival we had a gorgeous river ride down the Kinabatang River. This is the longest river in Sabah, 560km, and we saw two wild Orangutan, the first of which was a stone's throw from our accomodation. It was amazing to watch it swinging through the trees and trying to use its own momentum to reach a tree that he had built his nest in the night before (yes, Orangutans are the only mammals that [View Full Entry]

Turtle Time!!! Asia » Malaysia » Sabah
We have just returned from a one-hour boat ride from Turtle Island and our 4x4 driver is catching a bite to eat before we depart for the Kinabatang river, supposedly one of the best places to see wildlife in Borneo (to be honest, we don't know how it could get any better, but we shall see!). Yesterday was a fantastic day! We departed for the the turle islands (there are actually three of them but only one has accomodation on it) in the morning. We spent the day eating, drinking, snorkelling, and chilling out on the beautiful beach, which was kind [View Full Entry]

It has been two days since we last wrote and a lot has happened and today, we may have hit the highlight of our trip thus far! We all gorged ourselves on a feast of wild boar meat, fried rice, and other local delights compliments of Daniel and his son who was the chef at Daniel's Corner. Jon survived his indulging in trying the local brew, tobacco, and taste of some delacacy in Belaga of cooked "rotten fish". It was unfortunate that we didn't plan on spending more time with Daniel and his crew, but with only a week left in [View Full Entry]

By the subject line of the title, you should have been able to figure out where we have been lately. This place was absolutely amazing. We have never known what its ever felt like to be royalty, but we were certainly treated as such from the minute we were picked up in Kapit from our hotel by small motorboat. We were greeted with glasses of rice wine and cold towels and a bunch of smiling faces and quickly learned that we were the only four guests at the resort at this time. The grounds were plunked in middle of the jungle [View Full Entry]

Well, we have been traveling up the Batang Rejang river all day and are hungry and thirsty for a cold beer so this will be a quickie. We left Kuching after an awesome evening of walking the waterfront and eating ice cream for a quarter a cone ... oh, and of course, chocolate cake and peanut butter cheesecake at a knockoff Starbucks. We went on two boats today, the first getting us across a small portion of the South China Sea to Sibu, and the second taking us a long way upriver where there is an incredible amount of logging industry [View Full Entry]

Well, its been a long time since we last wrote and tons has happened. Much too much to write about, but we'll hit the highlights. The good news is we have our backpacks ... yes, both of them ... it was an ordeal getting them but they are safe and sound as are we all in the group. We spent a day touring Kuching, mainly shopping, but the highlight was all four of us getting full body, one hour massages for equivalent to $40 Canadian (for all of us!). Jon was a little worried coming out of his massage because he [View Full Entry]
