I'm Chris, 26 years old and about to travel around New Zealand with my wife Helena, on bicycles. Helena is 25 and looking to find some places to have a go at kite surfing, we both plan to relax and explore.

This is our online blog for friends and family.

Well that's all folks! We have now returned to Auckland and we fly home tonight, hopefully arriving Friday morning in the UK. In the last few days we drove up to Orewa before returning the car. At Orewa we wandered by the ocean along the beach and soaked up the last of sunny NZ. Helena also played with her kite (i'll leave her to explain), before we arrived back in Auckland yesterday. To say the least this trip has been special, magnificent and awe inspiring. We wouldn't of done it any other way in the end; for all the ups and downs. I have discovered I love surfing and will be looking into this on return to the UK, we have seen amazing sights from mountains to oceans, whales, waterfalls and glaciers. As well as meeting ... read more

Helllloooo Only a few days to go.... We have been busy since Waihi and seeing the olds, we headed from Waihi to Raglan, which is home of some big surf. When we arrived, low and behold, there were kites out. The worst bit being that the current was really fierce (those damn currants) and there are plenty of rips. So... I had to leave it on this occassion. Had wicked time there though, Raglan nice little surf town. We then headed down to Waitomo (this is to be said in very serious deep voice - as this is how it was repeatedly pronounced during a museum video on the area) where we saw aractnacampa lumineso - more commonly known as... glow worms. Obviously we were too tight to pay to go into the glow worm caves ... read more

Howdy all! Just thought we should let you all know what we've been up too lately - - - - apart from being wonderfully lazy, reading on the beach! Here is where we have been since last time...... We made it too Opatiki, where the Pacafic Ocean was blue and calm, the sun hot and barmy. This was a happy change from the churning and rugged west coast at New Plymouth. After lazing there for a while we journeyed up the coast to Papamoa and surfed next to the mile after mile of blond sand, in metre high waves and under blue sky. Whilst there we explored several "Pa" (which are the equvilent of our stone age hill forts, yet only a few centuries old dating from the 18th and 19th centuries and maori civilisation), had ... read more

Just a quick note (to keep you all up too date back home in blighty!) We have now left New Plymouth and are heading to Opatiki (which is on the East Coast) and the Bay of Plenty. The weather on the west coast has been blowing a gale recently, whipping up the tasman sea , which has made surfing and kite-surfing nigh on impossible. Instead we have been trapping (walking) up Mt Taranaki/Egmont the local regional park and mountain - where I can report; we saw snow and were pelted with hail stones! (before the sun came out) However, the weather has now improved and I can once again say we have fine sunshine - (I am sitting here in short sleeved shirt and shorts, with a clear blue sky outside) - and a sun hot ... read more

Hello Hope you all have had a fantastic tummy filled Christmas!! We had a super Christmas and Boxing Day (after feeling a little homesick on Christmas eve seeing everybody doing all there christmas shopping). We ended up having a bbq with a German guy camping next to us - steak and lamb if your interested, with just a little champagne and beer for Chris. During which Chris sustained a small injury, a nasty split on his lip which is currently healing. Now, I hear you ask, 'how did Chris do this to himself?' I am going to give you 3 options, and you can decide which sounds most likely for Chris... a) he got into a fight b) surfing accident c) ran into a washing line Boxing day was wonderful sunshine and we went to the ... read more

Happy Christmas!!!!! We are now in New Plymouth enjoying the sun, sea and surf - where we plan to be over the Christmas period. Since last we added an entry, we have travelled from Kaikoura to Nelson to Picton to Wellington to here! (as you can see, we're still clocking up the miles!) Just outside Kaikoura we had a great time surfing, finally got up on the board - before falling in the water again! Had a great time though, just practicing and playing. We returned to Nelson, where we have visited before - as it was such a lovelly town and beach. Helena was able to have perfect conditions for her kite surfing and got out most of the days we were there - she was able to practice and, has come on in leaps ... read more

Chris is on the phone at the moment, talking to mummy and daddy Targett. As as we all know, once the Targetts start talking......., well lets just say I have some time to kill. Shopping is one option, but I am sat in an internet cafe (why they are called this I don't know, because there sure ain't no cafe, just lots of computers) babysitting a computer which chris has started to write e-mails on. Anyway... I am sorry that you are jealous, benny and l. It must be tough going to work in the grey wetness of home, receiving little blog updates saying how nice the weather is, what fun we are having, and what we have done whilst you have been at work. I am really really sorry. Petch, I couldn't smell the chocolate ... read more

Howdy folks! Here's a wonky picture of us right this second, as we type this entry! As you can see we are tired from lots of travelling! Helena shall fill you all in with our travels so far.....i'm off to have a nap in the sunshine! ....lots of love Chris xx :-) Hello!!! Firstly a bit of honesty - Chris is off to have a beer in the sun. We are now in Dunedin, a fine town with many splendid tourist attractions. I have spent the whole morning in one in fact - the Cadbury Factory. It was heaven, as the doors part you are welcomed by the sight of a crunchie mountain. Once inside you are given a bag which you fill with samples along the tour, you also get to see a chocolate waterfall ... read more

Greetings and salutations to one and all! We have now arrived in Christchurch, after visiting Kaikoura and seeing whales from an areoplane (wonderful!) and clambering up a local mountain in the Kaikoura seaward ranges, up to 1500m (called Mt Fyffe), with much spluttering as we walked up through the clouds and overcast grey sky, to find stunning blue sky (see South Island gallery) and strong winds! Life continues to be good, as we currently explore the pretty centre of Christchurch city. The weather is mainly fine, with odd days of cloudyness. Before I forget, I would just like to thank a couple of people for some outstanding gadgets we were given before we left - as we have been using them most days out here! - The Kinetic torch and Leatherman tools, a great MP3 player ... read more

Well hello to ya all out there! Since last we wrote, we have travelled to South Island - up the north coast to Nelson and the Golden Bay, chilled out at Rabbit Island, played with Helena's big kite; which suffered a puncture or two after dragging Helena accross the beach (luckily Mrs Targett was ok and Mr Targett (whoever he is!) was able to repair the kite. Basically the Sun has been out most days, the weather hitting a tasty 20 degrees or so and bringing us both out in a case of smiles and tan lines. We are now at Blenheim (east coast) and plan to head along this for more fun with maybe a bit of surfing (I need the practice!) and lazing around. I will leave Helena to tell you about some of ... read more
