re:Wow!
thanks! hopefully I'll get some up here soon... but it's hard to capture it all in a photo... you'll just have to come visit me here! I'll try to put together some pics of the view and town and whatnot though so people can get an idea of what it's like here. eeew slush and snow? >.< it's pretty cold here in the mornings and nights and thats about all the cold I can handle... i feel very glad i'm in the desert when i see the words "cold" and "damp"! hugs back to you and Stian! :) p.s. I'm serious about visiting me here if you happen to venture north!

statue
For those who don't want to go to the web page, this is the story of the angel and lion statue: The monument to Italian-Chilean friendship, in the Plaza Italia, dates from 1910. The work of Italian sculptor Roberto Negri, the statue of an angel on foot lifts a torch symbolising the future, the lion represents the Chilean people breaking the chains to achieve independence.

Wow!
Nice Tammy! What a cool house, would be great to see more pics of the view you describe too (hint hint)....:0) I'm in Punta Arenas right now, quite the opposite of desert, lots of slush and snow and really cold and damp......Stian and I both send hugs!

little rooms and trees
yes actually I´m a bit worried about that, because I´m getting very used to the HUGE open sky here... especially at night, its incredible... you feel like you can see every single star! I´m going to feel so boxed in under trees and what not when i come home!

Statue of Lion and Angel
I didn't think the statue sounded like Roman mythology – they don't really do angels – and I couldn't find any likely hits when I started googling mythology and whatnot... but Mom started googling the statue itself, and came up with this page: http://gosouthamerica.about.com/library/blfisk15kmhistoria42.htm (for English speakers, there's a translation of the important bits at the bottom – the second paragraph below the photo) Tam, you might be interested to know that while the above page was the first thing that came up with a search of "lion angel statue santiago chile," the second was your blog.

nice house!
It's great to see where you are living... I like having those pictures in my head when I think about you now! Looks very open and bright and airy - you will feel claustrophobic when you get home to small rooms and trees! And rain. Just had a little thunderstorm and downpour... it just stopped, now everything is cooler and greener and drippy.

more about Bon Voyage
Folks should feel free to just stop by and give Tammy a quick hug or hang out at our house (4-6pm) or at Chapaquoit Beach for the duration. We'll have snacks and stuff to drink at the house. Bring your own, if you want to have a sunset picnic at the beach. We can give people a ride from our house to the beach, if needed. If you want to bring a picture or a note to put in Tammy's album that would be great. Especially good are pictures of yourselves (so Tam will remember us all!) and pictures of familiar places for her to show her host family and new Chilean friends! Hope to see you Sunday!
