hi from uganda!! am having the best time here so far, this country is amazing! we finally arrived yesterday afternoon, after a day in dubai. to sum up dubai in a word, it was HOT! we arrived at around 3.30am, to 33 degree heat and approximately 110% humidity...you could basically feel the sweat forming the second you stepped off the plane! we got to our hotel about 5am, got settled in and had brekkie at 7. cos none of us had slept much on the flight it already felt like about 3pm so it was a really long day! we were [View Full Entry]

hello! writing to you from beautiful florence, or firenze as it's called here. almost every city is called by an italian name which makes for a confusing time. we have seen a fair bit of italy in a very short time, doing a whirlwind tour of the country. we spent a day in rome, which was fairly disastrous (see previous entry), but quickly moved onto venezia (vencie), where we unknowingly arrived on the first night of carnevale. it was a bit freaky to see ppl dressed like the bad guy off v for vendetta... cool atmosphere, concerts and stuff going on, [View Full Entry]

oh dear, you know it's not good news when i'm writing from the aussie embassy!! on our wonderful first day in rome, mum and i became the latest victims of professional pickpockets, and both lost our passports, flight tickets, credit cards and money...hurrah... we were travelling back to our hotel by bus, it was insanely crowded and we were hanging onto our bags so tightly, but in all the jostling both of us got our stuff stolen. we didn't even notice, and only found out this morning. so the day has been spent going from the police to the embassy, to [View Full Entry]

paris: another city visited, another favourite!!! and another on the list of have to come back to one day...although this is my third time here. i think i like it more each time i visit. i'm staying in a decent hostel in 4er, right by the river seine. it's an old mansion, with ivy growing up the walls - pretty cool! except for the 4 spiral staircases i have to climb to get to my room...was pretty bad trying to lug my increasingly heavy suitcase up there. am rooming with an aussie, new zealander and american, and someone else who snores [View Full Entry]

hi all, i have made it to europe safe and sound! just landed in paris and realised i'd forgotten to write down the addy for my hostel so had to buy net time. theres a stupid keyboard where i can't touch type. nyc was good! i've decided i have a love/hate relationship with the city - i kept deciding i din't like it then would see soething great and like it again! the highlight was prob yesterday, i went to the brooklyn museum and saw 2 amazing exhibits - one from photographer annie lebovowitz adn the other that sculptor who does [View Full Entry]

hi everyone! i write on my last evening in vancouver - i've had a great time here freezing my butt off! i think the top temperature the last few days has been -1, down to about -10. i cracked out the thermals and have been layering up, but nothing can really keep the cold totally out. bought some leather gloves, the best investment yet of this trip. the first day i was out in the morning in the snow and without gloves it was sooo painful! there is still a fair bit of snow around, still from the dump on wednesday...shows [View Full Entry]

hi everyone!
