SUNDAY (pictures of hike on next post) We grabbed breakfast at a restaurant called The Dog Patch before heading out for a day of hiking. I packed all sorts of food to eat at the campground, but the Piranha Flys had a tendency to kill the mood. Our first stop was Munising Falls. It was a little over a 1/2 mile to the falls and back - no biggie. The view was nice, but a tad boring on the adventure side. There were bathrooms and wooden walk ways there and back. Our next stop gave us two options. Chapel Rock to the right or Mosquito Falls to the left. Ooooor a third option of doing the whole loop totaling ten miles. We decided to head toward Chapel Rock and just play it by ear. Nobody thought ... read more

FRIDAY The boyfriend and I decided to go camping for a week of my two week break from school and to take my former co-worker, John, with us. Johnny is known to complain about not getting time off of work and that everyone gets to take vacations except for him because Lord knows Anderson Printing would implode without him. So. We left him no choice but to take a vacation with us. After debating where to go and what to do, the three of us finally, finally, finally settled on camping in dah U.P., eh! We picked up John about two hours late, but aside from that small glitch, it all worked out really well. We drove up to Munising with plenty of time to set up camp and make dinner. The camp ground we stayed ... read more

I am having a hard time concentrating on much other than our trip out west. The trip was canceled last year and is finally coming together for September. I have been researching a proper tent to get, looking up scenic routes, historic sites, national parks, and even booked a concert. Someone suggested we visit Red Rocks. When I Googled it, the first thing to come up was the Red Rocks Amphitheater. It looks amazing. As it turns out, there are three concerts in the beginning of September so I snagged seats for The Killers on 09/09/09 (AWESOME!). Does it get much better than live music and nature? The venue is a half hour from my good, good, good friend, Kat Wrozek, who I am hoping to be able to stop and see in Colorado if her ... read more

Home sweet home! Our alarm was set for 8:30, but I was up at 6:58 and ready to get a move on. I lied about being done jewelry shopping....I got another necklace and a bracelet. Did I mention everything is SO FREAKIN' CHEAP compared to the states? I'm very excited about my collection! We packed, ate, shopped, and hit the road. There were two traffic jams where people were being pulled over for random military checks. Dudes with huge guns guiding you either to pull over or keep going. We were in the clear for both. We got to the airport way to early and had to waist quite a bit of time. The plane was 20 minutes late. All that wasn't to bad, but to make up for our more then perfect flight in, we ... read more

North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Akumal December 20th 2008

Last full day here and then we get to come home tomorrow. We’re both Mexico’d out. There’s only so much being lazy by the ocean two people can take....we’re kind of bored. Last night we had a fantastic meal at the restaurant at this resort. It was the first time we ate there instead of the snack bar (that has more casual burrito, burger type meals). It was also the first time I’ve ever had prime rib.....and THAT was incredible. We split a prime rib meal, a bowl of black bean soup, and a piece of key lime pie. MmmMMMmmm. They had a live Jazz band that was great and the atmosphere of the place was perfect. We wrapped up the evening with a stroll along the beach, under the stars. We spent most of the ... read more

We woke up around four in the morning after such an early night to bed, but managed to fall back asleep until 8 or 8:30 :) Alex got a funny text message photo from his office staff that says, "We've got you covered" and then the picture is the three ladies that work there hanging out in his office. I hear we got 5-8 inches of snow yesterday. looking forward to that. :-/ It's 78 degrees right now with a high of 82 and sunny all day. Actually, I am excited to get home. I know I'm in Mexico, but I just started the new marketing job at South Central Credit Union and am lovin' it. I'm addicted to working...what can I say?... read more

12/18/2008 - 7:30 p.m. It’s 7:30 and I’m struggling to find the energy to type this. It doesn’t help that it’s pitch black by 6 p.m. The city of Akumal wound up being nothing that we had anticipated and quickly came back. Definitely no crab to satisfy our craving. Yesterday we went to Playa Del Carmen, hoping to find crab there since Akumal was a little disappointing, but a local said you can only find crab at upscale restaurants. Lobster you can find anywhere, crab....not a chance. We spent hours there shopping, eating, and walking the beach. This is the first vacation VACATION we’ve taken. No sight seeing, no adventures (aside from very occasional diving), just relaxing and enjoying the sun. Speaking of that....our savage tans are now savage burns. I wear 50 proof block, baby ... read more

Our trip here was everything any traveler hopes for. Alex packed a small duffel bag, I packed my backpack and a purse/tote thing. I still can’t believe I got a weeks worth of stuff in one backpack (including my business text book, flat iron, laptop, and sandals!)...sometimes I impress myself.... Cassandra, the most girly girl I know, questioned how we’re friends. With no luggage to check, we got to skip the line, check ourselves in, had enough time to use the restroom, eat, and buy a few things for the flight. The plane was on time, we were in Mexico in four hours, didn’t have to wait for luggage again, no wait at customs, and met a guy outside of the airport holding a sign with Alex’s name on it to take us to our reserved ... read more

We landed in New Hampshire Thursday morning, followed by a car ride that took less than an hour to get to our destination in Massachusetts. It wasn't until I sent my little sister a text message that we landed safely and got a response of, What? Where? Why? that I realized that I forgot to tell my family I was leaving other then one sister on the other side of the family and a cousin in Ohio. Alex had invited me to Westford, Massachusetts to meet more of his extended family and attend a wedding for his second cousin. The time spent was jammed packed. I forgot my bathing suit and the hotel has a pool so we went shopping. Got a really cute top and a new suit at Marshall's and never had a chance ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Curaçao February 11th 2008

Saturday, February 2, 2008 We're in route to Curacao after an excellent start with American Airlines. I was checked in separately from Alex due to my confirmation not pulling up in their system. Found out the hard way that they charge a flat $50 for anything over 50 pounds. Completely forgetting I packed an 8 pound laptop in my bag, I came in five pounds to heavy and couldn't transfer weight to our other bag since his was already checked in. I suppose now I know at least... Random Thoughts on the Plane - as this is my journal after all... I'll be 23 this upcoming St. Patty's day. I've never been one to take life for granted, I'd imagine after being exposed to death early on from a series of friends and peers, all before ... read more
