Temples of Angkor Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap
Caught a bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and pace is so much less frenetic here! Hired a mountain bike with one working gear and one brake and rode out to Angkor. First day was spent at Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. Size of the temples was amazing! After you enter the South Gate of Angkor Thom its still a few kilometers to its centre! Roads cut through dense jungle and then the temples appear! I like this place! just a bit too hot! Second day cycled to more remote, smaller temples. Didnt realise just how distance was involved, at [View Full Entry]

Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh, Capitol of Cambodia, what can I say. Noisy, dirty, confusing, all of these. Tried really hard to like this city but just couldnt. Too much noise and mayhem. Motos all over the place, touts everywhere. Not for me. Enjoyed Royal Palace and Tuol Sleng, mainly because they were away from the traffic mayhem! Oh well Siem Reap next! [View Full Entry]

Kep Asia » Cambodia » South » Kep
Kep is very strange. Apparently its the old playground of Cambodias elite. Full of decaying old villas and almost no people there, very atmospheric place!. Has a lovely beach and Kep is famous for its peppers and crabs, so went to crab market and had Fresh crab with green Kampot pepper, ooohhh awesome food but got very messy breaking all those crabs! Sihanoukville Asia » Cambodia » South » Sihanoukville
Strange place, Sihanoukville. Cambodias main beach resort but it doesnt feel like one! Beaches are way out of town, so stayed on Serendipity Beach. Walked few km along to Otres Beach to escape the hawkers and crowds. Really nice there! Loads of good restuarants and bars, but not really my type of place. Still, nice to on a beach at last! And loads of Angkor Beer again! [View Full Entry]

Koh Kong Asia » Cambodia » West » Kaôh Kong
Crossed the border into Cambodia and to Koh Kong. First thing I noticed was a complete lack of cars, there just arent any here! Koh Kong is a great little town on Cambodias south coast and the people are amazingly friendly and seem to be stoned most of the time! Spent a day out on a bike with a local guide called Rah, had an awesome time! Rah kept saying that Cambodia is just waking up, I understood what he meant, after the countries almost complete destruction after 5 years of war and the lunacy of the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia is [View Full Entry]

Vang Vieng Asia » Laos » West » Vang Vieng
Decided only proper way to see Laos was by bike. Hired a Honda XR 250 and headed north. Stayed few days in Vang Vieng. Unreal scenery! Stayed out of town for few days in great guesthouse called SKC right on the river. Think I was one if only two guests! Very chilled out place. Most people here are tubing down the river but thats a bit too hectic for me! Nightlife is crazy, town full of bars and restaurants. Took the bike to Blue Lagoon and caves, really cool place. Luang Prabang Asia » Laos » West » Luang Prabang
Took me 9 hours to ride the bike from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, mainly cos I kept stopping to look at the scenery! Almost went over the cliffs a few times oggling the landscape, amazing scenery! Got a bit worried at one point cos all the men walking alongside the mountain roads appeared to be carrying guns that looked suspiciously like AK47 Assualt rifles! But they seemed friendly enough! Most of the mountain villages where full of kids running around in rags with no shoes, think Laos must be one of the poorest countries I have seen so far. Luang [View Full Entry]

Vientiane isnt Asia » Laos » West » Vientiane
Laos at last! Wanted to travel here since I can remember. Crossed over the Thai Laos Friendship bridge and caught a bus to Vientiane. In the capital Vientiane and only word that comes to mind is Isnt. Vientiane just isnt like any other South East Asian capital. Isnt big, isnt noisy, isnt dirty! Just very friendly, very clean and very French! Old French colonial buildings everywhere. And best of all is Beer Lao! Its awesome stuff! Had loads last night along the Mekong then in various bars and the girls here are so pretty! Think Im gonna like Laos! [View Full Entry]

Nong Khai Asia » Thailand » North-East Thailand » Nong Khai
Moved from far North West of Thailand to Nong Khai on the East. Arrived in the dark and woke up the next morning and the first thing I saw was the Mekong! Nong Khai is a very relaxed little town and staying at the wonderful Cycled to the very bizzare Sala Kae Kou sculpture garden, huge sculptures of Bhuddist, Hindu and Christian figures. Very amazing. Met one of the old men involved in its construction who now reads palms. He told me I had a very good wife! Where? Then I got chatting with a really cool monk at one of [View Full Entry]
