An adventure taking us across 12 countries, hitting 3 continents, 15 daring airplane rides, 6 months backpacking totalling a wopping 29,500 miles has sadly come to the end. 6 months travelling have given us both some unforgettable experiences, friends that we will forever share a bond with because of these experiences and an outlook on life that can only be achieved through the things we have seen and done. Yes I think its fair to say the Becs' have a passion for travelling. To name all our memorable experiences would take a wee while but it would be an injustice to not mention the likes of the Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China, Angkor Wat Temples, Franz Josef Glacier, Tongariro Crossing, The Killing Fields, Whitsundays, Fraser Island, Milford Sound, The Kwai Bridge and of course ... read more

San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge, famous for its cable cars and built on no less than 43 hills, was the Becs's final stop in America and their final stop on their world adventures. Home was approaching fast and the Becs's refused to let the bag theft ruin their final days of travel before going back to reality. This seemed a daunting prospect as worries about not receiving Becs S passport in time flittered in and out of conversation. We arrived in San Francisco in the pouring rain and freezing cold but spirits were high as we were meeting Bec C's brother, Karl. Karl was the first familar face from home that either of us have seen for 6 months so it was really exciting to meet up with him and do some major ... read more

A 10hr night flight on the 16th February heading west out of Fiji saw us cross the international date line and consequently arrive in Los Angeles on the same day, but 10hrs earlier. We had gained back half a day and as a result lived the same day again, crazy. As we only had a couple of days in LA and wanted to see as much as possible, we became classic tourists and hopped on board a sight-seeing bus. A tour of the stars homes was first on the agenda including those of Leonarndo Di Caprio, Adam Sandler, Britney Spears and Jack Nicholson to name a few. After making us green with envy we passed through Beverley Hills and had a glance at Bel Air. Feeling like we'd just joined the set of Pretty Women we ... read more

The second half of our week comprised mostly of diving. As it had been two months since our last dives we were keen to get back in the water. We went with a local company and soon realised Fiji has very relaxed laws. As we are open water divers, technically we are only allowed to go to a maximum depth of 18m. Our Fijian instructor however decided 29m seemed more suitable!! In diving terms this would be classed as a deep dive, oh well! We went to a site called Snap Crackle where we saw a cave, pretty cool especially as its the first we have seen. A huge lobster poked his head out and a very inquistive turtle came to within inches of Becs S. Although not particularly different from previous dives, the visibility was ... read more

Going to Fiji was a rather surreal experience as not only did it mean we had entered into our final two weeks of our world adventure but it also meant (hopefully) paradise. Our decision to base ourselves in one place for the entirity of our Fiji experience was not taken upon lightly, but with dwindling funds and the essence based on chilling, this seemed the most appropriate way. This choice could not have turned out more perfect, our base on the Coral Coast, on the main Island Viti Levu, was beautifully located on the beachfront with a palmtree back-drop. Although the hostel was a good 2 hour drive from Nadi (pronounced Nandi) airport the time flew by as we soaked up the sights of our new surroundings. Fiji has quite and Asian feel with a back ... read more

Two islands, 31 days, 5949km and a car named Zeta. A farewell looms to possibly our favourite destination so far. One that is steeped in its native Maori traditions yet it seems to fit so effortlessly into modern day society like a jigsaw piece fits into a puzzle. A lush green mountainous country with genuine friendly people. A worldwind tour of this magnificant place saw us taking in all of the major highlights it had to offer, from active volcano's to 7m raftable waterfalls, to falling out of the sky, to walking its beautiful national parks, kayaking its famous sound to a glacial trek that will never be topped. New Zealand is simply awesome and we will be sad to leave. Our last night saw us arrive back in Auckland for the 3rd time. After a ... read more

With Becs S feeling much better we made our way to National Park and back up to the North Island. This was a sobering thought for us as the realisation set in that we only had five more nights in beautiful New Zealand. We arrived late to National Park giving us our first experience of driving in the dark in New Zealand. As the day turned to night we became even more aware of how rural New Zealand is and how alone and in the middle of nowhere you can feel even though you are on the state highway. As we had already walked the Tongariro Crossing we used National Park as a chill out place with the only plan of action being Bec S in search of the perfect Mt Doom picture. The hostel was ... read more

A long drive from Te Anau to Lake Tekapo saw us stop off along the way at Lake Pukaki. Quite possibly the bluest water we have seen and thats saying something. Lake Tekapo too was incredibly blue but without the added bonus of Mt Cook as its backdrop. The lakes are so blue due to a sediment laying at the bed of the lake called rock flour, the sediment is created by glacial movement which basically grates rock on rock, leaving a fine powdery substance. Lake Tekapo was merely a stop off and brake from the long drives. There wasn't a great deal to do there except visit the charming little Church of the Good Shepherd and its dog statue! It was however a sad day as Becs S flip flops passed away. They had been ... read more

We arrived in Queenstown and instantly loved it. Although it looked a bit pricey we loved the vibe it gave off and were stunned at its beauty. The lake glissened a perfect blue and had a mountainous backdrop. The disappointment soon showed itself as we realised that we only had one night in this amazing place. Although we thought that Queenstown had such a small town centre for being such a well known place it was full of life nonetheless. It would have been a scandal if we had left the adventure capital of New Zealand without taking part in some sort of activity. So off we went and did a bungyjump, only joking, we had fun on the luge instead. This involved a very 'scary' ride up the side of a mountain in the skylines ... read more

Approximately 7000 years old and a reminent of a much older and larger glacier which orginally swept right to the sea, Franz Josef extends 12km from its three feeder glaciers in the high snow fields of the Alps. Today the terminal face is a mere 19km from the sea and just 5km from the township. At present the glacier moves an astonishing 8 metres per day giving it the title as the fastest moving glacier with others moving a more modest 3 metres. To continue our unique experiences this was one not to be missed especially after witnessing pictures from Bec C's friend Laura, which just looked amazing. Once again we got lucky with the weather and an early start saw us take full advantage of this. The walk from the car park to the terminal ... read more
