My personal weather forecast in form of my friend Patrizia in London told me that we were to expect Hurricane Ida to brush past Cancun in the next few days as it made its way from Nicaragua up north. I mentally prepared myself for a bumpy flight and bumpy it was. Not even the Cuba Libre was working that I had consumed purely on the grounds that it would take the edge of the fear of turbulence. Wednesday, 4th November, touchdown at 17.40h local time at Mexico City's Benito Juarez Airport after an uneventful but long flight from Madrid to Mexico City. Uneventful because unlike Virgin Atlantic, Continental and other flagships of the industry, Iberia hasn't yet installed video screens in their seats- at least not in coach class. Movies were offered - 3 altogether for a 12 hour flight - I got the distinct impression that sleep was encouraged after meal service. I settled for my new book instead and listened to my Italian seat neighbour's debate on when the next meal will be served. Immigration was very quickly done.
