The memorial stone in the church yard at St.Mary's commemorating "The Unknown Children who died here".
Thank you so much for explaining about the grievous child starvation victims. My husband and I read the memorial stone at St. Mary's but didn't know the magnitude of the tragedy in Killarney or who the monument was dedicated to. Interesting that it was your cab driver who made you aware of the history at St. Mary's, we found that much of Ireland's history and genealogy was conveyed to us by our cab drivers too!

A wonderful time in Cork
We booked this house online in order to stay there for 2 nights. All the personnel was very kind and gentle and we had a really great time in THE GARNISH HOUSE. Especially, I have to mention the extraordinary, tremendous breakfast - really incredible!!! Thank you very much that we were allowed to be your guests - we will recommend your house everywhere in our circle of friends. We will see us - for sure !!!

Fantastic B&B!
If you're looking for quiet, convenient comfort in the heart of Cork, then this is the place for you. I recently stayed at the Garnish House while I was on holiday with my family. Let me sum up my experience in one word...AWESOME! I would say this is one of the top B&B's around. The house was immaculately clean, well maintained, and very accommodating. Each charming room was nicely furnished with a private bath and plenty of storage. The house we stayed In also had a self-serve kitchen with free washer and dryer, and a welcoming living room with fireplace.Careful attention to detail and providing the best in comfort for a traveler makes this B&B first class. But the real treasure here is the friendliness and service of the gracious hostess and her staff. They made sure we were relaxed, content, and had everything we needed. As the second "B" indicates, breakfast is included in the very affordable price. But little did we know that breakfast at the Garnish House is something to behold. Delicious cuisine was gracefully served in a lovely dining room, (also outside in the garden, weather permitting.) We enjoyed an astonishing meal with continuous flow of mouthwatering eats and beverages, all freshly prepared to our choice, including a delightful Garnish House favorite of hearty porridge made with Bailey's or Irish whiskey. It was a breakfast experience surpassed by none. I will definitely return to Garnish House and genuinely recommend it to you.

Wonderful place with amazing hospitality
Booked The Garnish house on the internet on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Cork. I was sold on the "big Irish breakfast", the menu looked amazing. I was not disappointed, there were so many choices set up buffet style, including an assortment of breads, scones, cereals, fruit, and yogurt. That was only the beginning, we were offerered a variety of omelettes, french toast, pancakes, etc. They were so eager to please, making suggestions and making sure no one went away hungry. Our room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We were greeted upon check in with a variety of breads, scones, and tea and coffee. From the start of our stay at Garnish House it was evident that our comfort was a priority. We had ample parking behind the building, a kitchen and living/dining area at our disposal, as well as a washer and dryer for our convenience. We were sad to leave, but were sent on our way with foil wrapped scones with butter and jam. A great experience from start to finish, our hostess and staff were so friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Cork.

do not recommend it:(
i just want to warn everybody who are looking for a "wonderful" Grnish B&B ! what you see on the website is not what you get on arrival! you may be put in a tiny room, so small that you can't even open the wardrobe! in a "granny flat" ,400meters from the main house with a view on an oil tank! just a nightmare!:( so may sure when you book that you will be place in the main building in a nice specious bedroom! mine was so claustrophobic, damp and depressing, and absolutely nobody has asken me if i like it!!! The coffee is awful as well:(

Review
Vern, we'll review when the time is right. Perhaps we'll all end up there building a spiritual retreat, eating Mark's bananas and Glen's coconut ice cream and sleeping in a treehouse...

monastic accomodation
Paz, I have been unavailble for a bit and just now received your query. If still interested in this information, i can tell you that I do not offer this experience in Ireland. I took several of my students there to allow them opportunites to develop their own wisdom and knowing outside of their normal environments and comfort zones. It was sacred not because of the monastery or even the grounds, but because it is a powerfully enhancing place for deep introspection and change. It seems to me that you are seeking a spiritual moment that could lead you somewhere - down a particular path with something enlightening at the end. I am no longer doing this kind of sharing of myself, but i hope that your needs are met otherwise. If i can be of further assistance let me know. Otherwise, may you journey well. Lettie Lettie

Hi Becky and Lettie
So glad to hear that everything is going to be alright. Soon you will be in paradise. I just wanted to let Becky know that Dr. Z has a brain tumor and has been in the hospital for 8 days now.It is a meningioma but Class III due to size. So I will be staying to hold the practice together for now.I guess there was a reason that I had not found a job that was right yet. I also had job interview with Cory(Hygienist from Dr Lee) but decided it wouldn't work with her.Amazing how the world seems so small sometimes. Can't wait to hear more about your trip. Love Peggy

good to see that silly grin
Let's do catch up but not until your rest and relaxation in the tropics. Enjoy it all and tune in to some of that dreamy 'slack-key guitar' that is only there. I wish you well. Love, Ouida
