Today we had a lovely morning on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. It is a very luxurious yacht and we enjoyed our time on board. The rooms are very expensively decorated and the yacht is very spacious. To finish off our visit we had a very nice morning tea which was served in the upper-deck tea room. Very very posh with a silver teapot etc. It was lovely to feel like royalty (even if it was for a short time). Steve and I were really pleased that we had the opportunity to view this ship. We set off at about 12midday to travel as far south as we could. (Thankyou Mike and Jan for your suggested route) We travelled to Berwick on Tweed. Out one side of the car window was the ocean and out the ... read more

Today we were still not feeling too well. We would have loved to have stayed curled up in bed today, but no time! We walked down to Waverly Station to board the Hop on Hop off Tour bus. We enjoyed a tour of Edinburgh and then we went to see "the Castle'. The castle was very interesting. We did the self-guided tour and used the headphones with pre-taped info. It was very informative and we were still there at 1pm when the timing cannon was fired. Steve was very quick and caught it all on camera. After a very interesting 4 hours at the castle we got back on the bus and saw more of the city sights. It was another great day. We were very tired when we got back and it was a struggle ... read more

Hi all, The blog has not allowed me to add entries recently - but appears to be working now. Plus steve and I have not been too well, we must have picked up a Scottish flu. Today we left Inverness to head for Edinburgh. It was a very wet start to the day. First stop was Nairn to get some fuel. We then called in at Kinloss Airforce base to see where Jan used to work. We were surprised to see a man wielding a large machine gun at the gate! We spoke very politely to him and asked him if he would mind if we took a photo of the sign at the front entry. (Just for you Jan!!) We then drove to Elgin and out to the coastal town of Lossiemouth. A very nice ... read more

This morning we farewelled our lovely country B & B and moved the cows off the road so as we could get our car out! Steve enjoyed this, of course. We then booked ourselves on a boat trip on Loch Ness to see if we could catch a glimpse of Nessie. We enjoyed the boat ride which also provided us with lovely views of Urquhart Castle. Our Captain, Dick Raynor, was a local who had been studying and documenting life in the Loch for many years. He was very interesting to listen to and as a boy, at the age of 14, thought he had captured a photo of the Loch Ness Monster. He has a submersible and complex camera equipment which he uses to collect and document information on creatures living in the Loch. His ... read more

Today we left Glasgow, it is still raining. The scenery on the way to Oban was beautiful. We drove beside Loch Lammond and the views of Loch with the beautiful mountains behind were amazing. We travelled alongside still lakes, overshadowed by misty mountains. There were emerald green fields dotted with baby lambs and tan- coloured long haired highland cattle. Tall green fir trees and rocky creeks, old railway lines and and stone bridges. When we got to Cruachan the road was supported by pillars and ran right along the edge of the Loch - beautiful. We arrived at Oban at about 11.15 and had a wander around this lovely harbourside village. The fishing boats were all lined up along the docks. We then travelled up toward Fort William, the road literally goes along the very edge ... read more

Today we woke up to Rain!!! What is going on!! Ha Ha, just kidding. We have been so lucky with the sunny weather, I am sure we can cope with a little rain today. We walked into the City and, although I had a raincoat on, I was very wet and my feet were sodden inside my boots. We caught the red "hop on hop off' tour bus and did the full loop so as we could have a look at Glasgow city. This took about 1 1/2 hours. When we got off the bus to have lunch I spied a "nothing over a pound" shop and bought 2 umbrella's, a pair of dry socks and some innersoles for my boots. LOL!! After lunch I spotted a shoe shop and threw my old worn boots in ... read more

Hi all, Today we caught the Stranraer Ferry from Belfast to Scotland. We got a cab to the ferry as we were not sure of its location and did not want to rely on the local bus as we couldn't afford to miss our Ferry. We sailed at 11.45am and it was quite a smooth crossing. The Ferries are lovely, almost like being on a cruise ship. We arrived at Stranraer at about 2.15pm and collected a hire car. We drove north, up the coast to Ayr. The scenery is spectacular along this coast road, and Ayr is a lovely coastal town. We spent some time here wandering along the waterfront and watching people on the beach. There were quite a few people paddling in the water -way too cold for me!! After our lovely stop ... read more

What a BIG day we had today. We joined a bus tour to take us up to the Devil's Causeway. We departed at 9.30am with Allen's Tour Bus. Our journey started at Belfast and continued up the Antrim Coastal Road. The scenery along this road is beautiful. We passed through the Glens of Antrim: Glenarm, famous for its abundant salmon fishing and haunted castle. Carnlough with its picturesque harbour and distinctive rural character. Cushendall and its 19th Century red curfew house Ballycastle the home to the one and only 400 year old "Oul Lammas Fair" Click on the link below for more info. http://www.causewaycoastalroute.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=55 We visited Carrickfergus Castle which is a 12th century Norman castle and one of the best preserved medieval castles in Ireland. Today we had a lovely relaxing morning at Claire and Michael's house. We caught up on the blogs and on the washing and then went for a drive to Swords to see where Claire and Michael's son, Andrew works. We also drove by their old home. Claire then very kindly took us to the bus station and we caught the 2pm bus to Belfast. We were sad to part from Claire and Michael as we thoroughly enjoyed our time with them and they went out of their way to make us feel so welcome. We are staying in Belfast for a couple of nights. *Paul, I rested today - no photos taken........ read more

We left our Doolin B & B at about 9am and drove to the Cliffs of Moher. We are blessed with another beautiful sunny day, though quite windy. You drive into a very big carpark at the Cliffs of Moher and walk up to cliffs. We spent about 4hours here taking in the beauty of it all. The views are spectacular and the bird life abundant. I think the photos say it all. We followed some other tourists through a hole in a fence and walked a very narrow, and at times, scary path along the clifftop,. We also climbed up the windy staircase in O'Brien's viewing tower (even though it was OUR tower, they still made us pay.....some nerve!) After a fabulous time walking along the cliff top and taking in the views we made ... read more
