Student of the World - Madeline Wardleworth

Madeline Wardleworth I am a sixteen year old Australian student, embarking on a six week high school exchange to a town called Rouilllon, near to Le Mans, in the Loire Valley, France.
I hope to learn much about the culture and gain motivation in my studies, but I also hope to improve my French!

bqck to using an english keyboard, so i apologise for any inconvenience When I woke up on tuesday, I said a final goodbye to maryse and finalised packing. Michel was going to take some stuff that didnt fit to the post office and mail it home for me, so the actual task wasnt too bad.I woke up really early in the morning, probably not my greatest idea, as I had heaps of time to think after I finished packing. We had heaps of time, so Michel took ;me to the boulqngerie for one last treat. I got a tarte aux pommes. [View Full Entry]

I did it again. woke up, turned off alarm and went back to bed. I keep trying to think about a quote that someone from volleyball told me, which is, 'it is only a mistake if you make it a few times, again and again.' I was to start school at 10 on Monday, as the teacher of english, my first lesson, had a conference, and I dont think they do relief teachers here. Roxane forgot and came by at 8:05 whilst i was sleeping. Michel reminded her, and woke me up at 9am to my colossal embarrassment. He then drove [View Full Entry]

I managed to get to bed at 2, which was slighly earlier than Antoine and Anne-So, who managed to keep their eyelids open until 5. When we woke, we had a brunch with Michel's grandson, and it was bacon and eggs, meat, tomatoes, fromage and bread followed by crepes. Magnificent. Considering we were up heaps late, we left for Chambourg late too. I guess the difference with my biological, australian family and my host family is illustrated in the fact that we left fifteen minutes late. Very amusing for me. My fam had wanted to take me to a house in [View Full Entry]

I probably should have typed that when I ate my first gourmondaise, as they are probably on par, but yesterday I had one that was the king dog! It is called a pain au chocolat amandes, and it is best described as amazing. I'll start at the beginning of the day. School started at 8, on a saturday, I know, and Anne-Sophie had a four hour physics/chem exam, so was a bit stressed. I had spanish and history, so I worked on uses of the infinitive and the pronoun en. Then we had p.e , badminton again, and I have definatley [View Full Entry]

I have had the title of this entry saved for sometime, and considering I have three days left in Le Mans, I think I might be in the right frame of mind to use it properly. Although I feel horrifically fat all the time, eat when I am not hungry for the sake of eating and miss my family, I can honestly say that I am at home here. Its like John said before I left: 'just as you get really settled, it will be time to leave.' I couldnt have asked for a family that are easier to live with. [View Full Entry]

Is the name of the hysterical program that Ann-So and I watch for a scream. It is on mtv, and depicts the birthday celebrations of some of the worlds richest teenagers. My favourite so far would definatley be the girl who had her friends transported (50+) by buses to LaceyLand (her name was lacey) which was a theme park she had had put together for the party. There was then a parade of people ( like the christmas pagent) and she was the final float, arriving on an elephant. The night ended in a club on site, and she got a [View Full Entry]

Sunday lunch actually happened on sunday, and it was a big meal, supposedly not big deal, with Michels son Alain, his partner, and his son. I didnt actually realise that meat was like gold here, but the lamb that we ate came at a the price of 30 euros. The same as the jeans I bought at the galeries layfayette the day before. It was really awkward because I ran out of clean undies and socks so I put on a load in the morning and it didnt finish till the family arrived, and so I was in the salle de [View Full Entry]

Roxanne and her mother collected me at twenty past eight and we listened to a bit of the jackson five in the car. Note to all, that is a really good way to start a day. Similarly great was the fact that our first lesson was english, hip hooray! I cant get over the fact that they are studying thrillers! Of all the vocabulary and grammar in the english language, this must be the most random. It must be amusing for the teacher. Today she asked: 'What are the different ways of killing someone?' I had a little chuckle. But I [View Full Entry]

I really mucked up today. First, it is necessary that I explain my insomnia in this country. I have had problems sleeping here every now and then, but today was a shocker. I woke up at 4:40, and thought it was 5:40, and because I had intended to get up at 6:40 wasnt worried about the difficulty I had when trying to get back to sleep. Then I realised the harsh reality, and had breakfast, as I couldnt sleep due to hunger pangs. I went back to bed, and must have ignored my alarm; because when i woke it was 8:10. [View Full Entry]

I still cant believe that I had to go to school on Saturday. It really was very weird. I had to get up early, and then was driven to school with Anne-Sophie, who had a four hour test. Spanish at eight in the morning was tough, but I did some french grammar, as continued with such work in History. Then it was PE. I had been looking forward to this for so long, because the class have been studying volleyball. Anyway, turns out that this week was badminton. I was devo. To make matters worse, I was the oly girl in [View Full Entry]
