Thank you very much admiring my temple. I am Cambodian, I love Angkor Wat and I really want to say that "Come to visit Cambodia". "Cambodia, Kingdom of Wonder"
Thanks for clarification, Dave We did notice the men looked Indian and not Singaporean. It makes sense that is why there were so many men walking and sitting around. Are they freelance migrant workers? In Atlanta, a lot of our Hispanic migrant workers wait around until someone comes by to hire them. We certainly enjoyed Singapore and it's a beautiful cosmopolitan New York City-type of hussle/bussle city. Wish we'd have had more time to visit it.
Little India men The reason why there are so many men in Little India is that most of them are not Singaporeans at all. They are migrant workers from India. Most Singaporean women, including Indian Singaporeans, work and certainly do not wait on their husbands at home. Hope this clarifies.
Jackfruit or Durian We thought it was a Durian fruit too and got really excited we saw one on a tree. Our guesthouse hosts swore to us that's it's a jack fruit not a durian. I wanted to try a durian due to it's reputation but never saw one in any of the markets. Our hosts say they are not in season right now so probably why we didn't see anything. The durian fruit is banned from being carried on the subway in Singapore and Bangkok since it's so pungent.
Jack Fruit I'm not familiar with the name "Jack Fruit", but the picture looks like what we in Indonesia call Durian. It's a super sweet fruit that stinks worse than a land-fill for four blocks radius! Is that the same fruit you encountered? Did you try any? People say the taste is well worth the effort of getting past the smell. I myself never succeeded getting past the smell.
Well, as you head back to the real world... Get ready. Rick, I'm glad you got your Chili Crab dish and Tammy, I am with you Mc D's is better (LOL) Now Rick when you get back to the real word (DNR) we know that you have been pampered and spoil but, I hate to say it, the party is over!!!! Awesome pictures, well by now I know you guys are getting close to winding up.
Squat toilet sans TP For squats we saw, either there is no toilet paper or you pay for toilet paper. If too cheap, either drip dry or use the "clean" water to "freshen" up. That's all I'll say.
tammy
squat pots So, did your squat pots at least have toilet paper? I know the Indonesians don't traditionally use it. I won't go into detail, though. I'll leave the rest up to your own imaginations.
Squat toilet You would not believe it but when I was in Paris, my friend's appartment (in the common restroom) also had this squat toilet but instead of scoop for water, there is a string to pull to flush the toilet.
Water village Wow, don't know if I could deal with that water all the time...
Miss ya Rick, the place is not the same without you!
BTW, this guy who works in AIR, Paul Washington, passed away suddenly from a Massive Heart attack over the long weekend. Wasn't sick, had some medical issues but was at work last week.
Beautiful Pictures Hang in there Richard...Literally!!!
Miss you much. Thanks for the pictures and the well written overviews (Great Job Tammy...okay and Rick)
Significance of the flags -3rd picture Wat Phrathat Doi Tung a temple built one thousand years ago which is an important place of pilgrimage for Buddhists from Thailand and overseas. A giant flag was flown from the point where the temple’s chedis were built giving 'flag mountain' its name "Doi Tung"
Singapore night I went to your travel blog and saw many beautiful pictures from Sigapore and Thailand. How is food over there? Hopefully you will enjoy authentic food that you wouldn't find it back in US like octopus balls. Yummy.
Enjoy,
Karen
