For those of you that dont know, we have been home for a few months now! Finished off flying from SA to Kenya. Nairobi was a cool base and we visited the amazing Massai Mara, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and spent our last few days relaxing on a beach near Mombassa! We will post some pictures very soon! See you! | 10th March 2006 Helen | What is it? - From: more pics... "What is it? We spotted this at Yanchep... anyone know what it is - looks like an owl of something?" I emailed CALM in WA, and they came back with: "The bird is a Nankeen Night Heron probably with a damaged beak as they are usually straight. They are found along most waterways in the State and can be seen walking along the banks of the Swan at dusk. " I have lived in this state for 30+ years, and not seen one, I guess I haven't been in the right place at the right time... or just not seen them close up before. I live in Geraldton, and your pics are beautiful... have been to many of the places you took. Good job :) |

I just thought i'd let you know that my brother's getting married in Kings Park at the beginning of 2008 and his fiance Sophie lived in Perth for a year and said that Rottnest Island was the nicest place ever! We flew in from Sam Neua via a Russian helicopter. Pretty fascinating place overall. |
