Wildlife
Great job on the photos - what an absolutely beautiful landscape. How was the fishing? Any other wildlife up there?

Love the dolphin panoramic :)

costs, real and imagined
true- yet look at how some people spend their money. $3 coffees every morning? in 10 months you can pay for the trip. $100 designer shoes? skip buying 2 pair, and buy a ticket to South America. Eating out 3x a week? in 6 months you can be SCUBA diving with sharks. Priorities, priorities!

Traveling is fun!
It would be interesting to make it cheap, too. Sounds like a fun experience.

Not chilly in Chili
Our son and 3 friends arrived in Santiago Feb. 6 and are now in Temuco visiting fellow Canadians who spend the Canadian winters in Chile, growing canola crops. Found your website..very informative, beautiful pictures, and releived some of our concerns about their personal safety about backpacking/hostelling their way through Chile, then Bolivia. Peru..eventually ending up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before they fly home on May 1. We live in Winnipeg, Canada, smack dab in the middle of the country..we had -40 degree weather here last week (doesn't matter if it's Fahrenheit or Celsius..it's the same..COLD...that's what they left behind and arrived in Chile to 86 F ...that's okay...we've got 38 F, +3C today..any advice for 4 adventurous 20 yr old Canadian boys backpacking Chile? Great site, Bruce

Fantastic job !!!
Hi Steve, just wanted to thank you for all your beautiful pictures of Chile, I'm also Californian like yourself, my wife is from Casablanca Chile, inland from Valparaiso about a half hour. She's there now with her family on vacation..... I lived in chile many years ago and loved it,, the people are wonderful as is the food and the country.. Some day I will probably retire there as it is too expensive here in the USA. Once again beautiful work on your trip and I hope it went great with your gal-pal, the women there are unique and witty... Thanks again.. Wayne.

Thank you
Kudos for your great article, as I enjoyed it immensely. How were the roads? And did you naviate okay with or without Spanish? And what about chains for the car, and cold weather gear for you? Healthy food available? Thanks, Gerry

Very reflective
Your story is very reflective and nicely written. Can we get by without too much Spanish? And how about cold weather gear? Did your camera work at all temps? Thanks, Gerry

Stunning Images
Stunning crystal clear images, the cold wintry light makes Yosemite look even better at this time of year than the summer months. You should be rightly proud of those photos they are beautiful. Well done!

Blenheim...
The more I reflect, the more I realize I would like nothing more than to settle down in Blenheim! One of the top 3 places with the most sunshine, less than an hours drive to the ocean and the alpine mountains, good wine... :) Boring? Perhaps. A fantastic place to live? YES!

on the contrary
The impresson may be from my blog that the weather was "Bad"... but really if you read previous posts some of the comments about "being here on better terms" had more to do with my wallet being stolen! besides, I fully expected-like anyone should- that going to Torres del Paine, or any other polar region, in the fall would mean cold, rain and snow. Never once did I say 'horrible', 'terrible' or 'bad' when referencing the weather!!! On the contrary my friend vellbruixot, I know that if it wasn't for the rain, cold and wind- I wouldn't have gotten the great pictures or the solitude I had hoped would come from the trip.

torres del paine weather
previous poster believes that everyone gets horrible weather in Torres del Paine national park here in Chile. I am a guide in Patagonia and visit the park frequently. Many days are simply perfect, with mostly sun and hardly any wind. Others can be pretty harsh. But you can't say that the universal condition is rain and strong winds, just that you need to be prepared for strong variations and temperature ranges. Enjoy your visit.

Amazing spot.
Zion is incredible. I'd still personally pick Bryce Canyon as the most beautiful park system... but Zion is certainly up there and I understand people who chose it as their favourite. The slot canyons are awesome and its unbelievable how different the different rock formations in the same park are! Love it.

Photo's!
What stunning photo's! I especially love 'Enchanting Forest'. We don't really get that kind of thing in much of Oz. Becautiful.

That's a real winter wonderland

Thanks to All!
Thank you all for the comments, comments always make me happY! As for the map, it was done on maps.google.com Instructions are on the page, but basically you select a start point, and end point, and then add destinations. you can also drag the destination flags if you want to make it more accurate!

Map
Hi there. Great to see your photos of Yosemite in winter. I had a great time there in september but haven't yet posted my blog. I've been trying to draw itinerary lines of my trips on maps with no success. The map of your trip looks great, could you tell me what website you've used and give me a few basic tips on how to do it? Many thanks and best of luck in your journeys. Jose
