| 3rd January 2009 nidea | - From: The Best of the Rest in 61 Pictures or Less In my humble opinion, the new seven wonders of the world are new seven stupidities beyond any understanding. Great work and great pictures:) |
| 10th December 2008 aspiringnomad | Just saw this post... - From: Reflections on Deep Geologic Time Glad to see these realisations are percolating down to the mainstream. Though disappointed more people didn't view it... This is a topic I've been passionate about for a few years now. For something a little harder check out Derrick Jensen or John Zerzan, or failing that, send me a PM! |
| 9th December 2008 Johanna | Lester Brown - From: Reflections on Deep Geologic Time I just checked your reference/link on Lester Brown. It looks like he's got the answer to the global issues that humanity is facing today. His book seems like an interesting read. I'll definitely try to read it on my spare time....thanks ! Jo |
| 9th December 2008 Johanna | Nice Blog ! - From: Reflections on Deep Geologic Time It's good to read something insightful for a change. With all the scientific research and technological advancement, I'm optimistic that someday mankind will invent or discover other energy source that is clean, renewable, sustainable, that yield same power parallel to hydrocarbon-based fuels and has minimal/zero impact on our eco-system. There's definitely a huge problem with the world's current economic model which is base on capitalism and consumerism. I don't have the answers to global economic crisis, environmental, political and social issues. But I do know that balance and harmony is imperative in all aspects. Stop living in excess and adopt a sustainable way of life without destroying the environment. Like you, I probably also think too much and can keep going on and on, on what's wrong in the world...so I'm going to shut up now and leave you with your thoughts :)......cheers ! Jo |
| 8th December 2008 Ali | A lot on your mind lately! - From: Reflections on Deep Geologic Time I've been thinking a lot about similar dilemmas and problems. Some things that may skew the potentially gloomy outlook. The better educated and better resourced a population the more likely it is to have a stable or declining birth rate - look at the western European countries where growth is attributed to immigration. The US is reliant on imported fossil fuels - which are no longer necessarily cheap - this will provide the impetus for the development of technologies such as fuel cells and renewables. We probably will continue to have a hydrocarbon based economy for a long time - just the source of these will have to change - the energy carried in petrol is just immense. Totally agree that as a species we cannot continue our current consumption and expectations without devastating our planet leaving a nightmare world for our direct descendants. |

Steve may Merciful God grant you health, peace, happiness and Trust in Him! Tropical Regards, Marysia |

| 25th August 2008 Eric Tschuy | Pleasant memories - From: A Sacred Hill, A Special City: Santiago de Chile Fotos I spent three childhood years in Santiago and got to know quite a bit about the city (for a 4-6 year old, that is). My two brothers were born there and my father helped hundreds of people fleeing the 1973 coup. I hope to get back for a visit someday--your pictures are a beautiful reminder of that great city and its people. |

| 6th August 2008 Stephen Paul | corrections - From: 2 weeks in Puerto Rico, Rincon, Puerto Rico Photography Historically, linguistically, socially, anthropologically- Puerto Rico is another "country", even though legally and politically it is a "self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States". And I didn't say Puertorriqueños are more friendly, just that they are unique in combining all the aspects of their personalities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rican_independence_movement Furthermore Mr. "me", talking about "Americans" during a discussion of Latin America is a bit of a misnomer. Everyone in North, South and Latin America is an American in every sense of the word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas Finally I totally agree with your comment about population density! Sometimes travel writing gets a bit caught up in the "biggest, largest, longest, oldest, deepest" superlative race! I should always default to the term to make it sound high, like "one of the..." Thanks to everyone for the compliments!! This is my most viewed blog and I definitely feel priveledged to have shared the things I saw in puerto Rico with so many thousands of people! |
| 6th August 2008 Somala | finally! - From: The Best of the Rest in 61 Pictures or Less Finally I had a chance to see your Cambodia pics! It looks like you had an amazing time! I love amok too! Have you been to Chez Sovan in SJ? They have the best amok in town =) |
| 5th August 2008 me | Another correction... - From: 2 weeks in Puerto Rico, Rincon, Puerto Rico Photography Puerto Rico is not the most densely populated island on the planet. Probably not even in the top 10. Not even half of what is found in Java... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java Anyhow, awesome pics. Ain't life grand! |
| 5th August 2008 me | A couple corrections... - From: 2 weeks in Puerto Rico, Rincon, Puerto Rico Photography Puerto Rico is not a different country. Also, the people there are not any more friendly than your typical American. It's just a myth. |
| 4th August 2008 leigh | Hi from Blenheim - From: 4 Days of March in the South Island, Part I: New Zealand Photography Hi there Steven, came across your blog while looking up an image of Beech. I am blessed to live in Blenheim (the boring place! lol). I'm a Kiwi, New to the South, and love the Place's you describe, the majistic sky at the lake I was lucky to experience, I have never seen so many stars, I am off there again soon to tramp and can't wait. |
| 28th July 2008 Dawn Smallwood | Love your blogs on Chile! - From: 2 weeks in Chile, Summer: Chile Valle Central fotos Went for the 1st time last year, going again this year and will be going again next year! Love the place and look forward to seeing the Chilean Lake District on my forthcoming trip! Happy blogging! |
| 28th July 2008 Matthew Stewart | Would like to talk to you.... - From: 4 Days in the South Island of New Zealand, Part II: New Zealand Photography You pictures are great. You remind me of me, in that it sounds like you make frequent stops when you see a photographic moment - my wife used to get frustrated with me as I make frequent U-turns because "I saw something" but now she loves taking photos and doesn't mind. Anyway we are going to NZ Oct.27th-31st then on to Australia from Oct. 31-Nov. 12th. We live in Sacramento CA and it sounds like you are from the area as well (Yosemite, etc.) We have a short time frame on the southern island and I figured you could give us some great advice. We don't like doing paid tours for days on end, would rather have the experience doing a trip ourselves, but we are very open to day tours like the helicopter one, etc. What would you recommend. We want to rent a car and drive the southern island. My phone is 916-788-8828. Take care and God bless. Matthew and Holly |
