Duckies Demise - From: Middle Of Nowhere
Great concern is being expressed at Duckies Demise, has he gone on holiday on his own, has he left you for another, has he found a soul mate, or is he lost in Europe somewhere, or worse still left in a hostel to his own devices?? Do we need to contact the international Red Cross to find Duckie

Izmir here I come! ( but not likely to be by a bus...!) Stob, this place sound absolutely lovely - nice and traditional. Your description conjurs up a magical picture - thank you! Keep up the good work you two - what an amazing array of experiences you are getting by doing things this way. It has to beat the 'hotel and organised trips' way of doing things that so many tourists follow. Talk again soon, love, Irene. xxx

Running off with women - From: Fishing For Tourists
1979, Istanbul. We drove there. Interestingly someone got hold of Diane and me in broad daylight and chatted but then started to direct her away from me. I just laughed but she got worried and shouted and then so did I and she got released. It clearly has not changed!

Topkapi (film) - From: The New Faces Of Saudi Arabia.
You'll have to watch that film which is quite good from the 1960's. Arthur Simon Simpson (Peter Ustinov) and gentleman crook (Maximilian Schell) try to steal the emerald-encrusted dagger of the Ottoman sultans from Istanbul's Topkapi Museum where it is exposed for tourists to admire.

Istanbul sounds like one hectic, overcrowded but fascinating place. You will be adding to their tourist trade with your descriptions and experiences. Sonds like a must, especially as you will have worked out strategies of dealing with the local traders!.

Supermarkets - From: Kiev Has A Moon - At Last!
Actually Kyiv has lots of 'normal' supermarkets...you just have to know where they are. One of the big challenges is obviously the cyrillic alphabet and the language barrier. There's a decent grocery store pretty close to your hotel actually...around the corner and on Khreschatyk heading towards Maidan...ask at the front desk.
