| 25th January 2008 arc | Sagrada Familia - From: Oogling Gaudi I don't think it'll be completed in any of our lifetimes, they just seem so laid back about doing any work on it! In one of the metro stations nearby there is a big poster on wall / ceiling showing the current spires and how high the main spires are meant to be. They dwarf the current structure. Personally i don't really like it.. but still think it's cool :) |
| 25th January 2008 arc | Fishies!! - From: Roaming The Ramblas I saw the fishies too :) http://tackycheese.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=7521 and the fountains, yay; http://tackycheese.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=7878 There was an odd show going on at the time though, can't remember what it was, think it was farm equipment or something equally as random. Anyhooooooo, tara! |
| 25th January 2008 irene | memories - From: A Bit Of Spanish Sun Hi Stob! Just reading your 3 blogs about Barcelona had me going back to our adventures in that beautiful city. The fountain in your photo was the first thing we saw when we emerged from the Metro after leaving our hotel. It was our first trip out and we were heading for the Ramblas. It is a rather large city and I remember getting very tired feet by the end of an afternoon! Will comment further as we gt into the weekend - thank you for nicely detailed emails! Take care, Irene xxx |

| 10th December 2007 Graham | PMR - From: Go Back To Moldova Is it just me but I've never experienced any real problems at the Moldova/PMR border or the Ukraine/PMR border. Only one hiccup when I didn't have the invitation letter to stay at a private address (but eventually crossed the border with a promise to return the next day with the official letter - cost 1 ruble (about 6 pence)). It does help to have a russian speaker along!! Must admit Tiraspol is a fairly quiet place though some good places to eat - Ukrainia recommended - and of course the expansion of "Andy's Pizzas" from Moldova. |

I just used your Chernobyl blog photos (you did quite a few on that blog) with my Physics U6. They were quite amazed that you got so close. You may remember the photo on page 117 of the text book shows a helicopter dropping sand, boron and lead on the broken reactor and you photo showed the same profile and same tower next to it. | 14th November 2007 Steph and Rob | - From: The Day That Almost Happened Hi, Chisinau is just cheap. Food is very cheap, a meal with 2 starters, 2 mains and a bottle of wine is about fifteen GBP in a touristy place but much much much less in little cafes etc. Self catering is fantastically cheap. Public transport is very little but the taxis will cost a bit more if you don't speak Romanian. We stayed at the central youth hostel which was 5 euro each a night, however the hostel was on the small side and we were given little more than a bed. Hotel Tourist which is very nearby had double rooms for sixteen GBP but were quite rude when we called in to ask. Maybe book over the internet? Overall its a fantastic city, the people are wonderful and the wine is dirt cheap. The only epensive thing was a tour of Milesti Mici we took which was well worth the money. Hope this helps. Stob |

| 26th September 2007 Mark | Supermarkets - From: Kiev Has A Moon - At Last! Actually Kyiv has lots of 'normal' supermarkets...you just have to know where they are.
