Well here we go setting off on another road trip and this one will be an extended road trip of 16 days which is easily the longest we have done on our travels and will see us reach our goal of having been to all 50 states (we currently sit at 44) once completed. It’s a sunny day starting out at 14 degrees with a little breeze making it feel quite cool and will reach a top today of only 20 degrees. We don’t have any breakfast included here so we did some googling last night to find a diner nearby that was generally on our route and eventually decided on a place called the Classic Diner. It took a bit of an effort getting here with lots of traffic, driving in school zones with narrow ... read more

Today is Wednesday and alarm was set for 6.15am but we woke up early anyway. We were on track by doing the online check out from Paris Hotel to save some extra time and we were out the front of the Hotel by 7.00am as planned to get a Taxi. The weather was a bit different this morning as a thunderstorm has arrived with a bit of rain and lots of lightning (not ideal for flying on a plane). Our Taxi ride to the airport was smooth and took about 15-20 minutes Our driver has been living in Las Vegas since 1972 and in his words “bigger is not always better”. We had a few final views of the strip and saw the new massive sphere building that will be an exciting new Las Vegas addition ... read more

Late start to the day again (this is Vegas) and we went down to the pool area around 11am and stayed there for a few hours. No swimming done but I just spent time relaxing and updating the blog on my iPad and Kerry got deeper into the book she has been reading. One of the strange things about the pool here is they had a pool lane rope splitting the square shape pool in half. They had 2 of the 4 lifeguard towers being used and they would not let anyone go to the half of the pool that was closed off. They charge a resort fee of around $50- per day to use the resort facilities and then only allow you to use half the pool ! Since we are in Paris I had ... read more

We had a late start to the day as we were so tired after yesterday and had breakfast in our room being yoghurts bought from the nearby CVC Pharmacy. We decided to take the Deuce bus to South Las Vegas premium outlet centre and it was only a short walk across the strip to catch the bus. We bought the unlimited 24 hour pass which cost $8- each. Another stinking hot sunny day around 35 degrees. I did not know what to expect at the outlet centre but I knew it wouldn’t be as good as it was when we were here for Christmas in 2010 when our currency was at parity with the USD (maybe even a little better) when we spent big here. The first purchase was at the Nike store where I got ... read more

Woke up this Sunday morning to another sunny day with fresh mountain air and we went back to Porters Restaurant for breakfast for the second time. We both had the Fruit Parfait and OJ and I had a coffee as well and did not realise our vouchers only allowed one beverage but the waiter said it was all OK. I’d overlooked to mention yesterday that I was able to watch the AFL Grand Final whilst we were staying here on Friday night on ESPN with coverage starting @ 10.30pm and I saw Geelong thrash the Sydney Swans on what looked like a beautiful Melbourne spring day. As we walked back to our room at the back of the complex to get ready to check out we had a quick walk to see the adjoining hobby farm ... read more

A very cool start to the day but the temperature will be climbing from 15 to 23 degrees between 8-10 am. It’s another sunny day and will get to 30 degrees today. We have vouchers to have free breakfast at Porters and I had an omelette and Kerry had the fruit parfait along with some fresh OJ. We later caught the Springdale town shuttle from the front of the hotel down to the Zion NP entrance. It’s Saturday today and as we walked into the NP the ranger said it was free entry (I wish they said that yesterday when we drove in !). It was a short walk from the entrance to the visitors centre where we joined the huge line to catch the canyon shuttle but the line moved fast so with around 200 ... read more

Another gorgeous start to the day and nice and warm again. We actually managed to watch a stream of the movie Broken Arrow last night on You Tube and it was interesting to see an old western movie again. The ending was a bit of a surprise but I won’t do a spoiler in case anyone wants to watch it but it did have some nice footage of the Sedona area we had traversed a few days ago before the tourists discovered the region. We missed the opportunity to see the Horseshoe Bend whilst we were in Page which is a shame but the reviews said you had to be there in the middle part of the day to get the best views and we had 2 tours back to back yesterday so it just did ... read more

We woke up and opened the curtains to find sunshine. Maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees. You beauty ! I chose a simple continental breakfast with toast with Philadelphia cream cheese, a strawberry yoghurt, corn flakes and coffee (can’t have cooked breakfast every day or we all know what happens then ?). Only a short 1 minute drive to Chief Tsosie’s depot for the Upper Antelope Slot Canyon Tour. The tour goes for 90 minutes but it takes about half an hour to get there so we will spend 30 minutes inside the canyon. This adventure along with visiting Sedona were two things Kerry discovered early days when researching this holiday and neither of us had ever heard of them before. The drive out was on a shuttle van and it was nice to see ... read more

Let me start by apologising as I forgot to mention we went passed a couple of noteworthy places yesterday. The first was a town called Winslow Arizona we passed by where I was hoping to stand on a corner. It would have been such a fine sight to see. Anyway we decided to “Take it easy” and the second place we skipped would have included a slight detour of about 45 minutes, so it was kind of an intentional miss not to see the Grand Canyon. It’s a bit bizarre saying we came all this way and skipped past the Grand Canyon but we have been there twice before and there is much more to see around Arizona and Utah and losing 2 hours going in and straight back just did not work for the schedule. ... read more

Woke up to a cloudy morning and reflected on how the Pink Jeep tour experience yesterday would easily rate in the top 10 experiences of our USA travels to date without doubt. We just had a yoghurt on our balcony with some OJ and then hit the road at 9.20am for the first leg to Flagstaff. But just before we jumped in the car we had a quick game of Cornhole next to the carpark. We both eventually landed the bags but no-one got a bag in the hole. The road climbed in altitude and the temperature dropped accordingly and it was 16 degrees when we arrived at our designated breakfast spot the Galaxy Diner on the old Route 66. It was really interesting how all the cactus trees disappeared once we rose to the frost ... read more
