Well here is another blog update for your enjoyment. I’ve done what is called a quiet publish of the blog so if you’ve not read anything since I published Day 24 a while back, then go and have a read and keep posting your comments as you read them if you find anything interesting or have any questions as they are always great to read and sometimes funny too ! So as of today you can keep reading through until Blog Day # 30. Big sleep after a big day and we did not get up until after 8 and had a quick breakfast of bran cereal, strawberry yoghurt and some cream cheese on toast and we hit the road around 9am. Today it is cold around 4 degrees and cloudy with maximum expected of around ... read more

We were up nice and early (or should I just say early as the temperature is only 2 degrees outside !). I have put on 5 layers of clothing today for the trip to the Sunday River Golf Club. It was about 30 minutes drive away from the hotel and hit off time was booked for 8.30 am so we left around 7.15 am after breakfast so I would have time to collect my rental clubs, and get a warm up and be ready to play. Kerry was waiting in the pro shop whilst I was warming up keeping warm and looking for any nice souvenir mementos. They gave me a set of fairly new Callaway clubs and off to the range I went and I was quite surprised how well I was hitting the woods ... read more

After getting a really light breakfast of freshly made pancakes from the pancake machine along with a raspberry yoghurt I did something I had not done for years and played a game of pool in the lobby. I was most impressed by my skills playing against myself with the bigs thrashing the little’s and at one stage I got 3 shots in a row ! Today is a big milestone being our 33rd wedding anniversary so we hope it will be a memorable day. We decided to go for a 20 minute drive to Babbs Covered Bridge and we stayed for well over an hour taking photos which changed dramatically when the sun would poke through and the wind went really calm. Some amazing photo shots and only a couple of people were there including a ... read more

Well it was time to save and publish another few days of blogs so if you have not been following on your own you might want to resume from Day 18 posted a few days ago. Alarm went off at 7.45am and I headed straight to the window and I saw clouds with what appeared to be a resemblance of blue sky as well. Yippee. We did most of the packing last night and we had minimal breakfast supplies in the room to save some time (the delicious OJ we had bought at Newport with a Yoghurt I grabbed from breakfast yesterday). I was a bit freaked out last night when I was unable to upload any photos to my blog as without images it’s just a ramble. But I tried again this morning and all ... read more

A fair bit of rain fell overnight and today is supposed to be pretty wet and when watching the local Boston news on TV they said it was going to be a “dank” day so that’s a new word for me to use when next playing scrabble. When I googled it whilst having breakfast it said it would be disagreeably damp, musty, and typically cold. Maximum will be 15 degrees with a wind chill still around so not sure if we want to go back into the city today or not. Breakfast was light with a bran cereal with a blueberry chobani yoghurt, banana, crappy OJ and coffee. Kerry had honey on toast with a banana and coffee. We did a load of washing and were lucky as the hotel only has 1 washing machine and ... read more

Breakfast was in house here with a modern breakfast facility and was really big. Only a light breakfast of yoghurt, banana and OJ today. We had planned to get a Taxi down to Fenway Park the famous home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team to start the day and we asked reception around 9.00am to call a Taxi for us to make sure we arrived in time for our 10.00am tour and he said don’t pay $70- catch the train instead for only $2.40 ! So we bought what they call here a Charlie Card to get us around. We got the instructions from him on how to get there using a combination of the Red Line from the Andrew T-Line station which was about 900 metres walk away from our hotel. What a coincidence ... read more

Awoke to find the weather unchanged at around 11 degrees and still very windy. We checked out of the Newport Bay Club & Hotel around 10am but not before Kerry did some research looking for a diner for breakfast / brunch on the route to Boston. She settled on the Pandolphi’s Mattapoisett Diner and we arrived at 11am. It’s one of the older classic diners with the shiny silver tram style design with the double entry door system so the cold winds stay outside. Kerry had some french toast with caramelised apple with pumpkin spice mousse on top and I had 2 eggs over easy with rye bread and home fries (aka small potatoes) and coffee of course. Next stop was about 40 minutes away at Plymouth Rock on the coast on Cape Cod. When we ... read more

Alarm was set for 4.20am to wake me up to watch the NRL Grand Final but I don’t know why as when I have something special occurring I seem to wake up by instinct like the body has it’s own alarm clock. Not sure if that is normal or something that makes me special (hopefully the latter !). Some of the places we have stayed at during this trip have what is called Direct TV with > 100 channels and I was lucky enough here in Newport to have Fox Sports 2 coverage of the NRL Grand Final and I got a text message from Luke when I woke up saying he was off to see the big game live in Sydney to watch the mighty Penrith Panthers against local rivals from Sydney’s west the Parramatta ... read more

Today we were headed for Newport, Rhode Island and we headed off east along Highway 20 connecting with Highway 146 down to the State Capital of Providence, and down Interstate i195 to Newport. We went via some backroads through small towns and started to see some nice foliage colours and the overall travel time was around 2.5 hours today. I tried hard to find a diner on our way but had no luck so we kept on driving and driving and we eventually got so far we decided to keep on going all the way. As we entered Rhode Island it ticked off our 47th state visited and state # 7 on this trip (only 3 more to go !) The weather was mostly fine but still quite cold around 14 degrees but eventually turned to ... read more

We started the day with a quick look around the back rooms of The Gris where we had breakfast that was included in our fee. The taproom where we had dinner last night has been described as “the most handsome bar in America”. The firearms room has items dating from the 15th century. The largest of their dining rooms is an old covered bridge that was dismantled piece by piece from its original site in New Hampshire and reconstructed onsite. The Inn was established in 1776 and has been continuously operated since, however the taproom is actually older as it was the original schoolhouse that was built in town in 1738 and in 1801 it was set onto logs and moved to its current location with its original domed ceiling still in place which is made ... read more
