Hablo solemente una poquito....
Okay I speak only a bit Spanish, but Agi speaks quite a bit. But then again she spoke fluent Italian, which is really useful. No clue whether Bolivia is in the plan. First wrap up Colombia, meet friends in Peru and then ... ????

More South America for the win!
Hey guys, thanks for posting again, nice read, although more photos of people wouldn't hurt. And the Escobar painting is a gem, really! Chris, how's your Spanish, si usted sabe lo que quiero decir? BTW, are you guys going to visit Bolivia? If yes, then check out the train graveyard in Uyuni, and post more pics!

I'm guessing it's you.....
Hey Manja, Colombia is really beautifull and divers: mountains, seas, culture, nature, people, cities and excellent food (although the wines are too expensive....). It's not too touristic and all the points of interest are safe. But relating the drugs: Yes, it's present and we know of coke-parties, but not really our style and besides that: in case you look for it, guess it's a bit the same in Holland... Galapagos is not sure yet, but relating Vlieland: we do miss the Dutch wheater once in a while and the Dutch seafood.... Adios C&A Ps, and before you start crying: Yes, we also miss you (a bit)....

Hey Chris and Agi, Great to read the stories of your adventures all over the world!! Nice pictures too! So Colombia is a good place to stay, nice to hear and much different from the information I know about the war on drugs and the crime. Do you see or hear things about that? It's always so much different when you're there I think. Beautiful nature too! Have fun with the diving tour you've planned! I hope there's some money left for the Galapagos Islands?!? Johan and I are also going to an holiday-island. This time it's Vlieland!

Hi
Hi, Andrew,i'm very glad to answer your questions. 'cause one friend of mine went there with his girlfriend last month. He said that the agency did a quite good service for them. They spent 10days there. And it cost about 280 Yuan to have a local guide. If you want some more information, just ask me, and i'll try my best to make a clear explanation. Sabrina

Traveling in tibet
Hi, You wrote a brilliant article there, congatulations. I was just wondering something, with my girlfriend, we're wishing to travel to Tibet this summer. And we'll definitely take the China and the Tibet visas, but we're wondering how much would we actually need to have a local guide ? We were thinking of taking public transport and trying to avoid any checkpoints. But perhaps this is a bit too risky and we should take a guide. I guess that it is quite easy to get a guide from within Lhasa ? and do you know how much would it cost ? Thank's a lot for any answer you might be able to give me. Andrew

I visited Tibet in 2004 and a special pass was needed for foreigners then. Tour guides were also required. I don't think that changes. But anyway I am Chinese. Fairly good tour packages can be found in Chengdu, one of the gateways to Tibet, which provide options of expeditions into some hinterlands of Tibet. Actually Tibet is far beyond Lahsa, which is relatively close to the Chinese dominant parts of China. I was a little disappointed by the degree to which Lahsa and its surroundings were commercialized, when Tibetan kids grabbed around my legs for money and shepherds drove away their sheep because we hadn't paid for photographing. No muck throwing. I did have pleasant chats with some local Tibetans, even though their Mandarin was hardly understandable. I am pleased that Tibetans are still speaking their own language and I would say their culture is considered well preserved. And definitely spectacular landscapes. I would suggest a sip of milk tea in a local teahouse when altitude sickness sets in, rather than holing up in the hotel.

Forbidden N-Korea pics
Sometimes you do have the possibility to take pics, e.g. when the guide next to you is sleeping and the other is just sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. At other times they just do not pay attention. They do take care and 'normally' it's only yourself who might get into discomfort. Only with taking pictures of soldiers and other uniformed people you can get your guides really into problems (including yourselves as well...).

pictures
If you're not allowed to take these pics, why did you take them? Could you not have gotten anyone into trouble? Just asking

The solution to your problems...
... search for the local Las Vegas and get married, so Agi can take on the name Zilverberg and mayby a dutch passport... Ok a big sacrifice that is but you're surviving Chris day in day out now for allready 6 months so how much worse can it get? And you can hold the big party for after you get back from your travels ;-) no seriously, too bad you'll be missing cambodia and vietnam, but those are quite touristy countries so chances are you'll still get there some time eventually. And by the way, hosting a little gettogether with Gijs and Marjolein this weekend, will have some beers cold just in case you should decide to fly to south america over europe this weekend, feel free to stop by then ;-)

English
Actually English is taught in all Burmese schools. In fact burmese children started learing it in Kindergarten at age 5. We learned to write Burmese alphabets and English alphabets at the same time but the curriculum is not good and it got worse in high school.
