Someone seriously got offended, lol, shame that i am the one who always agree most when people criticizing my country. No offend but this is opinion of mine. It is unlikely Philippine among the poorest in SEA. For me the big gap between the social structure shows a sign of improper development plan, which is happening to most of the developing countries now(almost all i would say, when ppl use the public wealth for their own good). The rich ppl getting richer and poor getting poorer. Yeah, sad but it is true, and gives others the impression that the country is poor. Safe trip and looking forward to you guys next entry!

Erick, thanks for your comment, we have responded to you by email too but we will not comment positively about a place when we do not feel it is worthy of positive comments. Having seen povery in many SE Asian countries we saw the most here we've seen in a year, we know that we have homeless in England but not in the huge numbers we saw on the streets here.. that's a fact, yes a sad one but that's the way it is and it's not bullshitting the Philippines by saying it. These are our opinions, if people don't like them that's fair enough but we are still entitled to say things how we see them.

Sipadan - From: Mabul mates...
Hi Hau Glad you enjoyed the blog, you will enjoy Borneo so much, very different from Peninsular Malaysia but just as good! It's not true that only advanced divers can go to Spiadan so don't worry... you can just snorkel there if you want to! Some of the dive sites like the turtle cave are for advanced divers only as it's in a cave so obviously has many risks but you can dive many of the other sites with open water no problem. Have an excellent time when you go it's a beautiful place.

LOL Been hearing that it is deep down under sipadan that only advance water scuba license can enjoy the wonderful of the dive site, is that true?

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed yourself. I just wanted to point out something. "Access to Sipadan and the other islands in the area is via Semporna, a very rough around the edges town on the South East side of Sabah state in Malaysian Borneo" The fact is - there is no such thing as Malaysian Borneo. Sabah is a state in Malaysia. A lot of people get confused with this. Just wanted to straighten things out. :)

Jealous!! - From: Wild Borneo...
Hey guys, been following your adventures for a little while now and have been really enjoying your blog. Your writing always draws me in and your pictures are often stunning. We visited some similar places on our last trip (Borneo being an absolute highlight) so reading of your encounters with wildlife transports me from cold and rainy Brighton (enjoy a smug smile) to the steamy pleasures of Borneo. We were lucky enough to see wild Urangutan and can relate to your joy, it takes me right back. Oh, that strange moth you have a pic of is a lantern bug! Thanks again and happy adventures! Scott

I am close behind you..! - From: Breath of Gili Air...
Hey guys, I wanted to post a comment to thank you for the tips re. Gili, and now you have outdone me by posting before me on my Palawan entry :-) My three weeks in the Philippines are almost over, and I will be flying back down to Bali in a few days and will then head east , pretty much on the same route as you are taking, except that I am planning to go all the way to East Timor from Komodo and not north to Sulawesi. Palawan is really amazing, especially around El Nido - wait for the pictures in my next entry. It is amazing! Halong Bay times five I would say. Take plenty of cash as there are only ATMs in Puerto Princesa. Also, the 59 days visa is 60 US, so about 40 Euros at current exchange rates, not 50 as I wrote, I just checked it. Sorry for that. But 21 days is really not enough for this great country (transport is also super-slow due to the bad roads or the heavy traffic). Guess you will love it as much as I did!

We know it's pretty gross Mell but this really is how things are done out there.. just be thankful you didn't have to step over it all and worry you might slip over!! The poor veggies with us nearly passed out when they saw it all. May to August is the time to be out the area for anyone else who wants to avoid it!

I didnt mention in my blog the state of the cats and dogs in Bali... it really is very sad and yes completely colours ones views of the Balinese... Enjoy your next destination... Nic

Same experience!! - From: Huuummmmm Bali.. Paradise it is not!
Sorry your experience of Bali was ruined...we have had the exact same experience as you (we learnt to stick to the tourist transport!). But even with the tourist transport the Indonesians can be incredibly rude...Neil pinned one guy up against the bemo when he tried to trip me up (when I was wearing my big backpack) and had his hand around his neck - like Dale it takes a lot to get him riled but somehow the Indonesians in Bali (and some in Lombok) just know how to push it too far with the tourists there. Hope Lombok and the Gilis were better for you. We NEVER want to go back to Bali again...it's such a (bad) contrast to the rest of Indonesia! Safe travels and keep smiling! xx

Hey guys, very refreshing and funny entry, thank you! I also spent the night at Jakarta airport a few weeks ago, and as you know had very similar experiences in Borobodur and Pramabanan. It is also nice to read that there are people out there that get just as annoyed by the constant hassle and the foreigner-pricing as I do. Keep it up, greetings from Taiwan, Ben

Train in Indonesia - From: Super Stupas in Yogya...
Hi there, Nice report. Just curious, which train did you guys take? For the class of service, you should always go with Executive Class, anything less is actually only coach / "upgraded" coach class. As for the trains, there are different train names, you should go with ARGO trains, they are the best. (e.g. ARGO LAWU for Jakarta-Jogja). Hopefully this may be of help. Enjoy your stay in Indonesia and have a pleasant and safe trip. Cheers, Roy.

Hey guys, been reading this entry and it reminded me very much of my time at Bukit Lawang and Danau Toba a few months ago. I especially liked your eye for details in this one - the massive amounts of luggage the peoplel always seem to carry, the smoking, the "guides" just selling drugs - I can relate to all of this... :-) Safe travels, Ben

Coral Grand Divers Resort - From: Dale has a PADI while Sophie soaks it up...
Hi Lou We stayed at the Coral Grand resort which is the far end of Sairee Beach and yes it was lovely! It's a little walk from the Bars and restaurants (most do BBQ's at night) so there are ones more in the middle.. just take a walk down the little path behind the beach and take your pick as most of them are really nice. Shopping there isn't so great so I'd save that for Bangkok if you want to get things.. it's mostly snorkels and sarongs in Koh Tao! Have a fabulous time it is a lovely island.

Khone Falls - From: Laos says R E L A X....
I've vacation in Laos so many times. The scenery and view are awesome! The 4000 islands is peaceful and secluded. I love the quietness of it all. It's not crowded or overpopulated like China or Vietnam. It's very spacious. Have they build a large hotel or bungalows yet? Has any companies invested in Laos? I would like to see more modern roads and freeways too. I love Laos

Perhenthian - From: Experiencing Hell to reach Heaven...
What a funny story! My BF and I were there in June and had a hard time too finding a place to stay, but at least we could find one! What a funny and memorable experience your night on the beach, you guys are braver than me! What killed me about that island was that even when you get a place to stay, they are relatively crappy. I overheard lots of stories of people talking about unwanted varmin in their chalets! Yuck! Luckily that didnt happen to us! Seems like they will have to step up their accomodations a notch especially with growing popuilarity! Hope you guys check out the Cameron Highlands too, very beautiful and a nice break from the heat;) Enjoy your trip, Cheers! Leah O.

Hey Lynne.. yes you are right there does always seem to be a distinct lack of men in these villages.. we did see 2 but one was sleeping snoring his head off! Having said that when we visited the tribes in Sapa the ladies did say that the men do work all day leaving the women to sell handicrafts etc... not sure who has it harder though as they still have to do all their housework too?
