Looks like it has been a beautiful day outside but I just stayed in my room and took it easy. My computer was crashing every few seconds yesterday but today is working just fine although a little slow. Maybe it was just having a bad day. It is sure nice to not HAVE to do anything when you want. So guess I will just drink my tea and think things over and catch up on some light homework. ... read more

Tuesday Oct 18 The Springs - It got cold last night. Down below freezing but it has warmed up to about 46 degrees now which is actually comfortable with a light jacket. I took my truck to a repair shop and looks like I am going to get hammered on the repair but that’s how it goes sometimes. We were aware of the problem on the oil cooler line but I chose to go with it as it is because I needed to get to Albuquerque in time for the balloon fest. It would probably have cost me about the same to fix it at home as both I and my brother in law Bill are getting too old to be working on cars or trucks and I would have had to take it to a ... read more

Monday Oct 17 Colorado Springs My electrical taping up of the oil cooler line held up great from Scott’s Bluff to Denver , 350 miles It sure made it easier for me by letting me make it to a place I could deal with repairing it at my leisure. I thought I would stay in Denver but couldn't find a room I liked at a price I was willing to pay and I guess I really don't like huge cities anymore. I'm back in the springs again and paid up through tonight. I'll probably sign up for another week here this evening and be here through next Monday at least. I drove South out of Denver on Hwy 85 instead of the interstate yesterday afternoon. That's a beautiful drive. This time of year all the trees ... read more

Saturday Oct 15 and Sunday Oct 16 - After a good nights rest at Julesburg I took a U turn at Ogallala after driving around in it a bit as the only reason I wanted to go there is because it was featured in the movie Lonesome Dove. I then headed back Northwest to Scotts Bluff , Neb. I toured the Morman trail, Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff and went to Register Cliff in Wyoming then was planning on heading north on Hwy 85 to the Black Hills but had a oil cooler line leak in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. October 16 Scotts Bluff to Colorado Springs.... Overnighted in Scotts Bluff last night at the SuperWalmart 3322 Ave I at Hwy 26 . I found a pool of Oil under my truck in the morning and found ... read more

October 14- Friday Stopped in Denver and met my Nephew's fiance Lauren at a restaurant in Arvada. They had a pretty good Angus, Swiss, and mushroom burger and very tasty fries. We split the tab and Lauren left a hefty tip. While waiting for her to get off work I explored the area near the restaurant and found where the library was located. It is a nice library with lots of tables for wireless internet. Hopefully I will get another chance to visit there after the snow flies. On the way to Denver I made a side trip exploring the Pike National Forest. It was nice but I bet it gets very crowded in summer being this close to Denver. There must have been a big fire there last summer. Thousands of acres of forest are ... read more

October 13 Thursday Colorado Springs I slept in till 0700 this morning and decided to invest another day visiting Colorado Springs. Pretty much everywhere I am going to I am revisiting but I am able to do so at a much more leisurely pace and that has made all the difference. The weather has been ideal and the air is fresh. This motel is ideally situated for exploring the springs and at $40.36 a night hard to beat. Of course that is off season rates. The advantage of doing the opposite of what everyone else does can hardly be overestimated. Colorado City and Colorado Avenue is just a short walk north up 26th street. There is a bus stop on 25th street. The bus runs between the downtown terminal and Manitou Springs. The regular rate is ... read more

October 12 - Wednesday - Today I went by 7 falls and Garden of the Gods again and explored Colorado Avenue where the restaurants and shops are located. At 7 falls I did not walk the 224 steps to the top of the falls but instead took the elevator to the observation post and took pictures from there. The weather was ideal. Tomorrow I will head up to Denver. ... read more

October 11, 2011 Tuesday Colorado Springs I got up early this morning not out of any particular desire to get up early as I was snug in my hotel room but because after camping out a while you get to going to bed when it gets dark and so wake up early. I invested from around 5AM till Noon sorting out pictures and updating my travel blog. I also did some homework on "The Springs" as natives call Colorado Springs and found out where a good buffet was located. I try to eat at a buffet that has a good salad bar often so I can get some leafy greens and other raw vegetables into my diet whenever possible. I found that the Golden Corral Buffet was located at 1970 Waynoka Road off of N. Powers ... read more

Sunday Oct 9, 2011 I watched the morning events at the balloon fest from the parking lot of the Sandia Casino and a convenience store nearby while getting gas. Then drove up to a rest area south of Santa Fe and took a nap to make up for getting up so early. I then drove through Santa Fe and on the low road to Taos and then eastward towards Raton. The mountains and stopping to look at things slowed me down and I didn't make it as far as I wanted and ended up overnight parking in the mountains in the Carson National Forest just west of Angel Fire, New Mexico. I overnight parked at the Elliot Barker Trailhead parking lot West of Angel fire on BLM land. Free of course. It got down to about ... read more

Saturday Evening Oct 8 Went to the Balloon fiesta Saturday evening and they had the "Night Magic Glow" followed by fireworks. It was really an impressive display and I really enjoyed it. Then I went back up the hill to Sandia Resorts Casino and got a good nights sleep. I decided I would watch the next mornings events from there. ... read more
