Need time
- From: A toast to new adventures and new friends
NOw, because the Dalai Lama has denounced the trade, the CHinese authorities are not. They have stoped enforcing it, because if they did enforce, they would be siding with the DL. And this is only a minute part of the Tibet and CHinese government issue... ----------------------------------------------- I don't think Chinese Gov supports the animal trade. I do not where you get the incorrect information. Actually Chinese Gov crackdown the illegal animal trade(such as antelopes) severely. China is very complicated and still a poor country and only a small amount Chinese can enter into college. The culture is different from western. I think it's normal there are some bad/abnormal sth. Just need time to change those, step by step.

You are a kind person.
- From: Lhasa
From your blog, I think you love Tibet and Tibetans. So do I (I am a Han Chinese). But in history(from Yuan Dynasty), Tibet is part of China. Please check the history of China. Noon of official maps indicate Tibet is/was a independent country? None of countries recognize Tibet as a independent country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Qing_Dynasty_1820.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ROC_Administrative_and_Claims.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:China_administrative.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qing_Dynasty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_China http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Republic_of_China For Dalai Lama, I can't believe him. He said he just wants autonomy. But there is no difference between his "autonomy" and independence.

Glad to see the beauty of Vietnam - From: Letter to Vietnam
Kristen, Thanks for the memories. I was in Vietnam in '69 for a year. Between battles, I enjoyed to beauty of both the people and the countryside. I spent most of my time northwest of Saigon with about two months in Cam Ranh Bay at the hospital on the beach. Enjoy your travels, wish I had been able to do that when I was younger.

Take care and keep safe, we all anxiously await your next missve.

Stupid Tourists - From: A beauty unknown to me, until now...
Hey Kristen, Great blog entry, sounds like you're having a great time. I totally sympathize with your frustrations over insensitive tourists, some of your comments really rang true with me. It's really ignorant for people to think that just because they are on holiday that they don't have to worry about how their actions affect others, especially when they have different culutral norms to think about. I definetly feel ashamed of fellow travellers sometimes too. Anyways, just wanted to comment about that, stay well, and if you're in Seoul let me know and we'll have a drink. Peace, Matty

the Westerner Welcome (WW) - From: Urumqi
Hey Kristen!!! I am glad to here that you did not get too shafted with your pick pocket welcome that most Westerner's have. I was super paranoid with my first WW, where I was plagued with worry because of the Chinese face on my ID. You must be stealthy like a cat . . . Miss you!!! Love the pics & you tales!!!
