Thank you for sharing. The poverty is a huge problem.I felt the same about the people there and knowing that there's nothing you can really do to help is just depressing. It leaves a bitter taste and it makes you feel guilty that you were born in a different part of the world. But India as a country offers such a diversity and seeing it is an amazing experience. Before going though there are some things everyone should consider. I travel back and forth from England to India and I've had accommodation problems in the past therefore now I always call beforehand to confirm my reservation. Calling to confirm might be a bit pricey but I use a call service which provides cheap calls to India - it's fast, easy to use and cheap and you will be on the safe side when it comes to accommodation. Also, one should be careful with the public display of affection - it's not appreciated. Once again - thank you for sharing. Im sure that you would visit again if you have the chance.

confused? I did not realize until too late that I was supposed to be reading and commenting on your jpurnal. Now it is almost time for you to dock and I could not find your latest entry. When you get to San Diego and see your famiily everything will seem so different. You will probably be a little homesick for ship life and trravels. Then of course there are new adventures awaiting you in Colorado. I can not wait to see you and hear about my Tea cup!! Christmas?? When we used to sail, it was hard to walk on land but you will not have that problem. Get a super size Fosters Freeze Ice cream (vanilla) can not be beat!! See you soon Love Be good Enjoy!!!

grams! i dont get your comments so often because of our crappy internet. its easier to talk to you if you email me at afharris@semesteratsea.net i love you!
me again two? Can I do that with the message? Just saw your comment that you are getting my "blog". I am learning so much about smashers. Probably have blogged everybody on your ship. At least I can not be their Grandmother. It really does sound wonderful all the things you are learning and doing. And it is a pretty wonderful world isn't it?
Do not forget the ice creams along the way!! Ha Ha!!! Much Love
school sounds like you are having fun and also learning about geography and people of the world. We (the people)re all just about the same? Have a good time and also be careful both on the ship and in the ports.
I enjoy the pictures you send too.
Love you much
Island girl..world traveler..i dream of Genie when you get to India? I want to be a life learner! Get me info! I want to hang out with college kids, sight see, be a family on the holidays to some "poor lost student", and so on and so on. I think I might know of half of dozen others that want to do it too:)
Wonderful photos. You look good and healthy. How are the malaria pills going? I can't wait to print photos and put them in your creative memory book. I bought lots of stickers from the many places you are visiting. Can you send me copies of the emails you send the 5th grade class?
Take care and keep the blogs coming....tell us about your "shipboard family" and what that is all about. Maybe a photo and an email so I can say thanks to them for being there for you during this trip and holiday time.
Lots of hugs and kisses and you should get a package after India.
me again I will not be giving you my "words of wisdom" every time I write you. I think I have learned to "blog" you and just wanted to say hello. You seem to be smart enough on your own. Enjoy your day either on ship or shore. Life is just a big box of candy (no, ICE CREAM CONE) different flavors though so enjoy all of them!!!!
me again just checking to see if you are getting my messages. We all miss you but this is the trip of a lifetime. I know you are learning many new things. Take care of yourself and have fun that comes with all this world has to offer And I know you will remember your responsibility to this wonderful world too!!!
believe I hope I am doing this correctly. I am so excited for you. Do embrace all that you are seeing and learning. You will never forget. And the adventures give you so much depth of character that you would never get anywhere else and you will also understand some of the world problems. Hope you get this message. Will try to write more later if you do.
Shiplife Oh Ashleigh, you are so cute. I can only imagine what you are doing and how you live each day. How wonderful for you and the others to be able to bring a smile to a childs face, or give them the food they need and you take for granted. You are remarkable and this trip has to be the same. I can only imagine what this next port is going to be like. Cage diving with sharks? Are you sure? Please check the equipment and if it doesn't look right, feel right, then it isn't. I will anxiously be awaiting to hear from you after that and the bunjee jump. Get some rest, ship dr. should help with some cold medicine. Soup is always good.
We love you. Pray for you and your safe voyage and compassion when you are visiting the places on your trip. I know it is a shock to you.
hugs and kisses,
mom and dad
Moroc Trip Hhhmmm....sounds like you are experiencing so much. I bet it is hard to take it all in. Will I even know you when you arrive in San Diego at port? Again, it is great to read about your trips and thoughts about the places and people you are visiting. Take care of yourself sweet p!
We think about you and keep you in our prayers each night.
Stay safe and smart.

Saw your folks yesterday Hey Ashleigh,
Went over to your house yesterday and saw you folks. Your mom is doing really well.....she got out of bed really quickly and hopped onto her walker and away she went.....she is sooooo excited about getting around now and with no pain in her hip other than the healing aspects. I took a second pool filter pump over for your dad to use..(old one died) Or did it. We used a rock, hit the old one a few times......pools up and running again. Your folks tell us your off to South Africa for some Great White diving experience...sounds fun. Karen and I are following the blogs so keep them coming. Have fun and be smart when out and about !

I am currently a junior at Colorado State University! Go Rams. This semester I am lucky enough to go around the world. I am going abroad doing Semester at Sea. I board the boat in Halifax, Canada. I then travel to Spain, Morocco, Ghana, Mauritius, India, Singapore, Viet Nam, China, and finally Japan. I make one last stop in Hawaii before docking in San Diego. I will be gone for just about three months. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I cannot wait for it to begin!
