Land of the long white cloud
Hello D & MJ NZ seems such a long time ago now but we do have good memories of it. And that is what we hope our blog is all about, even in our dotage. That van was a shock - the picture when we booked was not that one - but we forgot what it looked like when we were in it. Until we saw other people's reactions. Thank you again for a lovely evening to commemorate the end of our trip. Hope you enjoyed Santa Cruz. Look forward to staying in touch and seeing you again in the not-too-distant future.

MJ here
I was reading a few of our original blogs this morning and decided I would check out the beginning of your three year adventure. I really enjoyed this blog. When we make it back to NZ we will take that mail run.....sounds like a great time. The bit about Punakaiki brought back some wonderful memories. We were impressed with that area. I like the angle of the photo you took in Kaikora. We miss you and will read more of your older blogs. Hopefully you will get home safely. Please keep in touch with your new friends. Keep us posted on your future travels and hopefully we can join you.

Hello Chris and Nikki
Thank you for your comment. Glad you like the photo. Coming from tropical Australia, we tend to get a bit excited about snow, especially as we're going back soon and won't see any more snow and ice for a long time.

What wonderful pictures. I enjoyed reading your blog and the way you paint such a vivid picture with words. Although it isn't in this particular blog, the post office story in BA had me howling. I can't wait to read more of your stories.

Yosemite western entrance
This way in is pretty good too. El Capitan sort of takes the breath away - another time to ponder the strength of nature. I can also attest that it is possible to do SF - Yosemite - SF in one day, although a long one.

Wimping out?
Probably not classified as wimping out when there's snow on the ground. And nice haircut.

You had me laughing on this one.
When you said you were heading for Flagstaff I knew you had not done your homework on the elevation. Flagstaff gets very cold and windy. The canyon is very nice isn't it? You've seen a lot of nice country side. Vegas....well, what can you say, they spend too much money on lights and I hate the dinging bells of the slots...the constant noise is awful. But, Vegas is fun in short periods.

Sorry about the cold weather
I'm glad that you were able to see most of what you wanted with a little backtracking. For me the geology of the West is the most beautiful part of our country. Glad you were able to see it.

This blog made me very nostalgic for my home state. If you see a gig that you guys like, I'm sure you'll enjoy the acoustic experience at Red Rocks. :)

Most people have misconceptions
Yes, a large part of Colorado is flat farm land. Just as everyone thinks San Francisco is as warm as Los Angeles. Ha ha. America is full of surprises. Can't wait to hear your other impressions.

Brisvenice used to have a river walk - and it was awesome. That was, untill it was taken from us. Still, at least it allowed us to acquire the name Brisvenice... Win some, lose some.

River Walk
I have to tell you that the BrisVenice one has a way to go. Bigger river though. They did the one in San Antone partly to reduce floods.

Really enjoyed your commentary
Texas is unique. I lived in Lubbock for a bit and Dave and I lived in San Antonio for a summer. I have relatives in Austin and a few small towns. See you soon!

Texas etc
We did enjoy Texas but didn't see as much of it as we would have wished. Looking forward to your stories of Morocco.

riverwalk
Ahhh yes, very pleasant memories rekindled of large frozen margueritas on the Riverwalk on a hot dry day in Sanantone (Texans tend to leave the io off). Such an inventive means of making the best of a drainage ditch!

Hi Pete. David is very keen to get a resonator guitar (BTW saw a resonator dulcimer the other day) and I wouldn\'t mind one either, but we do have to think about luggage on the plane. That said, though, we could end creating a family heirloom if we spot something nice. Not sure he really appreciates how much time I would need to spend on stringed instruments each day.

I\'ve got my grandmother\'s dulcimer resting safely and awaiting restoration... At the risk of being unhelpful (apologies David), I reckon it would be quite a shame if you didn\'t acquire a dobro (though I myself would go for a duolian resonator). I\'ve been looking into them thanks to AUD doing so well... but I thnk our guitar to floor area ratio is probably high enough for the moment...

We definitely plan to visit Texas, but just not sure yet how to balance that big state with the limited time we have left. Thanks William for the tips (we both love Mexican food).

Texas is like a whole other country.
I hope you work Texas into your trip, and especially San Antonio. There is more to do and see in San Antonio than you can possibly do. If you make it to the Riverwalk I highly reccomend the Original Mexican Restaurant which is open 24/7. This is the best time of year by far to visit Texas.

Hi Klaire, hi Pete
Thanks for the info about the Radiator Building. Probably would have found out if we had actually walked to it but ... And you're right about appropriateness at Kidaman Creek. No new bags so far Klaire. The one in the NYC photos is Pat's daypack, back in use when rain gear, water, cameras etc all need to be carried just in case! That is not to say that new bags won't appear in the future!
