Misleading Picture
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that leafy green is actually a not-so-green Tim Tam. At least it better have been, because I'm pretty sure it was supplied by your mum. Had it been otherwise, that would have been a very empty donut packet on my lap.

Historical Wonder
Given that it was only 1781 at the time, am I to take it that 1781 Dirk Hartog was, in fact, aboriginal? Strange name for a local fella. A more likely conclusion is that Charles Logan needs to brush up on Australian history a bit. An even likelier conclusion is that I have completely lost my sense of humour.

man vs bike vs australian flora and plants
UNBELEIVABLE- I had my own trip down memory lane when reading this entry. I didn't have to travel very far down the lane tho. On tuesday i went for a bikeride too... on my way to dight's falls I battled up this off road, some would say "gnarly" hill thinking to myself "come on wogs power up this hill and on the way back you can dommolish it." 1 hour later i returned to claim my reward on the hill, putting it into top gear and slaming the pedals...... MALVERN STARS AREN'T MOUNTAIN BIKES. I soon realised my peril and as you said put the brakes on and skidded of the gravel into the surrounding woodlands. the only difference in our stories was that u stayed on and i became more aquainted with at least 3 members of the eucalypt family. more of a story then a comment. have fun in canberra get a photo of you standing infront of parliment in a trenchcoat and tie, holding a mic.

Political Marketing
The cute blonde lady on the front of the brochure had a big smile on her face when they wanted people to join the Nazi Party too (as well as being blonde, she also had blue eyes and perfect Aryan lineage). Worked a charm, apparently...

Baking biscuits
I can just see you sitting on a picnic table in sleepy Merimbula after ordering what the local bakery claims to be the "best vanilla slice this side of Pambula", taking in the idyllic surrounds and sucking in the fresh country air, before being assaulted by a gang of intimidating and unruly kookaburras in a brazen but calculated attack. Thats the thing about travelling by yourself, you dont have anyone to laugh at you when you squeal and drop it all over yourself. Speaking of bakeries, you have to pick a product and eat it and compare it at every town you go, eg. vanilla slice, pie, tim gossage roll etc. Swifts creek bakery is the unofficial (ie. my) benchmark to work from. Have a cracker mate!

Weird and Wacky
Hi Mark Sounds like you are having an interesting time and you are only 7 hours out of Melbourne when you stayed at Merimbula. I wish l had know that you were staying there, my parents have a holiday unit there on the Fish Pen Road. You could have stayed there for as long as you liked, maybe next time. Are you going to catch up with Mark Vergano when you are in Canberra? If you don't have his details let us know and l will forward them onto you. Had dinner with Mum and Dad last week, it is always good to catch up with them. I better go and get ready for Mitcham have there AGM tonight and l suppose l should go. Dick of course is coaching cricket tonight up at Topline, he is coaching 3 night a week up there, who said cricket season is over!!!!. Really look forward reading your emails. Take Care and Keep Warm. Love Roz

Nice segue indeed
So your blog has the dubious honour of being the second place I have seen the word "segue" written down. It's one of those words that gets bandied about a fair bit but which doesn't appear much in general literature (Joyce's "Ulysses", the 1988 Preliminary Final Football Record etc.). Up until a couple of months ago I was still labouring under the misapprehension that it was spelt "segway". Maybe I didn't concentrate in French class as much as I should've. Sounds like all is "well" down in Gippsland (one without any water anyway). Any chance that you'll swing by Lake Wendouree to check on the form of the big fella, "Maxie"? Apparently Dermie's done the maths, and you can generally go about 4-5 seconds without kicking to a contest in Ballarat footy. Looking forward to the next entry. p.s. a litre of petrol costs 23c in Saudi Arabia.

Simmo, your linguistic skills are impressive. Looking forward to your next entry. Its not often i get to have a laugh whilst at work. Sure, pulling cones behind the school gym with the year 9 girls is a laugh. But marijuana only last so long.

Fare thee well
Going on a trip around Australia is a lot like housekeeping. First you strip the bed, then you put the two sheets on it, then the blanket then the bedspread then the pillow. Then if it is an ensuite you clean the bathroom thoroughly, starting with the shower screen. The bed signifies when you sleep on your journey and the shower symbolises when you have a shower on your journey. See, dont let anyone ever tell you trips arent like housekeeping. The blog is a great idea, so interactive. Have you bought a train hat yet? Investing in a good train hat and a notepad and pen are the best pickup tools you can buy, it gives you the look of an enigmatic and mysterious writer without the hard work of doing any writing. Have a great trip and we will hopefully catch up at Byrons Bay. PS. Im writing this from work on the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro SVGA '91 Edition so dont be surprised that instead of letters all you can see are little pacmen, space invaders and shufflepuck cafe characters.

Too early to think of one
Just wanted to let you know that it seems you have a bit of a writing flair! Very descriptive! I can't wait 'til you write your own auto biography- I'm sure you'll have plenty to write about after this trip! Look after yourself- did you buy yourself a Dundee knife for the trip? If that was me going- I would have machete packed! (but that's me) Have loads of fun! Mel.C xoxoxo

good luck wishes from the uk
Glad the day and night went well - a trademark simpson/corstorphin finish to the evening, nice work! Enjoy your trip, i'm looking forward to the updates. My only advice would be to take a leaf from steven bradbry's book and just sit back a few paces while on tour and stay out of trouble. You dont know who might fall over just in time for you to cash in! Cheers Duckman
