April 5, 6 &7 - Hilton Head, South Carolina --- The RV parks we choose keep getting better - the Hilton Head RV Resort in South Carolina is phenomenal. The azaleas are in bloom and our site has a hedge of them. Great pool, hot tub, etc. Beautiful landscaping. Snack bar until early afternoon. The only thing that might be missing is the nice Tikki Bar and pub food we enjoyed at the RV Park we stayed at in Sarasota. April 7 to Savannah from Hilton Head via water taxi. Signed up for a historic tour via trolley. Good narrators - [View Full Entry]

April 4 - Albany to Tampa via Philadelphia - an hour delay out of Philly. Arrived in Tampa - no Mustang - oh well - to Butterfly Farm to PU The Schooner. To Brandon to PU groceries and return rental car. On the way to Sun City from the Butterfly Farm we happened upon a stray baby bull running down the road - he was so cute. He was rounded up and returned to his ranch with a little help from the cowboys and the RV. We stayed at a Flying J (truck stop that welcomes RVers) near Dade City for [View Full Entry]

Here are some of the real gems & highlights of our Florida trips. The beaches of Sanibel and Captiva deserve their great reputation. You estimate how much time you want to stay at each and pay to park accordingly. Most have bath houses for changing. All have restrooms. The shelling is wonderful. We did the Sanibel walk - slightly stooped over to spot shells. Beach shoes and a container for collected shells will add to your comfort. Great spot for sunsets. The Bailey Mathews Shell Museum and the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, both at Sanibel are interesting for all age [View Full Entry]

Fire Ants, Ruby the Sewer Hose Support Seller & a Jar of Adolph’s I got into fire ants. Never felt a thing, which I will explain later. I began to itch like the dickens and couldn’t figure out the cause until some Floridians met casually spied the giant welts and said, “Oh, you got into fire ants.” Some said, “Squeeze the welts until the “poison” seeped out.” Others said, “Suck out the venom as if treating snake bite.” Still others advised, “spit on them,” “black coffee enemas,” “eye of newt dis [View Full Entry]

It’s all because of hurricane Wilma that we got a taste of Fantasy Fest in Key West. The annual tribute to “Freaks, Geeks, and Goddesses” was postponed from its normal (that’s an odd word to use here) dates in October because of the big storm. So we arrived absolutely clueless (admitting we never even heard of Fantasy Fest) and got a big surprise. The guy at the Visitor’s Center tried to explain the event. Said he, “Well, there will be people promenading up and down Duval Street dressed (and undressed) in all sorts of accessories and costumes.” Th [View Full Entry]

We loved our RV park, Cypress Woods, in Fort Myers, Florida. The "lots" are all owned - similar to a condo scenerio. When not in use the owners can put their lots into a rental pool (that would be us!). Because they are "owned" there is a great deal of pride taken in landscaping the individual lots. The look is wonderful. The RVs are often interspersed with attractive, compact "manufactured" homes along winding streets so the total effect is like a neighborhood. A little "sanitized" but a nice balance to some of our funkier destinations. One of our reasons for picking [View Full Entry]

While they are efficient and we can’t do without them, Interstate Highways are infinitely boring! In need of a break from the monster road and seeking a good slug of scenic local highway, we exited I-95 just south of Jacksonville and headed for coastal highway A1A and the Guana River State Park and Ponte Vendra Beach areas. What a treat! Wild dunes, shell-filled beach, and only a few people enjoying this spot on a sunny Sunday afternoon. One couple was surf casting and a young family was playing in the sand. That was it for miles in both directions! There were [View Full Entry]

We loved Williamsburg. So well done and surprisingly non-commercial. Very interesting, well-trained docents interpreting 18th century and Williamsburg history. Highly authentic. Candlelight dinners and Colonial menus each night. Colorful torch light fife & drum parade, nice evening of Colonial entertainment with spirits and games at one of the taverns, an exceptional tour of John D. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller's home (they financed the revitalization - such vision), and much more! Great tour guide at "Shirley Plantation" the largest plantation on the James River near Richmond, Vir [View Full Entry]

We are among those travelers who caught on to TravelBlog through the recent New York Times feature. We are "on the road" bringing our 34 ft. motor home to its "winter home" in Fort Myers, Florida from Mohawk Valley Marina in Schenectady, NY. We are very new to RV-ing and are having fun learning the ropes. Our first night out was spend "dry camping" at a Flying J (truck stop) in Pennsylvania. We have found this to be a very secure, effiicient, and economical way to overnight en route. We are now at an RV park near Williamsburg, VA for two [View Full Entry]
