The school, for some reason, never has toilet paper. It is absurd. To quote a great children’s book, “Everybody Poops.” More than that though, people pee and blow their noses and need to clean up small spills. I am tempted to rally the troupes and start a T.P. fund so that no more will people find themselves mid-go and turn to see an empty dispenser. I asked the custodial staff and they said, “없어요,” which means, “There is none.” Sweet. Well, I will keep pondering this potential fundraising idea and move on to a more sanitary topic& [View Full Entry]

Laura's Crap Art...
Winston

Friday night was pretty sweet, minus the lack of sleep. For two weekends in a row now my head has hit the pillow on at least one night after 4am... I had another 회 식 (celebration). This time we headed to a hotel with parents and teachers and administrators. It happened to be the same hotel I stayed at when I interviewed new teachers for Gyeongsangbuk-do... We ate. There was so much food. It was unreal. We ate. We ate more. Then my coie asked, "So what time is yoga?" I looked at him, through my food lanced haze and said, [View Full Entry]

Yesterday was awesome. It was a day of celebration 8:30-4:30: WORKED. We had our 회식 (celebration) for the new teachers class. It was a pretty good turn out. There were 6 teachers and lots of food and coffee and tea^^ We introduced ourselves, talked a little bit about what we hope to get out of the class, and talked about the 회식 that was happening later in the day, after school. I also got to head to tne nutritionists office in the afternoon and hang out. It is one of my favorite places in all of South Korea. Haha. I feel [View Full Entry]

THE WORD 'MAYBE'-- "Maybe" in South Korea has a different meaning than maybe in the United States. In Korea 'maybe' means that there is a high likelihood of whatever the subject is, occuring. It is a way of talking about the future, when there is a high probability of occurance. It is used very frequently here when Koreans use English. "Maybe" prefaces many statements about the future and actions that are in fact expected to happen. EXAMPLE: "Maybe you will have no class today." (You don't have class today.) "Maybe you will have English camp during vacation." (You will have winter [View Full Entry]

This weekend I found myself in Pohang hanging out with yoga folk at a little house with lots of good energy... The camp was not what I expectedit to be, but I ejoyed it. We ate a lot of food and had a party on Saturday night that lasted well into the morning, like 5am status. We meditated, did some asanas, played some games, and used Netti pots (well, I took pictues of people using the pots^^). It was the first time in 8 or 9 months since I have touched my camera. I am rusty for sure, but it felt [View Full Entry]

It is really funny in retrospect to think of my current job. I spend maybe, 25 hours a week sitting at a desk. I just sit and bide my time... Lesson planning, interwebbing, drinking coffee and tea... Before coming here, in finding my last job, I was adamant about not having a desk job... Fearing I'd go stir crazy or just walk away, but this job has changed my opinion... I still hate the idea of total sedentary existence and I know full well that this is taking a toll on my health, buuuut, this job rocks and my students are [View Full Entry]

Half way through my first contract. Crazy. I am still a little in disbelief that it has been 6 months. I am still in love with this place. I missed it while I was in Thailand and Cambodia. It was such a pleasure to come back and be surrounded by all things Korean again... I just attended my first 입학식 (opening ceremony) and it was awesome. The new first years look so young against the 2nd and third years. I begin teaching tomorrow or maybe Thursday, who knows. I love being back. The energy here is so good. As soon as [View Full Entry]

I feel a little out of it. This happened last Saturday also and it resulted in the realization that I had the blues. I hope that isn't what is happening again. I came home last Saturday night bummed. It was aweful. The catalyst was seating arrangements. I was told to switch seats with someone after I had had a little to drink and I was pulled out of my comfort zone. It was like, woah, red flag, why did this upset me and then it was that whole realization experience, figuring out that the incident was just nicking the surphase of [View Full Entry]
