A sunrise I was so relieved to see
A sunrise I was so relieved to see
the morning after one of the scariest nights OF MY LIFE!
Ok so here's how it is. I've been seriously lax in updating my blog for a few reasons, the major one being lack of decent internet access. Other reasons involve the kind of lifestyle Ive been leading here, its pretty laidback and by that I mean lazy. Sorry to anyone who was previously glued to my regular entries (which Im sure are of limited numbers!). Im afraid I wont be able to go into too much detail for the happenings of the past 5 weeks because Tanduay (local rum) has ruined my brain and thus my memory. Im here in the [View Full Entry]

We arrived at Savannakhet at 2am slightly concerned that we'd be kipping in the bus station til sunrise, however, we decided to take our chances and walk the 300 metres into town to try and find a guesthouse. Thankfully there was one almost directly across from the bus station and luckily there was a late footie match on so the Laos dudes were still up. Our room was the nicest one we'd had for a long while with a hot shower and cable tv!!! Bonza. So we took full advantage and watched the american spelling bee channel(!). Savannakhet was pretty chilled [View Full Entry]

Since my last entry its been a rather interesting time, and this is kind of the reason why its taken me so long to write. Unfortunately I had some health troubles in Vientiane and some scrapes I got on my arm (from falling off a motorbike in Vang Vieng) got badly infected. Im not sure how this happened, could have been the river water, my low immune system from hitting the booze so hard in Vang Vieng or the basic fact that Im a stinky traveller who leaves days between washing ;-) Regardless, it really hurt and it scared the beejeezus [View Full Entry]

Man this place is insane, all you can really do here is go tubing and get drunk. So its now day 6 and Ive had my fill of both.....not so say that it hasnt been fun but its certainly taken it's toll on the ole body... consequently there isnt much to write cause Ive spent most of the time being drunk, asleep or in the river. Although, we did manage to rent bikes one day and cycle out to see a cave and 'lagoon'. The climb to the cave was real steep and slippery and I could almost feel the panic [View Full Entry]

Beautiful Laos

Asia » Laos » West » Luang Prabang
Laos is pretty amazing, after we got off the slow boat to Luang Prabang we stayed there for around 6 days, 3 of which were spent on a trek. The trek was ace but sooooo hard. We biked on day one for around 5 hours in the blistering heat, but it was ok cause there was usually a breeze and there was a lot of fast downhills parts. On day two it was the trek and it started off just fine....but then we started this uphill climb which I immediately found nigh-on impossible, I asked Tong (our guide) how long it [View Full Entry]

Oh my Jeff

Asia » Thailand » North » Chiang Mai
Oh dear, I dont know whats worse.....that he left me or that I only realised 4 days after the fact. Jeff's gone and I guess he won't be coming back. He left me at the lahu village. I remember seeing him flirt with this lady but I don't recall seeing him after that. He must have slipped out to escape when I wasn't looking. Jeff, if you are reading this, I hope you are happy and that you made the right decision. Lyns my dear, Im sorry but he clearly wasn't the one for me. Maybe SHE is taking better care [View Full Entry]

Asia » Thailand » North » Chiang Mai
Jungle trekking is the way forward indeed. got back at around 4.30pm yesterday, sweaty, dirty and so damn satisfied. I was so proud of myself for hauling my ass around a jungle for three days. There were hairy moments when I thought I may go into panic attack mode but NO I didn't and I feel so much stronger for it! The only thing was that we all wanted more trekking on the trip so we are getting a privately organised tour together for us 5 people (pending others) to go on a 5 day trek further North. On day one, [View Full Entry]

Crazy Bangkok
Crazy Bangkok
Maybe too tired to really appreciate this...
Ok so I've found that I'm spending a LOT of time writing each blog and uploading pics so Im gonna do it in smaller, more frequent installments and see how I go. Very organised of you Lizzie indeed I hear you say. Chiang Mai rules and Im so glad I decided to leave Bangkok with Dan and come here. I was so depressed after my 2hour hunt up Kao San Road for suitable, affordable digs only top give up and stay in a pretty pricey guesthouse. I reckon my perception of Bangkok was a little warped because of that and so [View Full Entry]

Back on Ko Samui now. This past week has been pretty amazing, stayed on Ko Tao for roughly 6 nights (can't really remember!) and then headed back to Ko Pha Ngan to check out some Eastern bays before Dan has to catch his flight back home from Bangkok :-( We hired mountain bikes and popped up to the North-West of Ko Tao to check out Ko Nang Yuan (three little islands connected by a sand bar). Kinda wished we had made it over there so looking at it was a close second. However, the mixture of mid-day heat, uphill climbs and [View Full Entry]

I can't believe its only day 10. I feel like I've been here a year... Over the past couple of days its truly sinking in what Im doing and its scary yet pretty exciting. It's been pretty full-on since I got here, spending no more than two nights in each accommodation and this is the first chance I've had to slow down the pace and reflect a little. Im not sure if thats been a good thing however cause now I am pretty scared indeed. I guess the catalyst for that was three of our little group lleft this morning leaving [View Full Entry]
