Part One - Road Trippin & Teary Moments Running a wee bit late for flight but thankfully they brought me to the front of the line at check-in. Easy 3-4 hour journey over, the idea was to get a free shuttle car to hotel and meet Mum and Murdo there. I’d spent the past week thinking about seeing my mum and letting a tear out here and there..as I got closer to seeing her I was so emotional. As I arrived and was heading to collect baggage I noticed the familiar long dark hair and huge smile. We ran to each other as if it had been 10 years and not 10 months, gripping onto each other and sobbing with delight. It was a great feeling to see my mum again oh yes it was. So, ... read more

Its been a wee while because I haven’t technically been travelling but I thought I would update for those who may be interested. I also spent a wee bit of time looking over old entries and I love being able to read through them and mentally transport myself back there - keeping the blog going is what I’ma gonna do! Bristmas (Christmas in Brisbane) was pretty good as I got to see my lovely Nacky-Noo, and get to know her boyfriend and his family! Nicky & Nate live in London but had arranged to spend Christmas here and I decided that I was gonna come meet them too. Turns out it was the best decision ever cause not only did I spend Christmas with some great folks and friends, I got a place to stay in ... read more

I was planning to go to Singapore on the 1-2 day train and fly out to Brisbane....I swear my intentions were honourable. But then it all started when I said Lisa should come with me on the train, we'd have a giggle and she could explore Malaysia and possibly Indonesia. Her plan ws to stay in Thailand and head up North. So she pretty much decided within 10 minutes that she wisnae doin that and she was comin with me instead. But then, she asked a very naughty thing of me. So I said yes and re-booked my flights to Brisbane (at no extra cost - woopee!) for the 21st December so that I could see some of Malaysia with her. Man what a good idea that turned out to be. It was also an expensive ... read more

So it was a wee goodbye to Dan and back to Thailand for three weeks or so of beach bumming before having to get to Oz and work..........euch. We ended up in Krabi, a place I wanted to go first time around but didnt quite make it. I had heard that Ray Lei was a lovely little beach and I wasnt wrong. Sharon and I had difificulties in realising this at first, but then we visited Panang beach (sp?). It was a beautiful little bay with limestone backdrop and real chilled. At dusk the monkeys came out to play, as well as the bats! I've never been so close to a monkey, not even in a zoo. They just hang around on the trees and fences and people feed them bananas. They aint like the crazy ... read more

I said goodbye to my pops and made my way to Ho Chi Minh city. The journey was painless and short (a bit of a deviation from the norm!). My dad, on the other hand, had a pretty bad deal. His journey already was to be horrible with two long flights with a long wait in Bahrain but then his 2nd flight got delayed quite a few hours just to make it worse. That, coupled with his struggle to get to me in the first place just proves what a trooper he is. Thanks dad, for going to all that trouble to see lil ole me :-) SO Vietnam. A place I was supposed to be visiting in June immediately following Laos with Agnes before the snap decision to hop over to the Philippines for a ... read more

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Daddypops came with me to HK and alls I can say is THANK GAWD cause it proved to be a bit of an increase in all things financial and chaotic. After a very long journey to get there (including a crappy overnight in Manila), we arrived via the ferry from Macau. The ferry was real fast at times I wasnt sure if we were even skimming the water, I got a rather intense bout of travel sick pretty soon into the journey (but without the puking part) - even to the point that I couldnt finish my beer..... I KNOW! So by the time we had caught two trains and walked a little ways to get to our recommended hotel, they had no rooms left. So there we were, in Hong Kong with only one ... read more

After an amazing month of touring the Philippines (which was no way near long enough) I was so ready to go back to Siargao to see friends and get caught up in the competition excitement.....and I wasnt disappointed. Sooooo many people were there, 9bar was packed on most nights over the nationals and internationals and it was wicked to see some of my friends surfin in the competition. I stayed with Jing and Jazz again initially, then Rhi came and after about 1 week we split and stayed in Ocean 101 (for 2days) and then Siargao Inn (WICKED!!!) for the rest of our visit. An expensive choice but we wanted a bit of privacy and as much as it was cool living in a homestay, it was a bit awkward at times. Its safe to say ... read more

Soooooooooooo yup. When writing a blog on a monthly (or more) basis, it becomes pretty difficult to edit the stories down to a manageable load, but here goes... After a very reluctant goodbye to both Siargao and my Agnes (yes she's mine now) I ventured off again alone to explore the most amazing country I have visited yet (which can't be hard seeing as its only country no.3!). I had heard about the mountains and rice terraces up North and decided that a cool contrast to the heat would be a welcome break. Turns out that Sagada wasnt just cool, it was bloody freezing! In true Lizzie style, as I arrived, a Typhoon signal no.2 was making its way through the little mountain town. SO, I spent a pretty uncomfortable night or two struggling to sleep ... read more

Ok so here's how it is. I've been seriously lax in updating my blog for a few reasons, the major one being lack of decent internet access. Other reasons involve the kind of lifestyle Ive been leading here, its pretty laidback and by that I mean lazy. Sorry to anyone who was previously glued to my regular entries (which Im sure are of limited numbers!). Im afraid I wont be able to go into too much detail for the happenings of the past 5 weeks because Tanduay (local rum) has ruined my brain and thus my memory. Im here in the surfing capital of the Philippines and yes I have been trying to learn to surf ;-) The only problem is that I SUCK! People keep telling me it takes a long time, however, it is ... read more

We arrived at Savannakhet at 2am slightly concerned that we'd be kipping in the bus station til sunrise, however, we decided to take our chances and walk the 300 metres into town to try and find a guesthouse. Thankfully there was one almost directly across from the bus station and luckily there was a late footie match on so the Laos dudes were still up. Our room was the nicest one we'd had for a long while with a hot shower and cable tv!!! Bonza. So we took full advantage and watched the american spelling bee channel(!). Savannakhet was pretty chilled out and none-eventful but there were elements of it to enjoy - I guess its like that everywhere though, sometimes you just have to look harder to find things you like, or a particular experience ... read more
