| 15th January 2010 Shoshanaz | Prima Kings - From: Jerusalem in a day (and a half) then down to Eilat The Prima was definitely the best hotel that we stayed at on the trip, I have no idea what the cost is because it was a group subsidized trip, but the rooms were nice - although a "double" room is just one bed - the food was excellent and the location is walking distance to both Ben Yehuda street and the old city. Let me know if you have any other questions. |
| 12th January 2010 Maya | what did you think!? - From: Jerusalem in a day (and a half) then down to Eilat Hey! I saw that you stayed at the Prima Kings... what did you think of the hotel? I have heard really great things and I am planning on staying there in May... let me know your thoughts.. sounds like a cool trip to Israel! |
| 11th August 2009 Caroline | "cultural things" - From: Grenada to Isla de Ometepe the lying thing must include all of central/south america, only just so you know they probably don't consider that lying, but rather "not telling the whole truth". the whole truth most likely being that a bus schedule doesn't exist at all, but they've probably SEEN the bus come at different moments within the 10:30 to 11:30 time frame - but whether or not it will come at that exact time again, or whether or not it will even come at all, is a mystery. |
| 6th August 2009 Christa | I miss you! - From: Volcano boarding - A tale of two Shoshanas Wow, Shosh, your trip sounds amazing so far! I can't wait to see pictures! Volcano boarding sounds like THE COOLEST thing ever. I love that you got to hold a snake and that they provided a complimentary cocktail, haha. Stay safe, have fun, love you! |
| 4th August 2009 Caroline | a quiet shoshana is about as believable as a quiet caroline - From: This may finally be the country where I learn to keep my mouth shut i too was SILENT for the first 4 months of my job, it was really strange. like, didn't utter a word. then when i'd meet up with my american friends i'd talk about three times as much just to make up for it, yeah i feel really bad for them. the keyboards do take some getting used to, i still often type "_" when i want to type a question mark and there's a random portuguese letter that i always press instead of enter, but that might just be in argentina. on the note of forgetting things, i realized on the way down here after christmas that i didn't have any of my flight return information and had to call my mom from the plane to get my flight number and date only to find out that they didn't care and didn't ask me. ohhhh foreign country customs. i also forgot my bag of makeup when i came down for the first time. despite all that stuff, it sounds like you're off to a good start! keep us updated. |
| 2nd March 2009 Traci Haback | Welcome home - From: The End it's good to have you back. Here's one more thing that's better about the US- your friends. :) |
| 25th February 2009 Caroline | que buenooo - From: No shoes, no shirt, no problem i thoroughly enjoyed this post. snorkling in the islands of thailand sounds like the most amazing thing in the world, and seeing as the seafood in argentina is some of the worst i've ever had (sufficiently UN-fresh and well, let's just say, 'too fishy'-tasting) that meal of fresh red snapper and cold white wine sounds absolutely glorious. i feel your pain paying for the expensive hotel, but it sounds like you had no other option, and even though you didn't use it at least you got to see thailand go to sleep and wake up. and funny comment about the dog thing...when i was in cosquín this weekend, this dog literally followed us for about a mile, all the way from the river to my friend's house, and parked himself outside the door all day and was still there when we went to sleep that night. i think as americans we're sort of not used to the concept of "stray dogs", but here there are almost as many as there are homeless people. which is saying a lot. enjoy your last few days in SE asia!!! |
| 25th February 2009 Christa | can't wait to have you home! - From: No shoes, no shirt, no problem Shosh, I'm so glad you kept a travel blog so we could all be so up-to-date on your holiday happenings. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself (I mean how could you not ). I wish I could have slept on a beach with stray animals last night. Can't wait to see you this weekend! Have a safe trip home. |
| 24th February 2009 Traci Haback | You better have presents when you return - From: The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with noooo botttoooomm Because I'm so jealous of your awesome travels. Sounds like you had quite the feisty little bike! I don't know what else to say except that it's 28 degrees here and I'm wearing an itchy wool jacket and updating spreadsheets. You, on the otherhand, and riding all over SE Asia and eating delectible things and lounging in the sun. |
| 24th February 2009 Shoshanaz | - From: I left my heart in the Perhentian Islands Traci I LOVE your comments and look forward to them every time I update my blog, keep up the good work |
| 24th February 2009 Shoshanaz | - From: Ko Pha Ngan (pronounce Ko Pinyan kind of) Laura is the motorcycle, we met her on the road in Ko Samui (Hat Lamai) and rented her for the day, she was a cheap little bitch :) |
| 22nd February 2009 Traci Haback | Robot Art Gallery?! - From: Ko Pha Ngan (pronounce Ko Pinyan kind of) That sounds pretty cool- those Asians sure know how to embrace the future. I'm glad you didn't die on the motorcycle. Who's Laura and how did you guys meet? Anyways, have fun this last week of your trip! We longingly await your return... |
| 19th February 2009 Traci Haback | I don't know what to write here - From: 24 hours of traveling fun But your posts are really giving me faith in the goodness of man. You really have met some great sounding people along the way! Good job not getting raped (and being prepared in the off chance) adn getting to your destination! I always felt like Scarlett O'Hara when she said "I always depend on the kindness of strangers" or whatever, but in your cases and my experience; it tends to be true. |
| 19th February 2009 Traci Haback | I don't know if you'[ve noticed this yet... - From: I left my heart in the Perhentian Islands but I feel a need to comment on every single post (and I believe I'm always the first one) Those German guys sound fun and I'm so glad you seem to find good friends everywhere you go. Keep up the good times sistahhhh |
| 19th February 2009 Miracle M Lewis | You are so courageous! - From: I left my heart in the Perhentian Islands I am so happy you are sharing this journey with us; you have a wonderful story to tell and hope pictures to go along with it. I am so glad to read you are okay and you are meeting special people along the way. |
| 18th February 2009 Traci Haback | - From: Singapore Sooo, you really have become a fan of the metric system on this trip... "go native!" I suppose... Sounds like Singapore was a very relaxing and worthwhile destination, I'm glad you had fun! What's sugarcane juice taste like and what's a rose apple? ( I imagine some rose flavored aplle slices?) Keep the updates coming and PACE out~ |
| 18th February 2009 Shoshanaz | - From: Kuala Lumper - not a clever title I'm not sure I really have a "favorite place" since they are all so different but if I had to choose I would say the Perhentian Islands were incredible, and everyone is so nice and the island is so small that it's just like a little community. |
| 17th February 2009 micah | - From: Kuala Lumper - not a clever title When you find yourself completely weighed down by all the stuff you buy, just set yourself up as a vendor and spend a day selling it all back to the locals. |
| 17th February 2009 Traci Haback | - From: Kuala Lumper - not a clever title KL sounds awesome- what's been your fave so far? |
| 16th February 2009 Traci Haback | Are you going to come home a different race? - From: I'm skipping over KL and Singapore for now Because that will only make me look that much more albino... Ohh Shoshy, it sounds like you are having a most delightful time, as well as brushing up on your descriptive writing skills! What a useful combo of relaxation and prose. Enjoyyyyyy :) |
| 16th February 2009 Caroline | - From: Malaysia could stand to invest in sidewalks i saw your pictures and as i commented on facebook, they DO look exactly like the argentine buses. i hope for your sake you got a single-seater and there were no crying babies. |
| 16th February 2009 Caroline | - From: I got into Georgetown Law!! I agree with Uncle Dan, cancel the other apps. and i hate to be annoying, but am i the only one who's noticed that traci has twice spelled the word "travellor" like a brit? in american english we use one l. sorry, had to do it. |
| 16th February 2009 Caroline | - From: Stick a fork in me in fact i haven't been doing very much with excel spreadsheets lately, but i have had my fair share in the past as we all know. but i, too, hate you. the closest i get to a tropical paradise are these two fake beaches they've recently constructed at opposite ends of the city, that try to make you feel like you're at the beach by having recliner chairs, sand, and volleyball nets, and a view of the water, which is actually a small, dirty lake that you aren't allowed to go in due to health hazards. ohhh argentina. |
| 13th February 2009 Shoshanaz | - From: Stick a fork in me Excel Spreadsheets? who are you, Caroline? |
| 13th February 2009 Traci Haback | Just do it - From: Malaysia could stand to invest in sidewalks Go shopping... sounds like the excellent trip continues. I'm glad you're being safe, and it souds like those Europeans need to get it together and stop all this rif raf and risk taking! |
| 12th February 2009 Uncle Dan | Woo Hoo ! - From: I got into Georgetown Law!! Georgetown ! Very impressive. Cancel your other applications ! |
| 12th February 2009 Traci Haback | CONGRATSSSSSSS - From: I got into Georgetown Law!! 1. CONGRATS Shosh!! That's AMAZING! I'm so proud of you!! 2. Malaysia sounds awesome! Esp. this bread dipped in multiple curries. A nice night with a cool cover band and various travellers sounds like a very enjoyable night. 3. Keep us updated on the differences between Thailand and Malaysia, esp. when it comes to religion. I'm fascinated. Enjoy Malaysia knowing that you're quite the accomplished law student! |
| 11th February 2009 Traci Haback | I hate you - From: Stick a fork in me because I'm jealous. I have been updating excel spreadsheets all day. I hope you enjoyed your coconut oil massage on the beach. That is all. |
| 11th February 2009 Jackie | food ah I love it - From: For Traci - I took your request literally - a rundown on the food sitch I loved this post as I love all Thai food and the descriptions brought back so many memories of trips we have had there. Thanks for the moments of pleasure on a dull wednesday afternoon in the UK |
| 11th February 2009 Shoshanaz | surfing - From: For Traci - I took your request literally - a rundown on the food sitch Disappointingly no. I read in lonely planet that there was surfing in Phuket at Kata Beach and did my best to go there, but got sidetracked when I picked up my two Chilean traveling companions. Phi Phi was like a bay, so very shallow and no real ability for waves (except of the tsunami variety) and Lanta had gentle waves but no more than 6 inches or so. I'll keep looking though! |
| 11th February 2009 Shoshanaz | - From: For Traci - I took your request literally - a rundown on the food sitch I'll definitely do my best to keep you better updated on what I'm eating. I heard from Santa Clara that I was accepted and now they won't stop stalking me. And my cold is thankfully much better, even though in Ko Lanta it decided to migrate for a day and be a chest cold, fun! And yup, the toast thing is me. It's just PLAIN, WHITE TOAST that I can't eat. And that sounds so stupid to me that I keep eating it and keep getting sick (3x now) so I'm really trying to avoid making that mistake again. |
| 10th February 2009 Dad | Surf's Up? - From: For Traci - I took your request literally - a rundown on the food sitch Any surf or surfers on those beautiful beaches? |
| 10th February 2009 Traci Haback | Thank you for this - From: For Traci - I took your request literally - a rundown on the food sitch I sincerely appreciated this post, the most interesting yet! These shakes sound delightful, as did the sweet and savory pineapple- yumm! The fish sounds good too, and the twice fried chicken. Thankfully I am eating McDonalds as I read this post or I would have drooled to death. Keep us updated on the food as you go, it helps me categorize your stops. Heard from any more schools? Have fun, it sounds like you are already, and feel better!' Also, I take it this "toast" thing is you and not specifically Asian toast? |
| 10th February 2009 Shoshanaz | A free ticket for me?? - From: The fact that I can't speak Spanish comes up all the time in Thailand Ahaha Micah mentioned that you had brought the dismal DC weather with you to LA, but it sounds like you had a fantastic time visiting everyone anyways. I'd love to get out and visit some time in May, you know if that spare ticket is just burning a hole in your pocket or something lol :). My clothes are holding up very well actually, although I wish I had brought more shorts. I had laundry done once in Phi Phi and am planning to hold out until Singapore before I do any more. Also since I've mainly been bumming around the beach all I've really worn is a bikini. Gosh it's a hard life here. |
| 9th February 2009 Traci Haback | Take me to the beach with youuuu - From: The fact that I can't speak Spanish comes up all the time in Thailand I want to go to the beach!! Tell us what you've been eating everywhere. I'm curious. |
| 9th February 2009 Mom | weather - From: The fact that I can't speak Spanish comes up all the time in Thailand I was cruelly misled about the LA weather, and so glad to hear it's warm by you. Also I'm wondering how your clothes are holding up because I packed very light and used all my clothes and was pretty close to burning them all by the end of four days! Other than that, a great trip--loved seeing Mom (Mama) and Micah and Erica and Carla and the Morties and Kent and other friends. Wish we all lived closer. Oh--and I took a bumping opportunity in Philadelphia and have a free ticket! |
| 9th February 2009 Shoshanaz | yessss - From: The fact that I can't speak Spanish comes up all the time in Thailand I love knowing that my travelblog is being read, it definitely makes me want to write more often. And I'm surprised you can't feel the heat from my skin in America (sounds sexy but I'm just that badly burned). If you subscribe to the blog you get an email when I update it. |
| 9th February 2009 toby | I am stalking your travel blog yay! - From: The fact that I can't speak Spanish comes up all the time in Thailand I am hoping that by reading this i not only get to keep up with your adventures but also absorb some of that warmth and sunshine through internet osmosis. The beach sound incredible...too bad about the monkeys,i hear they are stealthy beasts. |
| 6th February 2009 Dad | and you expect sympathy? - From: I'm in tropical paradise...with a cold Shoshi- sounds like you are having a great trip so far. It was 15 degrees in DC yesterday morning & I have a cold too. Do not expect a lot of sympathy ;-) |
| 6th February 2009 Traci | I'm Jealous - From: I'm in tropical paradise...with a cold Wow Shosh, that sounds amazing! Even the train ride sounds like such a worth while experience; especially seeing the juxtaposed poverty and modern convenience in the slums of bangkok. Enjoy the beach and your French friends...laissez les bons temps roulez and feel better! PS- it sounds like this whole "alone" thing hasn't been a problem at all for you, look at all your travelling friends! |
| 5th February 2009 micah | good times - From: Bangkok I'm not putting a whole lot of detail into this post because i made a really nice one the first time and the site didn't end up posting it :(. Anyway 1. Your trip sounds like crazy fun! 2. Thanks for Slam! If you visit we can watch it together. And 3. we had great weather until Mom showed up and dragged the East Coast doom and gloom with her. Bah. |
| 4th February 2009 Mom | Hi! - From: Seoul Thanks for the update. We knew Korea was cold! Hope everything is still going smoothly. I'm leaving for Calif. tomorrow. A little snow here today, looking fwd to the warm weather in LA. Love~ |
| 3rd February 2009 Miracle M Lewis | I hope all is well - From: Seoul I am glad to read you have made it there safely. I know the best is to come, keep us updated as much as possible, be safe and take care. |
| 3rd February 2009 Melanie | Glad you made it! - From: Seoul Keep us updated on your progress! Sounds like you are off to a fun start. :) |
| 2nd February 2009 Micah | MMMMMMM - From: Seoul Do they have a Coffee Bean or a ä< i? |
