| 15th June 2009 Aunt Kristine | - From: To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn I just can't believe you are almost on your way back to the USA. We still are the best country in the world. Your life in Korea was amazing and I can't believe you've been gone so long! What a fantastic experience to soak yourself into another culture so deeply. It sounds like you really took it all in and should feel really great about yourself for that. Anyone here would be proud to hire you with all of your extra experience and open-mindedness. You may just be surprised! Do you think you'll continue teaching? |
| 14th June 2009 mary | adam's mom - From: To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn Hi Michelle, you did it!!! I am sooo proud of you!! It seems you have matured alot in just 11 weeks. Not only in the language, but in everything. WOW is all I can say. I hope you have a safe trip home, get your cabin in a quiet, beautiful, place, and will be happy to come home to the USA!!! We've missed you!!! Love always Mary |
| 14th June 2009 anonymous | - From: To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn I'm in the same boat as you. Leaving Korea in 3 weeks and a really sad to give up the lifestyle here but at the same time, I know that I can't live this way forever. |
| 13th June 2009 ShelleLee | - From: To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn Thank you Jim (and Ann) It's been a pleasure to have a small following. I may not be done traveling quite yet, but all journeys must come to and end before the next one can begin. I look forward to whatever the future holds for me! |
| 13th June 2009 Jim Blanchard | A last goodby - From: To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn Have enjoyed your blog very much over the last year. Am sure that whatever you decide to do, you will excell in it. We were in Korea traveling twice in the past 20 years and learned to love the people and there culture. We grew as well since we accepted new way's that were forgin to us. Travel should be compulsary for Americans so we don't become so full of ourselves. Best of luck to you, Jim & Ann |
| 28th January 2009 ShelleLee | - From: A Short Story: The Medic Lift tickets here are somewhere between $50 and $100...depends on how long you want to ski (there are like 10 different combos you can pick from) The arm is a little better today...unfortunately there is no snow here, well not in Seoul anyhow! |
| 27th January 2009 UNDERWAY | A Short Story: The Medic - From: A Short Story: The Medic Just wondering, what does a day lift ticket cost in Korea? Here in Washington State at Stevens Pass Ski Resort it's $58.00. Hope your arm is feeling better. It's snowing here....yeah!!! |
| 27th January 2009 ShelleLee | - From: A Short Story: The Medic Thanks for the well-wishes. It wasn't too bad, especially since (as you noticed) I did have a great deal of candy to ease the pain. Glad you are enjoying the blogs! Have a great week |
| 27th January 2009 UNDERWAY | A Short Story: The Medic - From: A Short Story: The Medic Love that lower lip pout in your OWIE photo. Looks like your all set up tho with Costco size jelly beans and a sack of other candy.... wish you the best and a speedy recovery...enjoy your blogs..... Jim |
| 23rd January 2009 ShelleLee | - From: Heart and Seoul Ahh yes, I remember something about a fur coat :) I am sure that I will just hang out and pick up cute boys...that was kinda the 'real' plan. haha. Can't wait to get back and tell everyone how it was!! |
| 22nd January 2009 Aunt Kristine | - From: Heart and Seoul Hey Shelly- sounds like Korea is agreeing with you. What a fun adventure that you'll remember for the rest of your life! Everybody should ido t. I am still enjoying your funny blogs. Sorry I haven't written lately. I've been bogged down with work and memorizing my classes! Stay safe! Have fun skiing. You should have a blast. If anything, you can hang out in the lodge, sip hot cocoa and pick up cute guys(obviously I've had plenty of experience with that in my younger days). |
| 6th January 2009 ShelleLee | - From: Cheers Haha...I am so your daughter!!! Ice Cream for dinner is always good:) |
| 6th January 2009 Mom | Congratulations! - From: Cheers Good for you Michelle..... I would have an ice cream for dinner after running 10 yards! |
| 4th January 2009 UNDERWAY | Irate lady - From: Looking Back on Years Past Was interesting to read your tale of the irate lady yelling and screaming. I had the same experence twice while in Seoul. Once was in Nam-Da-Moon (sp) market and the other was inside a store while trying to buy a bar of soap. In both instances I was compleatly caught off guard by the intensity of the verbal attack. I always wonderd if maby these ladys had lost a loved one in the Korean war and were somehow taking it out on me personally as I am an American male. I wonder if others have had this experence. Keep up with the great writting and photos. Best of the new year to you, Jim in Leavenworth, Washington, USA |
| 11th December 2008 ShelleLee | - From: With Visions of Sugarplums... Yea, we will be too busy admiring our new ski boots or discussing our de riguer snowsuits....if I am the one to fall, then I will also be taking you with me :) |
| 10th December 2008 Monica | - From: With Visions of Sugarplums... Ha, now think of that times 20 for when we ski in Colorado. One of us is gonna fall off that chair lift. I feel it. If it's me, I'm taking you down with me! |
| 10th December 2008 Atomicgirl72 | I hate them too - From: In Korea Hey, I taught in Japan and we had collective planning. Now Im a teacher in the US and I hate nothing more than lesson planning. I mean, I plan, get new ideas, make the necessary copies and preparations, but I hate writing it all down. It takes up too much time. :( |
| 9th December 2008 ShelleLee | - From: With Visions of Sugarplums... hahaha...I KNEW you'd remember us laying in the middle of the ice crying because we were laughing sooo hard!!! |
| 9th December 2008 Monica | Ice Skating?!? - From: With Visions of Sugarplums... Oh I definitely recall our "let's learn to ice skate!" date. Ha. I especially remember when you fell flat on your face, I stopped to laugh at you (in a loving way of course), and then I fell flat on my back. And then we laid on the ice while the little 5 year olds did triple sow-cows around us (totally not how you spell that but you get the point...). |
| 7th December 2008 ShelleLee | - From: On the bus...to Apgujeong Yay package!!! And it seriously does not smell that bad over here (and believe me if it did I would surely be the first one to say something...I have Debbie's nose for those things) |
| 5th December 2008 Kristine | Mishelly!! - From: On the bus...to Apgujeong Hey, I just wanted you to know that I sent you a package yesterday and the post office assured me that you would have it in about a week. So look next week around Thurs. or Fri. I hope you enjoy it. It was great talking and seeing you on Thanksgiving! You look great and seem healthy. Our studio Yoga instructor visisted Seoul a while back and said that it was so smelly. Is that true. She said that the food was awful and the whole city smelled of Kim Chi and rotting fish. I guess you have gotten used to it of something because you never mentioned that! She did mention that everything is cheap, cheap, cheap! Keep having fun!! Love, Aunt Kristine |
| 21st November 2008 Stephen | - From: A quick rant I have a story that might make you feel better.... So i was riding my bike home from class last week, and it had just got done raining. I was pretty excited since it stopped raining for the journey back home and on my way home i was avoiding the puddles as to try and stay dry. Well as i crossed Mission and rode up on the sidewalk by payless shoes a bus decided to come flying by me running through a puddle. Now i know what you're thinking, there is no possible way water can shoot up that high and get me wet...Well you're wrong! A huge wall of water shot up and SOAKED me in front of tons of traffic i must add. So consider yourself lucky that you were not soaking wet trying to hail a cab. Hope everything else is well...Byeeee |
| 20th November 2008 Mary (Adam's mom) | Rant and Rave - From: A quick rant Hi my dear sweetie!!! That's just TERRIBLE!!! I hope that the Americans over here aren't that bad.I've run across some pretty miserable people before and it is so sad. It's sad because you think "How can they be like that?" Or "What'd I do to deserve this??!!" Well Michelle, I did think of something. Next time you're waiting for a cab, have a big white or whatever color of construction paper and on it have the address written on it in big letters. Then on the bottom put I GIVE $5.00 TIPS. :) I was telling Steve about your excursion and he starts singing THE DOORS. The song is called THE END. Kind of goes Come on Baby Take a Chance With Us. You may have heard it. Just hope we can give you a smile. Love you much. Keep us posted ok? Mary |
| 17th November 2008 Mary (Adam's mom) | your blog is great - From: And now back to our regularly scheduled program... Hi Michelle, it just seems you get better and better with your blog. The video and the pictures are great. The kids look so sweet. But then we know how kids can really be huh? Just playing. Wow, couldn't believe how serious the tests are over there. I think you're doing a great job at teaching...Who would've thought the idea of the peanuts??? Keep up the great work. I'm really proud of you. Trying to stay warm in Ohio. Take care and Much love Mary |
| 10th November 2008 Heinz | Spitting - From: A Weekend at the Race That indoor spitting gentleman could be of a different nationality that is particularly renowned for.....well, spitting, even here in Korea: Many Gastarbeiters come to the races during weekend for inexpensive entertainment, you know. Many Korean ajoshis do spit, yeah, but they generally avoid being too blase about it for the fear of fines, is my observation. |
| 9th November 2008 Mary (Adam's mom) | Obama - From: A Weekend at the Race Hi Michelle, just read all the fun things you've been doing. That was really funny how the people would say Obama for hello. :) I think he's going to make a good president. I like your brown hair. Looks really nice. Of course you look good as a blonde too. Glad to hear you won $16.00 bucks! I know that's not a whole lot, but it's exciting. It's funny how you about gagged with the spitting on the floor. You need to try it at least once!! Ha Ha Love you & take care!! Keep the travel blogs coming ok? |
| 9th November 2008 Monica | HA - From: A Weekend at the Race That picture is hysterical! I thought it was just a superstition that Koreans had; I didn't realize that they took it seriously enough to put warning labels on appliances! Wow. They must think that American's are superhuman or something, because I sleep with a fan pointed on me while I sleep all the time. Oh, and Nine West has gone to crap. Several friends and I are boycotting them. They just fall apart (as you seem to have experienced...). Miss you! xoxo |
| 4th November 2008 Ramsy | - From: The List Hey Michelle, My first look at your blog. I'm looking forward to you coming back and getting the details to some of the things that you mention but don't elaborate on :) BTW we almost won a game last Friday (Halloween) 21-19 loss to Lee County. Ramsy |

| 20th October 2008 Mary (Adam's mom) | the list - From: The List Hi Michelle, the list is really interesting. I would love to visit Korea. I like the way you explained the people and their customs and esp. their foods. You actually made me hungry :) I hope all is good. I bet you're really staying in shape with all the hiking you do and all the healthy food you're eating. I do hope you can find some turkey for next month. Maybe I can send you a frozen Stouffer's???? Ha Ha Much love and God Bless You Take care Mary |
| 18th October 2008 Aunt Kristine | hey girl - From: Odds and Ends Hi Michelle' As always, love reading your blog. It sounds like you're doing just great. Monica is right, you should do culinary school in CO. Maybe you can whip up some rattlesnake -tastes like chicken, really, I've had it! I know your mom and the rest of us would like you to be closer. Korea is just a wee bit too far! |
| 16th October 2008 Mary (Adam's mom) | Mary saying hi - From: Odds and Ends Hi Michelle, I love the picture you sent and all the things you said about school. I hope you're not there for 2 years though. So you know Korean. That's awesome!! I do keep you and Adam in my prayers everyday. I did get to see him in Texas. He just keeps getting better looking every day. I have some pics I need to send you. Thanks for staying in touch. Much love always Mary |
| 16th October 2008 Monica | AHAHA - From: Odds and Ends HAHA I totally love that picture. Please buy me something made by Jesus. And please don't stay over there another year. You are needed back in the US. The holidays just won't be the same. And you SAID YOU ARE MOVING TO DENVER. That is all. Don't make me whine. Go to culinary school in CO. You can then cook exotic meats such as buffalo and elk in restaurants that have animal heads on the walls. That seems to be the trend out there ;) |
| 20th September 2008 Darlene | Hi, Shelly - From: Back to Work Hey, Shelly - This is the first time I looked on your blog. I went back to the very beginning entry and worked my way up. How exciting you make it sound. I especially liked the one about the student that laughs and slides off his chair. Glad to hear you're acclimating to your surroundings. Hope things go well the rest of your time there and that you figure out how to work the washing machine. I'm sure your mom would not like to have a years worth of laundry to do when you come back to the States! Take Care - love Aunt Darlene. |
| 15th September 2008 Aunt Kristine | hey - From: Back to Work Hey those stacked stones look just like the stacked stones in Sedona Arizona where they do that for the gods. I think your're right!! My friend was just there and took pictures of them - weird! |
| 15th September 2008 Aunt Kristine | silly - From: Back to Work Loved your latest!! I want to go to Korea! It sounds like so much fun!! |
| 19th August 2008 Kelly | WOW! - From: A Walking Tour of Seoul Chelle, Great pictures...I actually just got really excited!! Looking forward to meeting you...and perhaps check out the popular Baskin Robbins place and Starbucks! |
| 6th August 2008 Aunt Kristine | Hey!! - From: More Random Tidbits Michelle, I love your blog. I am planning to read it as you post it because you write just like you talk and it is hilarious. I think you should publish this, it would be a great fun book for people to read! Keep updating... |
| 14th July 2008 ShelleLee | - From: More Random Tidbits Thanks for the tips. I hit up Hungdae my first weekend here, but was a little overwhelmed with everything to notice the culture. I will put both of those places on my list to visit! |
| 13th July 2008 A Korean | - From: More Random Tidbits Interesting generalzaions you gave. Actually, they are pretty accurate depictions of the lower middle to the low class of Koreans, with whom many Hagwon teachers seem to have contact. I don't think the couple look is the thing for hipper Koreans, though. You should check Chong-dam or Hongdae when you have time. Totally different cultures. More snobbish, at least. |
| 11th July 2008 Monica | - From: Pictures Anyone :) Cute apartment!! Glad things are going well :) Miss you DEER! |
| 2nd July 2008 Chris | Thanks for the input - From: A week under my belt Hi Michelle, So far so good. I've been doing a lot of research on blogging in Korea by teachers of English from the States. I plan on leaving New York to go to Seoul to teach at the end of August and am interested in finding out as much as I can about the city life and about teaching in Korea. I might be signing with a company called ECC YBM Sisa. If you wouldn't mind, could you tell me what kind of contract you have. I've seen many different kinds and want to find the best through word of mouth. Take Care and good luck! Chris |
| 27th June 2008 Jacob | - From: In Korea YOU hate LESSON PLANNING?!? Nooo! |
| 25th June 2008 Marion | Found your site - From: Address We were glad to hear that you arrived safe and sound. I am tech challenged so it took several attempts to find your site again. I will definitely keep up with your blog. As I told you, you have a great responsibility because your adventure there is for both of us and I expect to have a wonderful time. |
