ShaunandLiz - Liz Leffert and Shaun Murphy

Liz Leffert and Shaun Murphy Hello Everyone. We're getting ready to depart on New Year's Eve for a seven month tour of South America, covering eight different countries. This blog was set up to keep you all updated on where we are in the world. We don't know what we're in for, but we'll hopefully have plenty of stories to share with our friends and family. Many of you know this has been a dream of ours for a long time, and at last it's time to live it.

See you soon,
Shaun and Liz

New Crew The next leg of the trip started way back on the 22nd of May. We had three friends staying on with us, Jan, Mark, and Steph, but it was going to be a full truck and there were fourteen new faces joining us. There was Chris and Rich, the essex boys, Gavin and Michelle, a couple from New Zealand, Mark V., another Kiwi by way of England, Astrid and Simon, a German Couple, Seren and Neil, a couple also from Essex, and along with them is Emma. Then we have Claire from England, and Fran, the Oxford boy, Paul, [View Full Entry]

What Now? After we left our truck Carmen in Quito we had a few weeks off to fend for ourselves before the next trip with Dragoman began. The break is built in so that people who want to visit the Galapagos Islands can make their own arrangements. We knew we might never get back to this corner of the earth, so we didn't want to let the opportunity pass by. We didn't have anything booked, but found it easy to get a last minute deal on a boat that was leaving in a few days. We set off from the airport [View Full Entry]

Caribbean Coast We finished our last trip in Caracas and started the next one early the next morning, with two new passengers, Simon from Wales, and Jeanine from the Netherlands. Our group is down to eleven, so there is plenty of room on the truck as we head to our first stop at Puerto Colombia on the Caribbean Coast. We had two days in this relaxed seaside town. On the first night there, we celebrated Digga's brother Sean's birthday. As per the drago tradition, Sean had his cake smashed in his face, and he got it worse than I’ve seen so [View Full Entry]

We've fallen behind again. Bear with us as we try to get caught up. We´re starting this blog way back on the 25th of March. We were in Manaus and ready for the next leg that would take us into Venezuela with the new group. There are some familiar faces for Digga in this lot. His brother Sean and his fiance Emma that Dig had yet to meet are joining us along with two of his mates, Owen and Rob. Santa Elena A long drive and a bush camp from Manaus and we were headed to the Venezuelan border. We [View Full Entry]

Amazon and the Heart of Brazil After the madness of Carnival we are ready to hop back on the truck and hit the road. On this trip we head north through the center of Brazil and finish in the state of Amazonas in the river city of Manaus. Our truck Carmen is now filled with new faces. Digga has stayed to guide us but we have a new driver, Bob. So with our new crew and soon to be friends we head for our first stop Ouro Preto “Black Gold”. The terrace of our hostel had a great view of the [View Full Entry]

We´ve entered a new country and we´re speaking a new language. It was a bit of a shock going from communicating rather comfortably in Spanish to having very few words available to you. Our Portuguese is improving slowly and our sign language even faster. We said goodbye to many of our truckmates in Rio, but we made a lot of good memories in Brazil. Iguaçu We entered Brazil at Foz do Iguaçu to visit the Brazilian side of the famous falls. We also took the opportunity to slip into Paraguay for the day as the three countries are very close. There [View Full Entry]

So we´re a bit behind in getting the blog sent out to you all. On our journey from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires we were far from civilization for many days and when we finally reached the city we were busy making the most of it. We´ll try to get you caught up quick, so here goes....... To The End of the World We last left off in Torres Del Paine from where we now continue south to Ushuaia or "the end of the world", as they say. On our way, we crossed the Straits of Magellan and entered Tierra del Fuego. [View Full Entry]

Torres Del Paine Our first night in Torres Del Paine National Park, we stayed with all our Dragoman friends at a site on Lake Pehoe. It was rainy and windy, so we erected the cook tent which Digga had been raving about. My(Liz) cook group made an excellent curry thanks to the one real cook in our group, Huw. We sat around the fire and Huw and Laura played guitar and sang. Unfortunately during the night a lot of tents flooded and people got pretty wet. Thankfully Shaun is a champion at picking the right spot to pitch, so we stayed [View Full Entry]

In Patagonia When we last left off we were leaving Bariloche and heading into Patagonia, bound for El Chalten. It was two twelve hour days driving through more nothing than you´ve ever seen in your life. We did see some wildlife, many rheas(they´re like emus), Guanacos(llama-like), rabbits, and of course sheep. The thing we´ll remember most is the wind so strong it could knock you off your feet. We also won´t forget a funny incident on the truck where what we thought was an excessive amount of road dust landing on Digga turned out to be Nestle Quik showering down on [View Full Entry]

This might be a long entry as we haven´t been able to write in a week. The times we´ve had internet access we´ve been too busy or too tired to write. We´ve also experienced a lot in a week and a half, so we´ll give you the highlights. Meeting Dragoman Our adventure begins in Santiago where we met our group and were introduced to the truck, "Carmen". Our fearless leader is an Aussie named Digga. He doesn´t speak hardly a lick of spanish, but he does a great job keeping things running as smooth as they can and getting us off [View Full Entry]
