As we had gone to bed so early, we both woke up at about 6am (jetlag for you.) We used this productively to do a bit more reading and decided that as we both wanted to see a bit of Cultural Thailand, we would head up North to Chang Mai. Well. it wasn't the best night sleep both of us has ever had but think it was due to the excitement and anticipation of finally being here. A guy called Ville who worked in Santorini with me this summer is working in Bangkok for My Travel Finland (lucky beggar) so I managed to get in touch with him and we arrange to meet for lunch today on the famous Khosan Road - will be nice to get some info from someone who lives here. After packing up and checking out of the hostel, we head to the post office to box up and send our excess baggage home. Feeling alot lighter (well 3 1/2 kilo's to be exact) we have some brunch at Subway then take the airport shuttle from the town, taking in the last sights before we leave! We check in, pay our departure tax (how rude, making you pay for something you don't want to do!) and then a quick nosey around the shops before boarding the plane. Oh my goodness I cannot believe we leave for Thailand tomorrow - eeekkkkkkkkkk! Am excited but aprehensive aswell - it's all going to be so different! Therefore it's quite a boring (but busy) day for us today. We take Lucy back to the Rental Company (boo - we'kk miss you lucy) then back into the city where after buying 25 disks, we start the mammoth task of updating our blogs, saving our pictures to discs and then copying the discs ready to post a copy home. We woke to a stinky room (thanks to us - he he!) and after Diane informing me she had the worst night's sleep ever to the squeakest bed i the world (it was true that she couldn't even breath without it squeaking) and plus feeling like we hadn't really bonded with our room mates (they kept sighing when we were reading in our room last night - it was only 10.30pm for heavens sake!) we decided to splash out and upgrade to a twin room rather than a dorm. Oh my gosh this has got to be the most amazing day ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We got to the Dolphin centre for 8.30am and after being kitted with sexy wetsuits we watched a short briefing video on the Dolphins. They tell you that you are entering their world so it's more about you entertaining them to get them close to you and interact, rather than them entertaining you - very true! They give you some tips on how you can try and get them interested such as singing underwater and trying to act 'Dolphin like' - all sounds very amusing in the classroom [View Full Entry]

After a restful night, we woke and made our way to the Horse Stables. The map sais that to get to the stables we had to drive through 2 fords then go over a bridge, we didn't realise until we got there that a ford was actually a dip of water! At first we didn't think we would be able to drive through it, but after conducting some experiments with a few rocks and a large stick, we decided to try and go for it - and good ole Lucy made us proud by driving straight through them with no water [View Full Entry]

Today we are making our way further up the country and inland to Hamner Springs. Di's rough guess of a 2 hour drive turned out to be 4 1/2 hours (bit further than she thought) but we arrived at about 4pm and finally found a Hostel. It was pretty wierd as the town seemed quite busy and 2 of the other places we went to were full. Yeah - today we go and see penguins! After a really short drive of only 2 hours (will think nothing of driving in England now) we arrived at a funky hostel called Swaggers Backpackers. At 11am we were the first to arrive and so the owner (a wacky lady called Agra) showed us around and let us chose our own beds! It looked like Agra had just converted her home into a hostel (with a private section for her and her 16 year old son) but it was full of old comfy couches and chairs, plus lots of bric-a-brac, really homely [View Full Entry]

On bringing my luggage to the hostel last night, I discovered that I couldn't find the keys to my padlocks (oh no!) So after searching aimlessly for about 30 mins I had to admit defeat and go and ask the man on the check in desk to break into my case for me (maybe I should get combination padlocks in the future). Therefore after the excitment of breaking into my own bag and having breakie, we hit the info centre to get advice on all the freebie things to do (our suspicions that Information Centre's are told to try and sell [View Full Entry]
